Chapter 4: First hunt
As the cool night wind brushed against my skin, I stood atop one of the buildings in the worst district of New York City—Hell's Kitchen. This place was a hotspot for vigilantes like Daredevil and the Punisher, so I had to be careful. Until I reached D Tier, I'd operate in the shadows, avoiding any attention that could complicate things for me.
I relied on my [Semi-Superhuman Body] to navigate the darkness, my enhanced senses scanning the streets below. My focus was on criminals or unfortunate individuals who wouldn't be missed. With my heightened senses, I could use my smell and hearing to track my prey, but the problem was filtering out all the unnecessary noise and distractions.
This is going to take some getting used to, I thought, trying to get a handle on my new abilities.
After hours of adjusting to my heightened senses, I finally found my prey. I crouched low, my muscles tensing as I focused energy into my legs. With a powerful leap, I launched myself off the building, soaring through the night air. For a few glorious moments, I felt like I was flying, my black coat fluttering behind me. A smile spread across my face as I spread my arms, savoring the freedom of the open sky.
This feels amazing, I thought, my worries momentarily forgotten.
I quickly scanned the area below, searching for a spot to land and leap from again. After a few more jumps and landings, I reached my destination—an old warehouse. From the side of the building, I could observe the scene inside. There were about ten men, their voices carrying through the thin walls.
Perfect
I like this, so how should I approach this? I could go in guns blazing, but that will cause unnecessary problems. I thought about leaning against the side of a wall. After a second had passed, I had made up my mind—I would go in stealth mode this time.
I focused my eyes on one of the guys outside the building. There were five of them. I cut my finger and let the blood flow out of my body. The red, crimson blood, which was a slimy, liquor-like substance, slowly turned into hard, needle-like objects. Then, I levitated the needles, aiming for the necks of the men stationed there. However, the process of controlling and keeping the needles in shape was hard and required every bit of concentration. Even a split second of doubt would make them lose their shape. I needed to train this skill more i thought of was going to created more blood weapons
Without hesitating, I shot the needles at the men, sending them flying at full speed. The first five men outside didn't see what hit them. They brought their hands to their necks, gasping for air, shortly before they died. look at the dead body's of the people a i had kill before kicking the door.
"Okay, stealth mode off now," I thought quickly, scanning the room for the locations of the remaining people. Two upstairs, three downstairs. One was reaching for something, while the other two were not carrying guns.
"Good," I thought.
I shot a blood needle at the man with the gun and focused my energy on my legs, jumping toward the man on the second floor, catching him by surprise. I quickly grabbed his wrist and slammed my fist into his face. The power of my punch was enough to kill him on the spot as his skull shattered.
I didn't stop moving. With his lifeless body still in my grip, I hurled it with all my strength at another guy. The throw was so powerful that it killed him instantly.
I quickly shifted my focus to the last two men in the building—but they were nowhere to be seen.
"They got away," I thought, a hint of sadness creeping into my mind.
"It doesn't matter. I have enough blood for now."
I jumped down from the second floor of the building without a second thought, the height no longer a concern for my enhanced body. I made my way toward the five bodies lying outside. With [Blood Drain], I could absorb their blood to increase my power and complete my mission. A small smile formed on my face as I dragged the last of the bodies and stacked them together.
Now, to activate [Blood Drain], I'd have to bite them—a thought that made me grimace. The idea of biting a 30-year-old man was... unpleasant, to say the least. But I had no other option. I wonder if increasing my tier will allow me to drain blood without biting them, I thought, as I brought the neck of one of the men closer to my mouth.
Chomp.
My fangs sank into the man's neck, and I felt his blood slowly flow into me. This was the first time I'd ever tasted another person's blood, and I was surprised to find it tasted like... warm water. I guess different people have different blood flavors, I mused. After a few minutes, the man's body looked like a dried-up husk.
[+10 Vampire Points]
The system notification confirmed I'd earned points from draining his blood. 10 points... So, different people might give different amounts, I thought, tossing the body aside and moving on to the next one.
This is going to be a long night, I sighed, shaking my head as I prepared to drain the next body.
After draining the blood from all seven people, I was left with nothing but dry husks. I couldn't let anyone discover the bodies like this—if news got out about people being completely drained of blood, it would attract attention from vampire hunters. And I couldn't afford that.
I stacked the bodies together, poured oil over them, and tossed a match. Flames erupted, consuming the pile in a fiery blaze.
"You all made for a good... meal," I muttered, watching the flames dance. Without another word, I leaped away, heading back home.
I landed silently on the roof of my apartment complex and slipped inside. There were still two hours before Remi would wake up, so I carefully opened the door and made my way to my room. Letting out a deep breath, I sat on the floor, finally allowing myself to relax.
That was so dangerous. If anything had gone wrong...
[Mission Complete]
[Reward: 100 Vampire Points]
[Bonus Points for First Mission Completion Without Failure: 100]
[Total points : 270]
A small smile crept onto my face. It was all worth it.
"System, how much to increase the tier?"
[300 points are required to move from F -> E, sir.]
"Ah, I need 30 more points? Okay, that doesn't matter. System, how much to upgrade you?"
[To upgrade the system, you require 100 points.]
"Huh? That's cheap. Why is that?"
[The system was not damaged as your body was due to sunlight and other weakness of yours ]
"Okay, upgrade yourself."
[Upgrade will take 1 hour to process.]
(Yes) (No)
Without hesitation, I pressed the "Yes" button and moved toward my bed to sleep.
I woke up to the sound of banging from outside my room. I could hear Remi shouting from the other side., I stood up from my bed and opened my door to see her standing there with her arms crossed, looking at me with angry eyes. She opened her mouth to say something, but I beat her to it.
"Yes, I'm not going to school today, okay?" I said and closed the door.
"Fine! I'll tell Mom about this!" was the last thing I heard before she stormed out of the house.
Not that I cared.
I was far more interested in the system. Opening it again, I immediately noticed the changes—it had transformed. Drastically.
The interface was completely different, and there were tons of new features. More importantly, the shop had expanded, now filled with a variety of new items.
Things were about to get interesting.
