With My System, I Can Even Tame Gods

Chapter 970 Heritage (1)

The news of the Huang Family being taken down quickly spread through the entirety of Southern Cloud City.

With how many troops from the city lord manor were moved and the prestige that the Huang Family had in Southern Cloud City, it was impossible for this matter to be swept under the table.

The Huang Family members were all restrained and taken away in plain sight of everyone, so there was nothing that could be hidden.

The reason why this was made public was all because of the different businesses that relied on the Huang Family.

Since the Huang Family had fallen, there was no doubt that they would suffer as well.

This was the consideration of the city lord for these businesses.

Of course, there was a limit to how much consideration the city lord could have.

Those businesses that were directly linked to the Huang Family naturally didn't receive the same consideration as the businesses that were just indirectly linked.

If a business was just using the prestige of the Huang Family to do business, then they were given the choice to find a new backer since the Huang Family was gone now. As long as they chose a new backer for themselves, the city lord manor didn't make things hard for them.

If a business was directly linked to the Huang Family, then they would be forced to close and all of their assets were taken by the city lord manor.

When those businesses tried to complain, the city lord manor just told them the crimes that the Huang Family was charged with.

In the face of these treason charges, there was nothing to argue.

After all, none of them wanted to be known as a traitor in the Mu Empire.

Being labelled as a traitor of the Mu Empire was basically a death sentence, especially since they weren't even cultivators, but normal people.

So the only thing that they could do was accept whatever the city lord manor did.

At the very least, it didn't seem like the city lord manor was planning on taking them in since they were just working for the Huang Family. That gave them a chance to take what they needed and start a new life.

After all of this was handled, there was an execution that was held.

People didn't think that there would be an execution for the Huang Family because they were the Huang Family, but the city lord manor actually held a public execution for the members of the Huang Family.

With the way that this matter was handled, it was almost as if the city lord manor was making an example of the Huang Family.

When the Huang Family appeared, all of the members had eyes filled with fear.

The Huang Family was a family that had extreme power in this Southern Cloud City, so they had never suffered since they were young. They had never been in a situation like this where they were being paraded in front of everyone in the city.

So when it happened, they were naturally filled with fear.

But at the same time, what they were the most afraid of was being executed in the end.

They could see the stands in front of the crowd and the executioners that were standing there. This was more than enough for them to understand that their lives were in danger right now.

"You can't do this to us!"

"Do you know who we are!"

"How dare you say that we're traitors!"

The members of the Huang Family shouted out loud in an attempt to save themselves, but there was no one that took them seriously.

In fact, most of the people that were in the crown were actually looking forward to seeing the members of the Huang Family being executed.

The kind of family that they were…was not one that used their power responsibly. They were a family that let their power go to their heads and then abused it.

So there were many people that had suffered at the hands of the Huang Family that wanted to see them get their retribution. That was why there were so many people gathered here in the first place.

As for the head and the ancestor of the Huang Family, the ones that cared the most about their own lives, they were surprisingly silent. But that was because they were looking around the entire area, as if they were looking for someone in specific.

It was as if they wanted to find someone that would be able to save their lives.

Only that person that they were looking for wasn't here at all.

"Are you sure that you don't want to watch?" Lin Fan asked Huang Xie while they were in the Huang Family manor.

Today was the day that the Huang Family were being executed, a decision that Lin Fan was surprised that Huang Xie came to. He thought that Huang Xie would keep them imprisoned because he was still related to them.

Or at the very least, Huang Xie would keep them imprisoned so that he could torment them for what they did.

But Huang Xie wasn't interested in that at all.

He just told the Southern Cloud City Lord that they should be punished for their crimes and in as public of a manner as possible. Of course, the Southern Cloud City Lord confirmed this with Lin Fan before doing it, but Lin Fan agreed to whatever Huang Xie wanted to do.

That didn't explain why Huang Xie was skipping the execution to come to the Huang Family manor.

Huang Xie didn't say anything in response to the question that Lin Fan asked as he continued into the Huang Family manor.

He ignored the main manor and moved to the back of the manor where there was a large yard.

In the middle of the yard was actually a small house.

This was a small house that was completely separated from the rest of the Huang Family manor, a place that seemed like it was where those that were exiled from the Huang Family were sent.

The way that Huang Xie came to this place seemed like he was very familiar with this place.

Lin Fan didn't need an answer to know what this place was and he could guess why Huang Xie had come here. Not to mention that based on the look in Huang Xie's eyes, he could tell that this place was quite the meaningful place to him.

So that was why Lin Fan suddenly stopped.

When Lin Fan stopped, it was as if Huang Xie was pulled out of his daze and he turned around to ask, "Master, what's wrong?"

Lin Fan was surprised to hear him ask this, but he said, "This place is special to you, so I'll stay out here. Just go in and take all the time that you need, I'll be here when you're done."

But to Lin Fan's further surprise, Huang Xie actually shook his head and said, "Master, please come in with me. I actually want you to see my mother's grave."

Lin Fan didn't know why Huang Xie was saying this, but he just nodded in agreement in the end.

Huang Xie didn't say anything else as he turned around again and led the way forward.

When they came over the small building, Huang Xie pushed the door open with an emotional look on his face.

The inside of the building wasn't anything special since this place was a very small place that was isolated from the rest of the Huang Family manor. In fact, it even seemed like this place was worse than some of the slums that Lin Fan had seen before.

It was clear that they had tried to make the lives of whoever lived here as bad as possible.

But Lin Fan could also see that there were traces of what seemed to be a home in this place.

Whoever lived here had tried to make the best of the situation.

"I'm home." Huang Xie said after taking the first step into the small building.

Only there was no one that said this back to him.

Huang Xie took a moment to gather himself before turning around again.

The look on his face seemed like he wasn't ready to deal with what was inside of the building yet, so he went to a different place outside the building. He went to a small garden that had a few flowers growing in it.

To the side of this garden was a small stone plate that was sticking out of the ground.

It was small, but anyone that saw it could tell that it was some kind of grave.

When Huang Xie arrived in front of this small stone plate, he fell to his knees and bowed his head before saying, "Mom, I'm back."

Silence hung in the air after Huang Xie said this.

He didn't say a thing and Lin Fan also didn't say anything since he didn't know what he could say in this situation. So he just stood there on the side without making a sound, waiting for Huang Xie to finish.

Only Huang Xie suddenly raised his head and turned slightly to gesture at Lin Fan before saying, "Mom, this is my master. He's the one that saved me and took care of me after I escaped this place."

Lin Fan didn't know what to say at first, but then he said in a calm voice, "Madam, you have nothing to worry about. The Love Sect and I will take care of him in the future."

Huang Xie's eyes started to water a bit before he said, "Master, thank you."

Lin Fan gave a simple nod to him and said nothing else.

There was nothing else that he had to say.
