Chapter 353: Scarf
After the midnight snack, Ma Lu found a movie, but maybe because the Wandering Sorcerer was beside him, he completely relaxed and fell asleep halfway through the movie, even resting his head on the Female Sorceress's thigh.
He had a dream where those Dimensional Pirates came for him again, and were being defeated by the Wandering Sorcerer, scattering in disarray. Just as they were about to be completely wiped out, the Gates of Hell suddenly opened.
Out rushed a group of toasters, spewing out slices of bread. Ma Lu was desperately dodging, but still got hit in the face by a flying slice of bread; then another slice came flying and together they sandwiched him in between.
Struggling fiercely, Ma Lu found that the bread kept tightening its grip, and then… he woke up from the couch.
Sitting up, he noticed that the Female Sorceress was no longer in the living room.
Old Wang was watching the 1996 version of "The Eight Dragons of Heaven" on a new laptop at the dining table.
Seeing Ma Lu open his eyes, and as if knowing what he might ask, he spoke up first.
"The Wandering Sorceress Miss left at 8:18:24 this morning."
"Did she say where she was going?" Ma Lu asked, rubbing his stiff neck.
He didn't quite remember what happened last night, but it seemed he had fallen asleep on the couch.
He did not know what he had used as a pillow, but it was definitely not as comfortable as the newly purchased one.
Speaking of that, the pillow that Ma Youyou recommended was really quite good. Although it was expensive, the price was justified. Now Ma Lu felt kind of uneasy not sleeping on it for even one night.
"The Wandering Sorceress Miss left you something on the coffee table," Old Wang said.
Actually, Ma Lu had already seen the extra scarf and a note on the table before Old Wang spoke.
Ma Lu picked up the note first and saw two lines of small print written on it.
— I have to leave due to some matters, but thank you for the gratitude meal. Please consider the scarf a token of my thanks; I've cast a spell on it that will provide you with protection three times.
After reading the note, Ma Lu picked up the scarf. It was a khaki woolen scarf that felt pretty good to the touch.
He then brought the scarf to number 6, who sniffed it with his drainpipe nose and didn't show much interest.
This meant the scarf was not a High-Dimensional Artifact; it could be attached with a Radish Patch and taken to other planes. However, considering its three-time use limit, Ma Lu decided to keep it to protect his main body.
After all, on other planes, if you die, you just lose some ingredients, but on Earth, death is real.
Scoring life-saving gear from a meal felt like a stroke of luck that made Ma Lu embarrassingly grateful, but at the moment, he couldn't think of a way to repay the Female Sorceress.
He then took out the Radish Patch he bought from Lao Hei the night before and tossed it into the left drum of number 6.
He had been ready for a while to take on new equipment, having saved up about 30,000 Old Points. Repairing the Radish Patch only cost him 1,982 points.
After the repair was successful, Ma Lu tried sticking it onto the Black Hole. As expected, the once uncollectable Black Hole could now be stashed in the Collection Bag.
Now he could take the Black Hole to other planes as well, but the Radish Patch wasn't without its drawbacks.
Since the Black Hole was considered an ingredient, if he died on the other side, according to the rules of the Collection Bag, all of the ingredients inside would explode. Naturally, this included the Black Hole and even the Radish Patch itself.
This reminded Ma Lu that he must be cautious using it; for instance, he didn't bring the Radish Patch with him on this food gathering trip because he wasn't sure if Holy Temple City was still secure.

After having breakfast and playing in Red Ridge for a while, Ma Lu took out the Bug Egg as it was almost time.
It wasn't far from unlocking a new route on the Bug Egg; only a tiny bit of mileage was left.
Ma Lu estimated that after this trip, once he returned, it should be about the right time, as he was planning to head back as well to check on Yun Que and the others.
Before he left last time, he had already done everything he could, and his luck hadn't been bad either—he had found the Σ139+ virus left behind from 300 years ago by the Pointy Hat.
But he wasn't clear on just how long it would take for Σ139+ to take effect; if it was a long time, and Holy Temple City got leveled by those Energized Plants before the virus started working, then it was likely that humanity on that plane would still face extinction.
Additionally, before Ma Lu left, he had entrusted the Blue Mini Drill and the remaining Energy Storage Gems to Yun Que, instructing the girl on how to use them.
However, compared to that Blue Mini Drill, Ma Lu was more concerned about the personal safety of Yun Que and the others; he also planned to go to the top of The Great Tower to see Yong Yi again.
......
Even before opening his eyes, Ma Lu had already gripped the Chef's Knife within moments.
When he left last time, he was outside the city, so according to the transmission rule of the Bug Egg, he should appear at the same spot this time.
Yet after looking around, Ma Lu breathed a sigh of relief because he found that he wasn't surrounded by Energized Plants.
Even though the entire city wall behind him had vanished, the city was in ruins as far as the eye could see.
But as long as it hadn't been overtaken by plants, it meant that humanity had emerged as the victors of the war that took place a week ago.
Indeed, Ma Lu's guess was confirmed when he was soon discovered by a Holy Knight patrolling nearby.
After learning his identity, one of the Holy Knights took him to The Great Tower.
And on the way there, Ma Lu had already inquired and learned about the events of the past week in great detail.
Li Wei was really impressive; his strength wasn't just in personal power and command abilities, his political acumen was noteworthy as well.
After Ma Lu liberated the Witches, Li Wei quickly accepted the reality and even convinced the Pope to issue a statement, which legally granted Witches the same rights as any ordinary person.
This led to the Witches continuing to participate in the war. And not just any Witches—the Fallen Witches mostly joined the battle too. Li Wei also ordered the Weaponry Department to fully open up and use up the stock in storage, converting it into combat power.
That was what barely held off the attack of the Energized Plants, but it only lasted for two days. Two days later, with the appearance of high-star Energized Plants, Holy Temple City was still breached.
The Energized Plants rushed into the city, scrambling through the breach in the city wall.
Facing an overwhelming enemy, almost everyone thought all was lost, that human civilization was nearing its end.
But at that moment, some police officers who had joined the battle to support the Sacred Order of Knights and the Witches, found that their firearms suddenly started to damage those Energized Plants!
This had previously been deemed an impossibility.
Other than Witches, no one was thought to be capable of defeating or killing those Energized Plants! Such beliefs had long been carved into their hearts and minds.
However, at the most desperate hour for humanity, the Master of Order once again bestowed its favor on its followers.
It was almost like a miracle.
The police, who were originally tasked with maintaining law and order within the city, and even bodyguards took over the Witches' duties, launching a counterattack against the invaders of their homeland.
They managed not only to repel these invaders and reclaim the city, but as time passed, everyone noticed that the Energized Plants were growing weaker and weaker.
Ma Lu guessed that the so-called brittleness must have taken effect.
So, it seemed that Σ139+ did have an effect after all, although it was uncertain how fast it was spreading. But seeing how the surroundings of Holy Temple City had been cleared, with no trace of Energized Plants moving around anymore, the virus must have been spreading quite rapidly.
