Chapter 749: Revenge Canned Carps
"What scent do you smell?" Little Huzi asked.
"Revenge." Black Jack said.
"Uh... I don't think this is the time for poetry, can't you be more specific?"
"I think what he means might be the Revenge canned carps."
"Revenge canned carps? Aren't those just a legend?" Little Huzi frowned.
"What are Revenge canned carps?" Ma Lu asked.
"Oh, canned carps by themselves are a very mild-mannered Space Fish that we encountered before. Those Mimic Jellyfish had comparably low aggressive desires; as long as you don't provoke them, they won't attack you.
"And canned carps are considered ambassadors of Universe civilization. Even if attacked, they will absolutely, absolutely not fight back. Coupled with their delicious meat, they are top-notch delicacies, not only extensively fished by humans but also preyed on by other Space Fish.
"In short, they're like canned food in the Multiverse, ready to eat as soon as they're opened, which is where their name comes from."
"Why... don't they fight back?"
"To be precise, it's not that they don't want to fight back, but rather they can't. They are very large in size, weighing up to thousands of pounds, and they move sluggishly and have almost no teeth, usually only able to swallow small chunks of meteorites to fill their stomachs."
"So they just live off eating dirt?"
"Pretty much, but actually their main way of replenishing energy is to orbit around stars, absorbing thermal energy. How about that, isn't it very peaceful?" Little Huzi paused, then continued.
"As for Revenge canned carps, that's just a legend.
"Because of the biological characteristics of canned carps, they almost always make up the bottom of the Universe food chain, existing only as prey. Thus... within their group, some individuals unwilling to be eaten mutated and became Revenge canned carps."
"Revenge canned carps... are they strong?"
"Very strong, because their purpose for existence is to seek revenge on other cosmic beings. It is said that all the anglers who have seen them have died, but then again, from my experience, events without witnesses are most likely rumors.
"Maybe some powerful creature got those anglers, or they had some kind of internal strife. In the end, it's all attributed to the Revenge canned carps."
"Revenge canned carps are not a rumor." Kobold startlingly remarked, "I have encountered it."
"Ah? So, aren't you the only angler who survived an encounter with Revenge canned carps?" Little Huzi exclaimed in surprise, "How was it, as powerful as the legends say?"
"We never actually came face-to-face, or I wouldn't be standing here now. I just smelled its scent from a hundred meters away and managed to escape into the secret cargo hold below the cockpit in time to save my life. Everyone else who was fishing that time died."
"Oh, are you talking about that accident 7 years ago? I think I've heard about it too." Battle Axe Muscle Brother's expression also became grave.
"Now I smell that same scent again."
After the Kobold spoke, the atmosphere grew somewhat silent. After a moment, it was Little Huzi who broke the silence, trying to laugh it off.
"Why be afraid, we're six people now, and we're well-armed... Even if there really is a Revenge canned carp here, it's no match for us!
"Besides, besides, if things turn sour, can't we still leave? After all, we're not far from the gate."
His previous words were bold and confident, but that last sentence gave away his true feelings – he was already thinking of retreat.
After all, one only has one life, but Little Huzi was still somewhat reluctant to part with his fishing catch. Although there was still some time before the fishing was over, if that Revenge canned carp lingered at the top without leaving, then there might be a risk of a timeout in the exchange.
Based on previous fishing events, as soon as the activity ends, even if they still have catches in their hands, they won't be able to exchange them for marbles anymore; they would be unconditionally confiscated.
If such an event were to actually happen, Little Huzi would rather destroy his catch than let that old bastard Yuwen benefit.
Fortunately, there's still some time left before the event ends, so Little Huzi prefers to retreat first and wait for other anglers to scout ahead.
The other members of the squad have the same idea, but as they prepare to leave, they hear footsteps coming from behind.
Someone else is coming up? And at such a critical time!
Little Huzi isn't afraid of a fight, as most of the equipment and catch they have were looted, but if a battle breaks out here, it could potentially attract the Revenge canned carp.
If that happens, even if they can defeat the group behind them, the squad is likely to suffer.
"Don't rush, I'll negotiate with them first. It's best if we don't have to fight and we all retreat together."
Little Huzi tucked away his machine gun and cleared his throat softly.
The people opposite heard his cough and became alert, stopping in their tracks.
"Who's the leader among you?" Little Huzi called out.
A moment later, a figure emerged from the shadows at the other end of the corridor. It was a female giant, taller than Battle Axe Muscle Brother. She had to bow her body slightly so her head wouldn't scrape the ceiling. What's more miraculous is that she had two heads.
One large and one small, with the small one growing on her left shoulder.
"What do you need?" The big head spoke up first, squinting at Little Huzi.
"There's a really tough creature ahead, it's best if you don't go any further," Little Huzi warned.
"There's a tough one ahead? Perfect, let's catch it and exchange it for marbles," the female giant said nonchalantly.
"That's the legendary Revenge canned carp, you're not able to handle it."
"Revenge canned carp?" The female giant scoffed, "That's just a story to scare kids."
Her gaze passed over Little Huzi and Ma Lu, settling on the catch behind them, her eyes flickering with a glint of surprise.
Her big head could still fake a nonchalant look, greed appearing and vanishing in a flash, but the small head shouted outright, "Fish, lots of Space Fish, jackpot!!! We've hit the jackpot this time, let's rob them!"
However, before he could finish his shout, there was a bang, and he exploded into a spray of blood and flesh that smeared across the big head's face.
In the chaos, Ma Lu didn't know who fired the shot, but it was no longer important because even without the gunshot, letting the small head continue shouting would attract that Revenge canned carp.
After the fight broke out, Ma Lu also lifted his rifle and took cover, shooting at the opposite side.
Iron Can Man charged out, shielding Little Huzi, using his armor to protect him as he swore and returned fire.
There were eight people on the opposite side, but their equipment was far inferior to Ma Lu's squad; they seemed to be a newly formed team. When the real fight started, they quickly fell into a disadvantage, with four dead and two seriously injured within a minute.
Only the female giant, now missing one head, and a birdman with white wings on his back were left.
As the squad of six was about to press on and finish off the last two enemies, the lights overhead suddenly flickered.
The next second, a huge dark shadow appeared abruptly in the corridor.
