Chapter 91: MasterMinds II
As the meeting among the Moderate Harlequin Alliance progressed, the conversation turned darker. Clayman, ever the schemer, leaned forward with a sly grin on his face.
"There's one more card we can play to ensure Tempest's downfall," he began, his voice dripping with malice.
Yuuki raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? And what might that be, Clayman?"
Clayman's grin widened. "Charybdis."
The room went still for a moment, the weight of the name hanging heavily in the air. Charybdis, the mindless calamity, a destructive force of nature that had once terrorized the world.
Kigali crossed her arms, her expression skeptical. "Charybdis? That monster's been sealed for ages. How do you plan to revive it?"
Clayman waved a hand dismissively. "I've already taken steps to gather what's needed. A fragment of the core that once controlled it has been located. With the right magic and a suitable host, reviving Charybdis is entirely possible."
Footman's booming laugh echoed through the room. "Oh, this is getting good! Charybdis tearing through Tempest? I can already see the carnage!"
Yuuki's gaze sharpened. "And you're sure you can control it? Charybdis is a mindless beast, but even a mindless beast can be unpredictable."
Clayman smirked, clearly enjoying the attention. "That's the beauty of it. Charybdis doesn't need to be controlled in the conventional sense. Its only desire is destruction. Once unleashed, it will head straight for Tempest, drawn to the concentration of magicules in the region. The monster will devastate everything in its path, leaving nothing but ruins. And while Rimuru and his people struggle to stop it, the rest of our plan will unfold."
Kigali frowned. "And if they manage to defeat it? Rimuru has a habit of turning impossible situations in his favor."
Clayman's eyes gleamed with malice. "That's where the timing comes in. Charybdis isn't meant to win; it's meant to distract. While Rimuru's forces are busy dealing with the monster, Falmuth's army will strike, weakening their defenses even further. Then, once they've exhausted themselves, Frey, Carrion, and I will swoop in and finish the job."
Yuuki tapped his fingers on the table, thinking. "You're playing a dangerous game, Clayman. If this backfires, we'll lose any advantage we have. But… it could work. The chaos Charybdis brings might be enough to tip the scales in our favor."
Clayman smiled smugly. "Oh, it will work. I've already arranged for a suitable host to fuse with Charybdis' core. Once the ritual is complete, the monster will rise again."
Tear, who had been silent until now, grinned. "And the best part? No one will be able to trace it back to us. We can make it look like some rogue faction or a remnant of an ancient power awakened it."
Yuuki nodded. "Good. Keep it that way. We don't want anyone, especially Rimuru, connecting the dots too soon."
Yuuki leaned back in his chair, his sharp mind already working out the logistics. "We'll need to synchronize this perfectly. When will Charybdis be ready?"
Clayman responded confidently, "A few weeks. The preparations are nearly complete. Once the core is fused with the host, Charybdis will awaken and begin its rampage."
Yuuki added, "Good. That gives us time to coordinate with Falmuth and ensure Hinata is on the move. I'll send word to the church, feeding them more 'evidence' of Rimuru's supposed crimes. If we can get Hinata to engage him around the same time, Tempest won't stand a chance."
Kigali chimed in, "We should also plant misinformation in Tempest to keep their forces scattered. If they're spread too thin, they won't be able to respond effectively to Charybdis or the other attacks."
Laplace grinned. "I can handle that. A little bit of sabotage, a few whispers here and there, and they'll be chasing their tails while the real threat looms over them."
Yuuki nodded. "Perfect. Once Tempest is in chaos, we'll pull the strings behind the scenes and let everything fall apart. If Rimuru manages to survive all this, he'll be too weak to stop us from taking control of the entire region."
As the meeting drew to a close, the members of the Moderate Harlequin Alliance dispersed to carry out their respective tasks.
Clayman left with a satisfied smirk, eager to oversee the final preparations for Charybdis' revival. Kigali and Laplace began organizing their agents to infiltrate Tempest and Falmuth. Footman and Tear, ever eager for chaos, prepared to spread misinformation and disrupt communications.
Yuuki, alone in the room, gazed out the window, his expression thoughtful. "Rimuru… you're strong, but you're not invincible. Let's see how you handle a storm from all sides."
With that, the stage was set for the most dangerous and intricate plan yet to destroy Tempest. Unbeknownst to the conspirators, however, their schemes would eventually lead to their undoing, as the ties between their actions would be unraveled by a force far beyond their expectations.
