Chapter 28: Shattered Soul
Jay's body trembled, the darkness pressing in from all sides. He could feel the weight of the demon's words wrapping around him, trying to break him, trying to turn him into something he wasn't. The shadows were clawing at him, filling his mind with whispers of doubt, of fear, of despair.
"You're not strong enough," the demon's voice echoed in his ears. "The shadows will consume you. You cannot fight fate."
Jay gritted his teeth. No.
With every ounce of willpower, he pushed back against the darkness. The orb in his hand flared with light, but it was weak, flickering like a candle in the wind. He could feel the shadows closing in, threatening to smother him.
But then, something inside him shifted. The light he had been holding onto was not just something outside himself. It was a part of him. It had always been a part of him.
"You're wrong," Jay muttered through gritted teeth. "I will control this."
With a surge of strength, Jay focused all of his energy on the orb. The shadows howled in fury as the light grew brighter, and Jay's heart pounded in his chest. The light within him flared, pushing back against the darkness, filling the void with warmth.
The demon screamed in frustration as Jay's light grew stronger, blinding the shadows around him.
