Chapter 333: Chapter 329: The Wild Hounds (Part 1)

Anningdao was a religious organization within the Empire. Thanks to this church, Jolok City, where it was headquartered, had become one of the few relatively peaceful cities in the otherwise dark and corrupt Empire.

The church's influence had grown significantly, extending to several surrounding cities. The words of the Anningdao leader carried more weight than those of the local governors. Though the church preached benevolence, the Empire viewed it as a potential threat. Prime Minister Honest had long embedded spies within the church. One such spy, now second only to the church leader, had recently requested military support, planning to seize control during the upcoming Creation Festival. It was a testament to Honest's cunning.

The mission involved not just the Jaegers but also the Rakshasa Demons from the Imperial Fist Temple. With Shura absent and Daniel Davis, bored and intrigued, agreeing to join, the mission was set to begin.

Daniel had no particular interest in Anningdao or the spy, Borik. However, he was curious about the church's leader, a figure shrouded in mystery and intrigue. The leader of Anningdao was not entirely human but a hybrid between a human and a Danger Beast. This unusual origin granted them the rare powers of healing and prophecy, abilities that had greatly bolstered the church's following.

Such a hybrid was a taboo, a forbidden existence. Yet, Daniel was fascinated. While not many hybrids existed, those that did were often born with physical traits that set them apart—extra limbs, multiple ears, or other deformities. The Anningdao leader, however, retained a completely human appearance, a rarity that made them a prime subject for Daniel's research.

Hybrids like the Anningdao leader often faced tragic fates. Even the head of the Oberg, Merlad, had once owned a hybrid servant, a woman with four arms and incredible strength, capable of battling high-level Danger Beasts. Yet, she had perished protecting her master.

In contrast, the Anningdao leader's perfect human appearance allowed them to avoid being treated as an outcast. Most hybrids were not so fortunate, often facing persecution worse than even the half-fishmen of the One Piece world.

Among the 48 Imperial Arms created by the Empire's first emperor, there had been one focused on healing. Unfortunately, that Imperial Arm was destroyed during an internal conflict years ago.

"The Revolutionary Army has received intelligence that Honest is planning to strike against Anningdao. They're trying to persuade the church to join us," Najenda briefed the members of Night Raid as they prepared for their next mission.

Despite the unsettling information provided by Daniel during their last encounter, which had sown seeds of distrust toward the Revolutionary Army's leadership, Najenda knew they couldn't afford to turn on their allies while the Empire remained a common enemy. She promised the members of Night Raid that, after the revolution, justice would be served against those within their ranks who deserved it.

"According to the intel, the entire Jaegers unit will be deployed for this mission, making it extremely dangerous. You all need to be prepared for the worst," Najenda warned. In the original story, she might have set an ambush for the Jaegers, but now, with Daniel and Esdeath's overwhelming power, even a full-scale attack by Night Raid might not be enough. Their only hope lay in the Revolutionary Army's larger forces.

"Will Esdeath be there?" Leone asked.

"Yes," Najenda confirmed, her expression grave. "We must avoid direct confrontation with the Jaegers. Our objective is to disrupt Honest's plan, nothing more. To minimize the chance of encountering the Jaegers, I've made some arrangements that should delay them significantly."

"It looks like all the bandits and mercenaries in the area have been drawn here. Najenda is clever, but she's underestimated Esdeath's power," Daniel noted as he and the Jaegers passed through a narrow gorge on their way to Jolok City. They quickly noticed the numerous figures hiding in the cliffs above.

Najenda's plan was straightforward: she leaked the information that Esdeath would be traveling to Jolok City with only a small contingent of troops. This baited nearly a thousand bandits and mercenaries, including many who had fled from the Jaegers' earlier purges near the capital, into gathering for an ambush. In their minds, Esdeath might be strong, but surely not strong enough to take on an entire army.

These bandits had no real understanding of Esdeath's true strength, just like how the "Supernovas" of the One Piece world dreamt of defeating Whitebeard and Kaido without realizing their overwhelming power.

Even Najenda, who had once served alongside Esdeath, was basing her knowledge on an outdated understanding of Esdeath's abilities, not realizing how much stronger she had become.

In the original timeline, if Esdeath had truly wanted to leave, not even Akame and an army of a million soldiers could have stopped her.

"KILL ESDEATH!" As Daniel and the Jaegers entered the gorge, hundreds of bandits and mercenaries rushed out from the cliffs, brandishing weapons. Some sought revenge against Esdeath, while others hoped to make a name for themselves by killing the Empire's most feared general.

Though General Budo's strength matched Esdeath's, he lacked her fame. To many, Esdeath was the Empire's undisputed strongest warrior.

"Leave them alive. I have use for them," Esdeath commanded. Frustrated by the interruption to her training, she stopped Will and Run from intervening, choosing to handle the situation herself. She had been training in the Water Breathing techniques and the Imperial Fist Temple's methods, and this delay was infuriating. Had anyone other than Daniel requested her presence, they would have been refused outright.

Her patience at its limit, Esdeath unleashed a devastating wave of ice, freezing the nearly thousand-strong force in an instant. The entire gorge was transformed into a frozen landscape, half its length encased in ice.

"This is even more efficient than my White Dew and Frost technique," Daniel thought, impressed. While his Yin-Yang technique could freeze opponents, it was far less energy-efficient than Esdeath's ability, which could freeze such a large number of people with minimal effort. The only way Daniel could match this was by using his full power.

His real essence pills, though useful, took years to refine and required rare ingredients. Unlike the Gathering Immortals Pills, which took three years to concoct, Daniel had no time for such a lengthy process. Instead, he relied on his real essence pills, which, thanks to resources gathered from multiple worlds, he could now consume like candy. In fact, Daniel had consumed so many that they no longer had any effect on him.

If the real essence pills Daniel now consumed as snacks were distributed in the Qin dynasty world, they would produce nearly a hundred top-tier masters. Even Esdeath had consumed several of these pills.

While real essence pills were primarily intended to enhance true qi, they also benefited the body, albeit to a lesser degree. For most people, the cost-effectiveness wasn't worth it, but with Daniel's surplus of pills, he didn't need to worry about such things.

"More Philosopher's Stones," Daniel muttered as he used his Convenient Utility Pouch to collect the frozen bandits. Esdeath's ruthless display left Will and Run staring at Daniel in shock.

Instead of letting Esdeath kill these bandits outright, Daniel would transmute them into Philosopher's Stones. Although Blacktooth could slowly recover with rest, using a Philosopher's Stone would expedite the process. If it weren't for the risk of her confronting Akame in a rage, Daniel would have restored her fully by now.

It wasn't just Blacktooth; many others within the Empire also needed the Philosopher's Stones for treatment, such as the women trapped in the capital's pleasure quarters. To control them, their captors had used a variety of drugs, leaving their minds and bodies in shambles.

If these bandits had to die, they might as well serve some greater purpose in death.

"So, this is Esdeath's power. It's terrifying," Mine whispered, shocked, as she lay hidden in a tall tree, watching the scene unfold.

"Let's head back and report. Esdeath is even stronger than before," Leone sighed. With her Lionelle, she had inherited the lion's heart, but even she felt fear in the presence of Esdeath.

When Esdeath first returned to the capital, Leone had considered assassinating her. But the moment she laid eyes on Esdeath, her instincts screamed of mortal danger, and she fled.

"Welcome, General Esdeath!" Upon arriving in Jolok City, the Jaegers were warmly welcomed by Borik, who had arranged a luxurious reception. Esdeath, being a woman, was treated with utmost respect, while Daniel, Will, and Run were each provided with a beautiful female devotee.

Every religious organization has its zealots, and Anningdao was no exception. Borik had taken full advantage of his position, exploiting the faith of many women within the church.

"Where's the church leader?" Daniel asked, uninterested in Borik's obsequious hospitality. To Daniel, Borik was as good as dead.

"The church leader is inspecting the surrounding areas, making the final preparations for the Creation Festival."

"I've heard this leader is wise, with healing and prophetic abilities. How did someone like you manage to rise to such a position under them?" Daniel mused aloud. Borik's behavior made it clear he wasn't particularly bright. For a spy, he was far too flamboyant—his cover had likely already been blown.

"Commander is tired. Please arrange for us to rest," Daniel said, noticing the

tension between Esdeath and the Rakshasa Demons.

The Rakshasa Demons had arrived in Jolok City several days earlier. Upon meeting the Jaegers, they dared not challenge Esdeath but openly showed their disdain for Will and Run.

As martial artists who had honed their skills through rigorous training, the Rakshasa Demons looked down on Imperial Arms users, seeing them as reliant on their weapons rather than their own strength. Had they not feared Esdeath, they would likely have expressed their disdain for her as well.

From the moment they met, the Rakshasa Demons had tried to intimidate Will and Run. However, they underestimated Esdeath's protective nature. She might be ruthless, but she cared deeply for her subordinates, as evidenced by the high morale and loyalty within her Northern Army.

The Demons' attempts to bully Will and Run only resulted in Esdeath challenging them to a fight. Without using her Imperial Arm, Esdeath effortlessly defeated all four of them, leaving them thoroughly humiliated.

"So this is the Empire," Will muttered as they entered a secluded villa. The sight of Borik's debauchery had shaken him deeply. He had come to the capital with high hopes of serving the Empire, but the reality he faced left him questioning his ideals.

"I expected more from the Rakshasa Demons," Esdeath said, disappointed. Her interest in the Imperial Fist Temple's techniques had waned after her fight with the Demons. While Daniel had suggested she study their methods, seeing their weakness firsthand left her disillusioned.

"You're rushing things," Daniel said as he activated his Mirror Dimension, enveloping himself and Esdeath in its protective bubble.

"The Rakshasa Demons' strength may be lacking, but their body control techniques will help you master the Six Powers faster. Let me show you what the Six Powers can do." Daniel demonstrated each of the Six Powers and the Life Return technique.

The Kraken soup that Daniel had obtained was a rare resource, one that the World Government in One Piece would covet for its ability to significantly enhance the strength of CP agents.

Total control over one's body had its benefits, even down to eliminating the need for haircuts by controlling hair growth. Akame's foster father, the master assassin Gozuki, was an expert in controlling his hair for both offense and defense.

"Let's start with 'Shave' today," Daniel said, deciding that Esdeath's physical condition was now suitable for learning the Six Powers.

Beyond physical combat, Esdeath's use of her Imperial Arm was still somewhat crude. There were countless ways to utilize the power of ice, from forming armor around her body to creating weapons like a certain lantern king who rained down ice-made weapons from above.

But that wasn't entirely Esdeath's fault. Having grown up in a remote tribe, she had only a basic education. Concepts like geometry were foreign to her. Daniel planned to teach her more about these subjects, knowing that with better knowledge of geometry and mathematics, she would naturally discover new ways to wield her Imperial Arm.
