Chapter 7: A Desperate Move
I needed answers, and I needed them quickly. My mind was racing with thoughts of Tila and her confidence about Phillip. I couldn't let her win this time, and the only way to stop her was to make sure she didn't get what she wanted. And Phillip,he was the key. I couldn't let him fall into Tila's hands. He had always been the one she wanted, the one she thought she could claim without question.
That's when I remembered Sarah. She had always been there for me, a loyal friend who never judged. And, as it turned out, she was also Phillip's cousin. This was my chance to find out more about him—how to make sure Tila didn't stand a chance.
I grabbed my phone and called her, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice. "Sarah, I need to talk to you. Can I come over?"
Her voice was instantly warm and reassuring. "Of course, Faye. You know you're always welcome here. Come by anytime."
I didn't waste any time. I grabbed my bag and hurried over to her apartment, my heart pounding with the thought of what I was about to do. This wasn't going to be easy. But if anyone could help me, it was Sarah.
When I arrived, Sarah greeted me with a warm hug. "What's going on, Faye? You sound serious."
"I am," I replied, my voice low. "I need your help. I need to know how to get Phillip."
Sarah raised an eyebrow, clearly taken aback by my bluntness. "Phillip? You mean the second son of the Becker Group?"
I nodded, sitting down on the couch. "Yes. I know it sounds crazy, but I need him. And I need to make sure Tila doesn't get him. She thinks she can have everything, but not this time. I'm going to make sure she loses."
Sarah studied me for a moment, her brow furrowed in thought. "Faye, I get it. I really do. But you need to understand, it's not going to be easy to just 'get' Phillip. He's not the type to fall for just anyone, especially not someone who's... well, like this."
I frowned, not liking the sound of that. "What do you mean, 'like this'?"
Sarah sighed, leaning back against the couch. "It's complicated. Phillip isn't just some guy who can be won over by a pretty face. He's not swayed by superficial things, and he definitely doesn't go for people who are just trying to play games. He's smart, Faye. Really smart. And he's been through a lot."
I felt a wave of frustration rise in me. "But Tila... she thinks she can have him so easily. She's been after him for years. I can't just sit back and let her win. I want him for myself."
Sarah's eyes softened as she reached out and placed a hand on mine. "I know you do, Faye. But you're not going to win him over just by wanting him. Phillip has standards. He doesn't like people who are fake or manipulative. He sees through that."
I clenched my jaw, trying to swallow the frustration building up inside me. "Then what am I supposed to do? Just give up? Let her have him?"
Sarah shook her head, her expression serious. "No, I'm not saying you should give up. But you need to be careful. Phillip values authenticity. He doesn't want someone pretending to be something they're not just to get his attention. If you want a chance with him, you need to show him who you really are. Be honest, be genuine. You can't play games with him.
Her words stung more than I expected. "I don't know how to be honest with him. Not when Tila is always in the way, acting like she owns him."
Sarah leaned forward, her gaze steady. "I get that, but trust me, Faye. Phillip isn't the type to fall for someone just because they're trying to outdo another person. He doesn't want to be a prize in a competition. If you want to get his attention, you need to do it for the right reasons. Not to win a game, but because you actually care about him."
I let her words sink in, feeling both a sense of doubt and understanding. "I don't know if I can do that. I've spent so much time thinking about how to beat Tila. I've forgotten what it feels like to just be... me."
I sat back, my mind racing with everything Sarah had said. It wasn't just about winning. It was about being real, about showing Phillip who I truly was. That was the key to getting him—not pretending to be someone I wasn't, but being the best version of myself.
"But what if Tila doesn't give up? What if she's too much for me to handle?"
Sarah chuckled softly. "You're stronger than you think, Faye. You've been through a lo
t. If anyone can handle Tila, it's you.
