VOIDBLADE: THE LAST SWORD OF THE END

Chapter 38: Chapter 39: Whispers of Dominion

The battlefield lay in ruin. Cracks split the ground, still smoldering from the Reaver's black flames. The air felt thin — like the void itself had taken a breath and hadn't exhaled. And at the center of it all stood Void God, his blade still dripping with traces of the Reaver's essence.

For a moment, there was only silence.

Then the whispers returned.

"Take…"

"Ascend…"

Void God ignored them. Barely. The hunger was stronger than before — the fight had fed it, and now it wanted more. But he kept it caged, forced it down with iron will. He was no mere vessel for the void's will. He was the void's will.

And the void obeyed him.

The Reaver's remains faded into nothing — all except for one thing. A single shard of obsidian-black crystal, pulsing faintly with an inner light.

[Abyss-Touched Core] (S Rank)

A fragment of a being corrupted by the abyss. Grants unparalleled power at great cost.

Void God reached down and claimed it. The moment his fingers brushed the surface, the world around him tilted — and he saw.

The Abyss. Endless, formless, alive.

And at its heart — a throne of black stone. Empty. Waiting.

For him.

The vision passed, but the weight of it lingered. The whispers had grown louder, more insistent. But there was no time to dwell on them — not yet.

"That was… terrifying."

Void God turned. Jin stood at the edge of the shattered battlefield, his eyes wide. His Lightning Battle Mage armor was scuffed and cracked, his staff sparking faintly with residual energy. He hadn't interfered in the fight — just like Void God had told him — but he'd clearly seen everything.

"Good," Void God said simply.

Jin blinked. "Good? You call that good? That thing almost killed you!"

"It didn't."

Jin stared at him like he'd grown a second head. "You're insane."

Void God didn't argue. He gestured toward the remains of the battlefield. "What did you learn?"

Jin hesitated. "…That I'm nowhere near strong enough?"

"That's obvious."

"Wow. Thanks."

Void God's lips twitched. "But not what I meant. What did you see?"

Jin's brow furrowed. "The Reaver… it wasn't just power. It was something else. The way it moved — the way it twisted reality — that wasn't normal."

"Because it wasn't."

Void God tossed the Abyss-Touched Core toward him. Jin caught it instinctively, his eyes widening as he felt the power thrumming through it.

"This is—"

"Corruption," Void God said. "But also strength."

Jin's expression hardened. "You want me to use this."

"I want you to make a choice."

For a long moment, Jin said nothing. He just stared at the core, the light within it reflecting in his eyes. When he finally spoke, his voice was quiet.

"…Why me?"

Void God met his gaze. "Because you're the only one I trust."

The words hung between them, heavy and absolute. Jin's grip on the core tightened — and then, slowly, he nodded.

"I'll think about it."

"Good."

The whispers rose again — louder this time, almost impatient. But Void God ignored them. He had work to do.

"We're moving forward," he said. "Briarstead County belongs to us. But before we take it, we clear out the rot."

Jin's eyes sharpened. "The rival lords."

"And their spies."

Jin grinned. "I assume you have a plan?"

Void God smiled. And the void smiled with him.
