Chapter 162: The Will of the Qilin
The raid from the Pioneer Corps was unstoppable, and the security guards, who had barely held off the attack from the Demon Clan, were now completely relaxed, almost offering no resistance as they were each knocked to the ground. Two bald, burly men in military greatcoats charged at Daniu and Erhu, who fired their guns repeatedly while retreating.
However, the two bald men in greatcoats seemed to have no sense of pain and, despite being riddled with bullet holes like a beehive, didn't utter a sound. They were merely kept at bay by the impact of the gunfire. The exposed flesh beneath the tattered clothing of these strong men was pale as if they had been dead for days. Both guards were petrified. How could dead people still walk around?
"Boss, something bad is happening, they..."
With a flash of Sword Qi, a figure passed directly between the two, causing Daniu's words to abruptly cut off. Erhu also remained motionless, still in the act of firing his gun. Moments later, both their throats spurted out a jet of blood before they collapsed listlessly.
Liu Xing looked at the blood-dripping Longsword in his hand. This treasured sword, forged from Patterned Steel, was indeed as sharp as advertised on the website.
Turning around to glance at the two bodies on the ground, a trace of pity flickered in his eyes but vanished immediately. "It's either you or me, sorry guys," he muttered to himself, before turning back to Zhang Yaoyang. "What should we do now, team leader?"
Zhang Yaoyang said, "We've taken care of our side. Now it all depends on what's happening inside." After speaking, he added, "Call everyone out; it's time everyone understood what's going on."
Dugu Han grabbed the walkie-talkie, looking at the people in the room with uncertainty. Although Daniu had not finished speaking, it put him on alert.
"Boss, we've secured the Teleportation Portal. Should we destroy it now?" Yan Zhong suddenly asked. Dugu Han glanced at Yan Zhong's screen, which showed the five of them standing alone amidst a sea of Demon Clan corpses and some members of the Pioneer Corps. However, it seemed that their numbers were significantly reduced.
He immediately realized that he had sent some of the Pioneer Corps offline to aid the outside security team. Even if those security guards were dead, the members of the Pioneer Corps shouldn't have all been taken out. A chilling thought struck him – what if it was the Pioneer Corps members causing trouble?
"Daniu, Erhu, are you still there?" He called out twice, but no one responded, escalating his panic.
"Damn, what exactly happened outside?"
"Perhaps I can answer that question," Xiao Buli said casually, pacing back and forth, the Ethereal Sword subtly summoned into his hand.
The two security guards instinctively raised their pistols but hesitated, and in that moment of hesitation, Xiao Buli abruptly thrust the sword into the electrical power strip on the floor.
With a couple of crackling sounds, the power strip exploded in a burst of sparks, but strangely, the computer screens remained on.
Xiao Buli suddenly realized, "Right, such a big company would definitely install relay switches or other safety measures in each computer; they can't risk people getting trapped in the game if the power went out," he thought to himself.
"What the hell are you doing!" Dugu Han hadn't comprehended the situation yet and instinctively shouted in alarm when he saw Xiao Buli's actions, but Yan Zhong suddenly stood up, his voice stern, "Kill him!"
Finally snapping to their senses, the bodyguards let off a barrage of gunfire, yet ripples appeared around Xiao Buli's body, revealing the Ethereal Armor that blocked the shots.
"Quick, log out of the game!" Yan Zhong shouted at the others. "It won't work, you can't log out during combat!" Zhang Biao yelled back.
"Then kill him quickly," Yan Zhong ordered coldly. Hearing this, the members of the Qilin Group stood up, apparently ready to focus-fire and take out Xiao Buli in one swift move. Xiao Buli thought to himself, it's now or never!
Sunfire Sword Qi—Ultimate Skills: Wind Rolls The Scattered Clouds! Charging straight at the five members of the Qilin Group, a whirlwind of flames spiraled out, its formidable force forcing the Qilin members to retreat rapidly to dodge his ferocious attack. But the computers were not so lucky, and in an instant, they were slashed into a heap of sparking scrap metal.
As they lost control of their in-game characters, the Qilin Group was enraged. "I'm going to kill you!" The burly man named Zhang Biao threw a heavy punch glowing with a cold metallic sheen; it was clear it carried some kind of special effect.
Xiao Buli was about to use his Shadow Clone to confuse his attacker, but Zhang Biao suddenly sped up, creating an afterimage that reached him before he could create any clones and struck him with a punch. Xiao Buli hastily raised his sword to block, but with a crack, the Ethereal Sword was shattered into two pieces.
Xiao Buli stumbled backward but before he could recover, the one named Wang Lei suddenly unleashed a dazzling lightning bolt from his hand, blasting Xiao Buli away and slamming him into a wall where he slumped to the ground.
Wang Lei's lightning was far more formidable than his Palm Thunder; Xiao Buli felt as if he'd been struck by high-voltage electricity, causing a nauseating pressure in his chest and pain throughout his body. He nearly spat out blood, unsure of the attack's full force. Thankfully, the Ethereal Armor absorbed some of the damage, otherwise, he might have been instantly killed.
Just as he was about to stand up, the female assassin named Dian Lan flipped through the air and landed right in front of him; her right leg lifted up and her high-heeled right foot pinned his sword-wielding wrist against the wall while the dagger in her hand aimed straight for his throat, poised to stab.
"If you don't want to live, go ahead and make your move," Xiao Buli said with difficulty, thinking to himself that this Qilin Group bunch truly was psychotic, a clear difference between pay-to-win warriors and free players. If they really fought head-on, even if he gathered all the Pioneer Corps members, they might not stand a chance against them.
Dian Lan, holding the dagger in her hand, paused momentarily, turning around as if seeking confirmation from Yan Zhong with a glance.
"Kill him, what are you waiting for? Just kill him!" roared Dugu Han viciously, yet Dian Lan still didn't make a move, continuing to wait for Yan Zhong's response.
Yan Zhong's face darkened as he stepped forward to Xiao Buli, "Xiao Buli, eh? Tell me, what makes you think I would spare your life?"
Xiao Buli, sensing an opening for dialogue, calmly said, "If I die, your characters in the game won't survive either. The Pioneer Corps is right next to you. No matter how good your gear or how high your health points are, if you can't use them, you're all just sitting ducks. When that happens, everyone will disband, but guess what, there's a good chance someone will survive, and that's your boss.
Heh, perhaps that's the outcome you hope for, but I highly doubt it. Isn't that right?"
Not a trace of expression appeared on Yan Zhong's face, but he seemed to disagree with Xiao Buli's words.
Xiao Buli continued to speak on his own terms. There's a second option, "You just leave now; there are computers still available in the newbies' room. You can log into your characters there, and then log out. But there are many from the Demon Clan on the way, so estimating a round trip would take about half an hour.
By that time, the police are probably going to storm in, and your boss is likely to be dead. So, my suggestion would be to get out as soon as you log off. After all, I assume you don't want to become wanted criminals."
"What if I want to take the boss with us?" asked Yan Zhong, as if attempting a final effort.
"Then none of you will get away. Even if you take my life as a threat, it won't work. Those outside all have grudges against Dugu Han and won't hesitate to die with him if they must. That means your characters will also certainly die," Xiao Buli retorted.
"What if we leave and then you go back on your word?"
Xiao Buli answered, "Then you can come back and kill us, of course. After all, death in the game takes at least a few hours to take effect in reality, which gives you enough time to return and take my life. But that's unlikely to happen, our target is Dugu Han; we don't plan to make more powerful enemies."
Dugu Han listened with increasing dissatisfaction, "Don't listen to him! They won't let you go! Quickly kill him and we'll fight our way out together. My boss knows the Resurrection Technique; even if you die, he can bring you back to life."
"If that's the case, then why don't you just let us kill you and have your boss resurrect you?" Xiao Buli sneered, extinguishing Dugu Han's last glimmer of struggle.
A resolute flicker crossed Dugu Han's eyes as he suddenly drew his katana and slashed at Xiao Buli. Yet, the blade halted in mid-air as if it had encountered an invisible barrier or as if an invisible hand had grabbed his arm; Yan Zhong held out his hand, keeping Dugu Han from completing the strike no matter how hard he tried.
"I don't mind if you kill him, but let's wait until we've left to do it," Yan Zhong said before gesturing to Dian Lan with a meaningful look. The female assassin leapt off Xiao Buli's body, but as she did, her dagger casually left a shallow cut on his neck.
She licked the blood off her dagger with her tongue in a threatening manner and backed away with a cold laugh.
"Hey, you guys aren't seriously listening to him, are you? Quickly kill him!" Dugu Han continued to shout, but no one heeded his calls. It seemed like the Qilin Group, just like the others, had developed its own system and will, rendering Dugu Han's words less effective than Yan Zhong's.
"Sorry, boss, even though you've given us a lot, all of it is meaningless without a life to enjoy it, especially after obtaining such incredible power. Don't you think it would be a waste for us to just give it up like this?" Yan Zhong turned back and addressed Dugu Han with a sincere tone.
Dugu Han couldn't believe his ears, "What? Are you ingrates planning a rebellion? Don't forget who gave you everything you have now."
"We won't forget, don't worry, boss. In the future, we'll definitely avenge you. Once things have settled down, we'll find a way to kill that guy," they reassured him.
As he said this, Yan Zhong gave Xiao Buli a cold look, and Xiao Buli understood all too well from his eyes that he wasn't just talking idly. (To be continued.
