Chapter 14: Chapter 13: My Name is Gwen Stacy
"Wow, folks, I never imagined there'd be so many of us!" exclaimed Spider-Ham, bouncing around on the floor with exaggerated excitement.
He bouncily made his way over to the three newcomers, extending a wet hand. "Oh, sorry about that, I just washed my hands. If it bothers you, I can wipe them off."
The Sweatpants Spider-Man bent down slightly and shook the offered hand. "No problem at all. Nice to meet you. But could someone explain what exactly is going on here?"
"Well, how about we introduce ourselves again?" Peter suggested.
Spider-Noir, hands in his pockets, sighed. "Fine, I'll go first."
After everyone went through introductions again, it was time for the newcomers to introduce themselves.
"Hello, everyone. My name is Peter Parker. I'm a cheerful and outgoing middle-aged man," said the Sweatpants Spider-Man—Middle-aged Peter Spider—proudly puffing out his large belly.
Beside him, the young Black boy hesitantly introduced himself, looking shy. "H-hi, everyone. I'm Miles Morales. You can just call me Miles."
The two stood before Peter and the others, but Peter's attention was mostly on the girl behind them—the one wearing the sleek black-and-white spider suit.
Her appearance reminded him of someone, but he wasn't entirely sure.
Noticing Peter's lingering gaze, Middle-aged Peter Spider turned and called out to her, "Hey, kid, how about introducing yourself?"
The girl turned, her soft blonde hair flipping back over her shoulder, revealing a delicate face. She smiled slightly and said, "Hi, my name is Gwen Stacy."
Gwen?
So it really was Gwen!
Peter's thoughts clicked into place.
He knew about the existence of Spider-Gwen thanks to a fan-made video he'd seen online. It followed the events after Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man returned not to his own universe but accidentally ended up in Gwen Stacy's world, where she had become that universe's Spider-Man.
At first, Peter thought it was just a wildly creative fan fiction. But from the comments, he learned that among the countless Spider-People across the multiverse, Spider-Gwen was indeed real.
Realizing this, Peter couldn't help but look at Gwen with a mix of admiration and excitement.
Gwen Stacy—the eternal first love, the "white moonlight" of so many Spider-Man fans!
But Peter quickly shook his head, clearing away any stray thoughts.
This Gwen wasn't that Gwen.
Moreover, judging by Gwen's demeanor, she seemed somewhat aloof, not the type who would be eager to engage in much conversation with them.
Realizing this, Peter shifted his focus back to Miles.
"Wait, did you say your name is Miles? Miles Morales?"
Miles looked at Peter and nodded. "Uh-huh. Why?"
Peter asked, "Do you have an uncle named Aaron Davis?"
Miles's eyes widened in surprise. "You know my uncle?"
Peter pressed further, "And do you have two childhood friends, Phin and Rick Mason?"
Miles was even more astonished. "You know Phin and Rick Mason too? Did we meet when we were kids?"
Peter chuckled softly and shook his head. "No, we've never met. By the way, you're from this world, right?"
"Yeah," Miles nodded again, puzzled. "What about it?"
Peter said, "Nothing much. I just needed to confirm something. And now I've got my answer."
"What did you confirm?" asked Spider-Noir, raising an eyebrow.
Even Gwen, who had been keeping herself distanced from the group, glanced curiously at Peter.
Peter revealed his discovery.
He explained that he had played a few Spider-Man games in the past, one of which was called Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
The game's story revolved around a young Black man named Miles who, by chance, was bitten by a genetically modified spider, granting him powers similar to Spider-Man.
In the game, Spider-Man had left for a trip abroad with Mary Jane, leaving Miles as the sole Spider-Man in New York. The player controlled Miles, guiding him through his journey.
Miles trained using lessons left behind by Spider-Man and fought against the underground gang led by his childhood friend, Phin. Along the way, he also discovered that his uncle, Aaron Davis, was actually the Prowler.
Eventually, the story led Miles to Oscorp, where he faced off against Phin, who had become the Tinkerer. Their confrontation was both a battle and a heartbreaking clash between friends.
In the climactic moment, Miles absorbed the energy from a dangerous experimental substance called Nuform to prevent a catastrophic explosion.
To save New York, Phin launched Miles into the sky, where the energy within him detonated, killing Phin in the process.
"Wait a second!" Miles widened his eyes and stared at Peter in disbelief. "You've got to be joking, right? Uncle Aaron as the Prowler? And Phin? I haven't seen her in five or six years! How could she end up as a gang leader? And a game where I'm the main character exists in your world?!"
Miles's expression was the perfect depiction of a classic "confused Black guy" meme.
Peter frowned slightly. "There are definitely some differences. Based on the information we've gathered, the current leader of New York's underground gangs seems to still be Kingpin, not the Tinkerer. And…"
As he spoke, Peter instinctively glanced toward Aunt May on the other side of the room.
Spider-Noir and the others immediately understood the unspoken implication.
The Spider-Man in Peter's story was alive, but in this world, he was already gone.
Peter hesitated for a moment, his mind racing, before suddenly arriving at a realization.
The Miles in front of him must be another version!
The game he had played was produced by Sony, and its storyline diverged somewhat from the original version. This Miles was likely the original version.
In other words, this was the difference between "Miles" and "PS4 Miles."
They were parallel-universe counterparts.
And if this was the original Miles, Peter knew exactly what this world and its fallen Spider-Man represented.
Earth-1610!
The Marvel Ultimate Universe!
The Spider-Man who had died was none other than the Ultimate Spider-Man!
How did Peter know this? Well, when he played the game and realized that the Spider-Man was Black, curiosity had driven him to research Miles and his backstory.
This "little Black Spider" had abilities distinct from most other Spider-People.
One of his standout powers was a unique bioelectric attack. When enhanced by his bioelectric energy, his attacks were exponentially more powerful, with additional effects like armor penetration and paralysis.
It was a highly effective ability.
Beyond that, Miles had another extraordinary skill: invisibility!
This invisibility was so advanced that, in the game, it could even bypass infrared detection systems.
If this Miles was indeed the parallel counterpart of PS4 Miles, then he likely possessed these abilities too.
