Chapter 351: Radish Patch and Bread Machine
The strength of the wild monster was a bit high, or perhaps the skeleton puppet was just too weak.
After killing the ghoul, the guard saluted Ma Lu and then returned to his original position.
Ma Lu then took a few steps forward to the place where the ghoul had fallen, and picked up a pile of bones.
As he had expected, they were all of inferior quality.
These inferior bones were also the least valuable materials from the Abyss, with about 100 of them needed to exchange for a single Abyssal Blood Clam.
Afterward, Ma Lu tried fighting a few other kinds of monsters; he chose those around the outskirts of the town, so he could always run back if the situation turned sour, leaving the monsters behind for the town gate guards to deal with. Read exclusive chapters at My Virtual Library Empire
After several such attempts, one of the guards couldn't take it anymore. He volunteered to accompany Ma Lu on his monster hunts.
Ma Lu wasn't shy about accepting the offer. Not using GM privileges would be a waste, so from then on, he had an extra bodyguard whenever he went out.
Against those level 1 or 2 minor monsters, the guard could handle one with a single strike, leaving Ma Lu to just follow behind and gather materials.
Unfortunately, his bag capacity was too small, and stuffing too many items in it could affect his movement. The good news was that after continuously slaying over a dozen wild monsters, he finally got a slightly better bone.
It could increase his strength by 1 point and carrying capacity by 5 pounds, so Ma Lu immediately replaced one of his ribs.
After checking the time, he decided that was enough for the day.
He returned to Red Ridge Town, found a safe spot to log out of the game, and then drove Old Wang and Ma Youyou back home before heading to the King of Singers KTV.
This was a small KTV outside the 5th Ring, with an exterior that showed its age.
As soon as Ma Lu entered, a man in a suit greeted him. Upon learning he came alone, a knowing smile flashed across his face as he asked if Ma Lu needed someone to sing with.
Ma Lu was about to refuse, but then he remembered the man in the leather jacket once mentioning that Lao Hei had worked as a companion in a night club for a while.
And just like last time, the message about this meeting only gave a rough location.
Ma Lu wondered if Lao Hei might have gone back to her old job, so he changed his mind and asked, "Who do you have here for the singing companionship?"
The suit-wearing man perked up at the prospect of business, "What type do you prefer, boss? The innocent type or the more outgoing ones?"
Before Ma Lu could speak, a female voice came from behind him, "There's no rush for fun, let's get the serious business done first."
Turning around, Ma Lu saw that Lao Hei had somehow already positioned herself behind him.
That evening, Lao Hei wore a sailor outfit, black leather shoes, a backpack, and had her hair in a single ponytail, giving her a distinctly Japanese look.
The suit-wearing man's expression changed upon seeing her, somewhat chagrined, "It seems you already have company, boss. But remember, we are a legitimate KTV, no illegal activities in the booths, okay?"
Ma Lu wanted to explain but didn't know where to start, so he ended up saying nothing.
He silently opened a private booth at the counter and entered with Lao Hei, who went straight to the jukebox to casually pick a few songs, switched on the original sound, and then settled into the sofa.
Ma Lu sat down beside her, not rushing into business but instead asked, "How have you been all this time?"
Lao Hei first nodded, then shook her head, "So-so. Those guys are still after me; I've been continually dodging and hiding. But the good news is I should be completely safe after this week."
Ma Lu had previously guessed that there was something on Lao Hei that the Dimensional Pirates were interested in, and his current response somewhat confirmed Ma Lu's suspicions.
It sounded like the smuggling ship would also take that item with it when it departed.
However, Lao Hei had no intention of elaborating on the matter, and Ma Lu naturally did not continue to inquire about the smugglers' secrets.
After exchanging a few pleasantries, they got down to business.
Lao Hei opened his backpack and pulled out a box the size of a playing card from the inner pocket, handing it to Ma Lu.
"Here, the item you wanted."
Ma Lu took the box, opened it with high expectations, and found only a Radish Patch sticker inside.
"This is…"
"A Radish Patch."
"I know it's a Radish Patch, but what I wanted was a High-Dimensional Artifact that would allow me to carry additional items when using the Bug Egg to collect ingredients."
"This is the High-Dimensional Artifact that will allow you to carry additional items when using the Bug Egg to collect food."
Lao Hei paused for a moment, then explained, "The principle of the Radish Patch is to turn the attributes of any non-high-dimensional artifact into that of a radish, so you can stuff that item into your Collection Bag and bring it along."
"However, this Radish Patch has a slight problem, there's a chance that the items you bring will randomly lose a small part. That's why I suggest you don't carry anything too valuable. Mainly because the price you offered was too low, twenty thousand Star Currency, you only get this kind of stuff for that price."
Ma Lu turned on the flashlight mode on his phone and saw under the light that the Radish Patch was indeed missing a corner.
But this was not a problem for him, because model 6 could repair it, and next time Ma Lu could bring an extra item with him.
He was leaning towards bringing a Black Hole.
Because functionally speaking, the Black Hole was undoubtedly the strongest, and it was also extremely light. Although he had never weighed it specifically, the perceived weight should only be a few grams, not affecting the collection of ingredients at all.
Ma Lu was very satisfied with this purchase, and promptly paid the remaining 6000 Star Currency.
Having received the money, Lao Hei did not linger any longer and planned to leave. Before leaving, he asked, "Do you want me to call the backing singer in for you?"
"No, no need," replied Ma Lu, "I'm thinking of heading back too."
As he was saying this, he also stood up from the sofa. At that moment, Lao Hei's backpack suddenly lit up, shining brighter than the light bulbs in the room.
Lao Hei's expression changed, and he blurted out, "Not good, they've followed us here again!"
No sooner had he spoken than he swiftly pulled something from the backpack and thrust it into Ma Lu's hands without explanation.
"They must be thoroughly targeting me now. I'll go out and try to lead them away. Keep this item for me! I'll come back to get it later, and for the payment, let's say... 10000 Star Currency."
Without waiting for Ma Lu's response, Lao Hei had already slung his backpack over his shoulders and dashed out of the room.
As he left, he even bumped into someone in the hallway, causing a commotion, along with the sound of a wine bottle smashing on the ground.
Before any curses were heard, a ponytailed girl had already charged out of the KTV like lightning.
Ma Lu looked at the item in his hand and realized it was an old-fashioned toaster.
He did not know what was special about this toaster, but just to keep it safe, Lao Hei was willing to pay 10000 Star Currency.
This also indirectly indicated the hot potato nature of the item.
Ma Lu involuntarily grew nervous; he had seen the fierceness of the Dimensional Pirates, and today the Wandering Sorcerer was not by his side.
