Chapter 17: Improvement
"This piece of magic stone is worth it."
Ronan sighed.
After selling the runes, the shop assistant spent most of the day enthusiastically promoting the magical instruments that were the main products sold in the workshop to him.
If Ronan had enough magic stones in his pocket, he might have bought one of the low-level zero-order magic tools.
"I can't afford the magic tools, but I have to replace the rune carving knife. The old one is so worn out that it will affect the success rate of the engraving."
Ronan suddenly remembered this and subconsciously turned around to go back to the workshop, but the next second he lightly slapped his forehead.
"stupid!"
"It must be cheaper to buy things from the street stalls! Let's go to the wizard market!"
Because things went smoothly, Ronan had plenty of time for this trip.
With eighteen low-level magic stones on his waist, Ronan walked with a domineering manner in the wizard market full of stalls.
Ronan walked around until the sun was setting before he left the town.
He spent two low-level magic stones and bought a good quality rune carving knife at a grocery stall.
Although it is second-hand, it is made of a special metal called tungsten silver. Both its feel and durability are much better than Ronan's original one.
He originally planned to find a house in a town's residential area after he had money, but after being taken to several places by the real estate agent, Ronan was not satisfied with any of them.
Town life has its own advantages: safety and convenience.
But there are many bad things, such as it is noisy and crowded. If you want to practice alone in peace and quiet, you have to spend money to go to a special spell training room, or go to the wild.
Now Ronan no longer feels as insecure as when he first came here. After living in the tree house for more than two months, he has gradually become accustomed to life in the forest.
After much consideration, Ronan finally decided to put his plan of moving into the town on hold.
"It's better to save more money and go directly to college life when the time comes."
On the way back home, Ronan stood on a high slope near the forest, looking at the Hoddam College shrouded in white mist in the distance, and made a silent decision in his heart.
Although everything seems to be slowly getting back on track for him now, in fact the road ahead is still difficult.
If he wants to continue steadily on the path of a wizard, he must eventually return to the academy, where there is a truly complete and systematic inheritance.
This is something that is almost impossible to achieve as a wandering wizard.
"Hoddam."
Ronan took a deep look at the center shrouded in white fog, his lips trembled slightly, then he turned around and ran towards the forest ahead with the purse in his arms.
The days passed one by one in peace.
Ronan's daily routine is still hard training.
After having the character panel, he is like a completely different person compared to his previous life. Now he enjoys almost any activity that can improve his proficiency.
Watching the numbers on the character panel increase little by little, even the most boring practice will no longer feel boring.
"Tick-tick-tick-tick-tick-"
Sweat dripped down his chin onto the wooden floor, leaving a clear dark pool of water.
In the stuffy little room, Ronan was shirtless, wearing only a pair of white shorts, half-lying on the ground in an awkward, almost weird posture.
His face was red and tense, his teeth were tightly biting his lower lip, veins were clearly visible on his forehead, and mist was rising from his head, as if he was enduring great pain.
If there were outsiders present at this time and observed Ronan closely, they would find that his body, which had already been twisted out of control, was still moving towards an even more outrageous posture at an extremely slow speed.
I don't know how much time had passed.
Suddenly, there was a crisp "pop" sound in the hut, as if something suddenly broke.
This was followed by a series of "crackling" sounds.
Ronan, who had remained still the previous second, now jumped up and down on the floor as if he had a cramp. The continuous sound of his muscles and bones popping came from his body.
After the "twitching and jumping", sweat poured down like rain.
All the pores on Ronan's body seemed to be flooded. Large drops of sweat seeped out of his body at a very fast speed, forming a "stream" on the surface of his body, and flowing into the cracks in the floor under his feet.
After a while, Ronan, who was almost dehydrated, sat down on the ground weakly, but his face was full of joy that could not be concealed.
"Damn it, I finally mastered this torturous self-abuse technique."
"Pain can stimulate the growth of mental strength, so in turn the growth of mental strength can naturally improve my ability to withstand pain. This method really works!"
"I'm such a fucking genius!"
Ronan's face was full of pride as he called up his current character panel.
[Name: Ronan Damien]
Age: 16
[Talent: No attribute affinity]
[Strength: Level 3 Wizard Apprentice (45%)]
[Skill: Basic Meditation (Mastery 221/400)
Energy Missile (Expert 288/800)
Charged Weapons (Proficiency 67/200)
Rune Marking - Clean (Proficient 77/200), Shining (Beginner 21/100)
Asceticism and Body Building (Entry 1/100)]
Compared with more than a month ago, Ronan's attributes have undergone tremendous changes.
The most exaggerated thing is his strength level. He was directly promoted from a second-level apprentice to a third-level apprentice, and the progress is almost halfway.
The reason was that
Ronan was on drugs!
After drinking a bottle of concentration potion worth twenty low-level magic stones, his mental strength increased by more than one level.
The reason for taking drugs is very simple, rune engraving!
After the [Clean] rune reached the proficient level, Ronan was no longer satisfied with the meager profits from the low-level universal runes of order zero, and began to aspire to the huge profits from the intermediate and even high-level runes.
As for universal runes above intermediate level zero, the difficulty of engraving is one aspect, but the most important thing is the mental strength required of the rune master.
For example, a zero-level intermediate rune requires the mental strength of an intermediate wizard apprentice.
There are nine levels of apprenticeship, with levels one to three being considered elementary.
Levels four to six are considered intermediate, and advanced levels correspond to levels seven to nine. Apprentices above level nine are formal wizards.
An intermediate wizard apprentice represents at least the level of a fourth-level apprentice.
Ronan calculated that with his own qualifications, even with the bonus of high proficiency in meditation, it would take at least one to two years to reach the fourth-level apprentice.
He couldn't wait.
So I chose to take drugs.
"These are all necessary investments in the early stages. Besides, the strength gained from the potion I drink is still mine. It's a win-win situation!"
This has proven to be true, and Ronan has already seen rich rewards at this stage.
Although his strength had not yet reached level four, his level three mental strength allowed him to become more comfortable when engraving the [Clean] rune. Coupled with his improved proficiency, the success rate of engraving the [Clean] rune was now close to one-half.
It also helped Ronan unlock a new rune - [Shining].
As low-level runes of rank zero, [Shining] is slightly more difficult to engrave than [Clean], and its price is also higher. Welling Workshop purchases it for two magic stones.
But in fact, Ronan felt that the effect of the [Shining] rune was far less significant than that of the [Clean] rune.
The [Shining] rune is only used to make the magic tool more attractive, and it is simply an enchantment with a light effect.
