Chapter 10: Gathering Intel

The air was tense as Jin Soo and Kira stood among the remnants of the destroyed trees. The sight of the wreckage fueled a fire inside him. He had to act, but first, he needed to gather more information.

"Let's split up for a bit," Jin Soo suggested, scanning the area. "I'll check out the logging site. You see if you can find any creatures nearby who might know what's going on."

Kira nodded, fur bristling in agreement, eager to take on the task. "Be careful," it urged. Jin Soo shot a confident nod and set off toward the logging site.

As he moved closer, he stayed low, using the cover of darkness to stay hidden. The sounds of machinery echoed in the distance—a constant, low rumble that made his heart race. He approached cautiously, peeking through the brush.

What he saw made his stomach turn: thick tree trunks lay in disarray, and workers were milling about, talking loudly and laughing, oblivious to the destruction surrounding them. They were marking trees for cutting, mapping out their next moves.

Jin Soo pulled out one of the stones, feeling its weight in his palm. He had to know more. He took a deep breath and focused on channeling his intent. He needed clarity, and he needed to understand their plans.

As he observed, he overheard snippets of conversation. "We'll clear this whole section by the end of the week," one of the workers said. "The boss wants that new road built ASAP."

"Yeah," another replied. "But we're ruffling up the wildlife. They won't be happy about that." Their laughter was harsh and dismissive.

Jin Soo clenched the stone tighter. "They have no idea what they're messing with," he muttered to himself. He needed to get word back to the badger and Kira.

Suddenly, a flash of movement caught his eye. A sleek fox darted between the trees, then paused, looking right at Jin Soo. Its eyes were sharp and intelligent, and it seemed to understand the weight of the situation.

"Hey!" Jin Soo called quietly, beckoning the fox to come closer. "I need your help."

The fox hesitated but then crept toward him. "You're not one of them," it said in a low voice, sniffing the air. "What do you want?"

"I'm trying to stop this logging. Do you know what's really going on? How many are working here?"

The fox tilted its head. "There are always more than you think. They're here to destroy, and they don't care about the forest or its creatures. We need to fight back."

Jin Soo felt a surge of adrenaline. "I have stones that can help protect the forest. Can you gather other animals to stand against them?"

"I can try," the fox replied, its voice firm. "But we need more than just numbers. We need strategy."

"Right," Jin Soo nodded, knowing there wasn't much time. "We need to set a plan in motion. Can you find the animals that can help, the ones who know this place well?"

"Consider it done," the fox said, eyes shining with determination. "Meet me back here at dawn. We'll need a solid plan."

Jin Soo agreed, and they parted ways as he stealthily made his way back to Kira. He met up with the creature, who had succeeded in gathering some intel of its own from the forest's inhabitants.

"They're scared," Kira said, eyes wide with concern. "Some of them want to fight, but others think it's hopeless."

"They're wrong," Jin Soo said, fire in his eyes. "We just need to show them that we can take a stand. I found out they're planning to clear more trees by the end of the week. We don't have much time."

Kira nodded, and together they headed back to the clearing where they had met the badger. As they arrived, the badger was already waiting, looking intently at them.

"Well? What did you find?" it asked, a hint of urgency in its voice.

"Bad news," Jin Soo said bluntly. "They're cutting down trees fast. We need to act now."

The badger's expression hardened. "You're right. It's time to rally the troops. We need everyone on board."

"The fox is gathering support," Jin Soo said. "It's meeting us at dawn. We need a solid plan if we're going to confront these loggers."

"Good," the badger replied. "We'll need to hit them hard and fast before they realize we're coming. This is about more than just trees; it's about survival. If we lose, it won't just be the forest that suffers."

Jin Soo felt the weight of those words settle on him. This wasn't just a fight for the trees; it was a fight for the future of every creature in the forest.

"Let's make sure everyone knows what's at stake," he said, resolve tightening in his chest. "We'll meet at dawn, ready to fight."

With that, they made their way back through the darkening forest, each step heavy with determination. He wouldn't back down. Tomorrow, they would not just protect their home—they would reclaim it.
