Chapter 158: 2nd Chance
As the quiet aftermath of Artemis's defeat hung over the Cardinal World, Beerus stood tall amidst the remnants of chaos, his wives gathered around him. The destruction left in Artemis's wake was evident—the world lay in ruins, with vast chasms, shattered landscapes, and entire regions reduced to ash. Yet Beerus, as calm as ever, surveyed it all with an indifferent gaze.
Zerna: (folding her arms, her crimson eyes watching Beerus)
"So, what now, darling? You've dealt with the so-called god of chaos. Are you going to leave this world in ruins?"
Erza: (smirking, her arms resting on her sheathed blade)
"They brought this upon themselves, after all. Their greed, their wars—it's not like they deserve your mercy."
Velzar: (with a soft, melodic laugh)
"But you're not one to destroy without reason, are you, Beerus? What's your plan?"
Beerus closed his eyes, a faint smirk gracing his lips, before he turned to face his wives.
Beerus: (calmly)
"I'll revive them. Every last one of them. But I won't rebuild this world for them. They brought this destruction upon themselves with their endless greed and petty wars. If they're to have a future, they'll earn it by working together. That will be their lesson."
His wives exchanged glances, some amused, some intrigued.
Delta: (nodding approvingly)
"A fitting punishment. Teach them the value of unity through their own hands."
Beta: (chuckling)
"Still, it's more mercy than they deserve. You truly are soft, Beerus."
Beerus: (his gaze narrowing slightly)
"Mercy? Hardly. This is justice. Now, watch carefully."
With that, Beerus raised a single hand, his aura swelling with divine energy. The shattered skies seemed to brighten as streaks of golden light began descending upon the Cardinal World. The air grew still, vibrating with an otherworldly hum. Across the realm, shimmering orbs of light began to materialize—soul orbs. These orbs, each one glowing with the unique essence of its owner, floated silently in the air, forming an ethereal constellation that spanned the entirety of the world.
Velzar: (softly, awe in her voice)
"He's calling back every soul..."
Beerus stood amidst the countless orbs, his golden eyes scanning them to ensure no soul was left behind. The sheer scope of the revival was staggering, encompassing humans, monsters, animals—every living being that had fallen during the battle.
Beerus: (quietly to himself)
"Everyone is accounted for."
He then spoke, his voice carrying across the world, resonating in every corner:
Beerus:
"Rise."
The command echoed like thunder, and the soul orbs trembled in response. They surged forward, racing toward their respective bodies. One by one, the lifeless forms scattered across the land began to glow as the orbs merged with them. The dead stirred, their bodies rejuvenating as life returned to them. Humans, monsters, and animals alike began to open their eyes, confusion and awe etched into their faces.
In the monster nation of Tempest, Rimuru's allies—Benimaru, Shion, Diablo, Souei, and others—awoke with a start. They looked at each other, disbelief and relief in their eyes.
Benimaru: (rising to his feet)
"What... happened? I was sure we..."
Shion: (gripping her weapon tightly, her expression fierce)
"Did we lose? Where is Lord Rimuru?"
Diablo: (grinning as he dusted himself off)
"No, it seems Lord Rimuru's faith in Beerus wasn't misplaced. We're alive."
In human nations, soldiers and civilians alike gasped as they came back to life. Families reunited, tears of joy streaming down their faces as they embraced one another. Even the Eastern Empire's fallen soldiers, including Rudra's forces, found themselves alive once more. Rudra himself knelt on the battlefield, his eyes wide in astonishment.
Rudra: (whispering to himself)
"This power... to bring back every soul... It's beyond comprehension."
In other parts of the world, monsters roared with renewed vigor, animals began to stir, and even the flora and fauna seemed to regain life. The Cardinal World itself seemed to breathe again, rejuvenated by the overwhelming energy Beerus had infused into it.
Beerus descended gently to the ground, his wives standing beside him as they watched the world come alive again. The revived masses looked up to the skies, where Beerus's presence was visible to all. His golden aura radiated with an authority that demanded attention.
Beerus: (his voice reverberating across the land, carrying an overwhelming authority that silenced all who heard it)
"You stand here not by your own strength, but by my will. I have brought you back from the brink of annihilation, but do not mistake this act for mercy. It is not forgiveness. This is your punishment and your final chance to prove you deserve the lives you've been gifted.
"Artemis came to destroy you because he saw you as weak, divided, and unworthy of existence. And you proved him right. You waged endless wars fueled by greed, consumed by your own arrogance, and when the storm came, you fell like leaves before the wind. You gave him the very justification he needed to erase you from existence."
"But hear me now—this world, this second chance, is your burden to carry. You will rebuild what was lost. You will mend what was broken, not with power, but with unity and wisdom. If I sense even a trace of the same greed, hatred, and division that led to your downfall, I will not intervene again. There will be no redemption, no revival, no second plea for survival. The next time, your annihilation will be absolute."
"I have restored this world, not for you to repeat the mistakes of the past, but to rise above them. Prove to me that you are capable of change. Prove to me that you are worthy of the lives I've returned. Fail, and I will make sure your failure echoes through eternity."
His gaze swept across the trembling masses, the weight of his words sinking into their hearts. The once-proud kings, warriors, and monsters bowed their heads in silence, shaken to their very core. None dared to speak, for they knew the truth in his words. The world had been spared, but the shadow of Beerus's warning hung over them like a storm cloud, a reminder of the price of their folly.
