Chapter 398: The Strength of the Qiu Family

Chapter Three Hundred and Ninety-Eight

When Second Lord Qiu rushed to the Qiu Family Mansion,

inside, his father, Patriarch Qiu, as well as his elder brother, and his third brother, among others, had already gathered there.

"What a fine mess you've made!" Patriarch Qiu burst out in anger as soon as he saw Second Lord Qiu walk in, slamming his walking stick down.

"Dad, I couldn't have imagined it would come to this. Who did it?" Second Lord Qiu's complexion was ashen, and he was in a foul mood. Hua Qing was his subordinate, and even though he wasn't directly involved in those affairs, Hua Qing brought in tens of millions of income for him every month.

Having heard that Hua Qing's den had been razed, with nearly all his people dead, and now that Hua Qing himself had been thrown into jail,

how could Second Lord Qiu's mood be anything but sour?

Not only was a significant source of income gone, there was a chance he might get implicated as well.

Patriarch Qiu said icily, "I've told you time and again to stay out of those affairs, but you wouldn't listen. For the sake of that bit of money, you've put our Qiu Family in such a passive position."

"Younger brother, you ought to pull yourself together. At your age, you should be handling matters with more steadiness," Qiu Family's eldest brother Qiu Haitang admonished.

Second Lord Qiu frowned, his eyes holding a touch of defiance. What did they mean by that bit of money? That was an income of hundreds of millions a year! And when he gave them their share, he never heard any complaints. But once trouble arose, they blamed it all on him. And you, Qiu Haitang, most of the family assets are under your control. I get so little each month; of course, I have to make some extra on the side.

But he knew that now was not the time to talk back. He would need the family's help to smooth things over, so he pleaded humbly, "Dad, what's done is done, let's figure out a way to resolve this first. I promise I won't get involved in this kind of business anymore."

"I've already greased the wheels from top to bottom. Now it's a matter of getting that Hua Qing to confess and not drag our Qiu Family into this, but the one who moved against us this time is no ordinary individual—it's Long Xiaoshan," Patriarch Qiu said, squinting his eyes.

"Long Xiaoshan..." Second Lord Qiu paused for a moment before catching on, "Is it that leader of some commerce chamber in the city?"

As someone from the upper echelons, he naturally had heard of Long Xiaoshan's identity.

"That's the one."

"Damn it, we haven't crossed paths with him, and now he's angling for trouble! He really thinks he can do whatever he pleases in Hechuan City's territory just because he's the 'Dragon Head.'" Second Lord Qiu's expression turned fierce.

"This kid must have some skills to become the 'Dragon Head' of the commerce chamber, but it would be laughable for him to mistake our Qiu Family for someone like Wang Sihai."

Patriarch Qiu's tone also turned chilly.

In Hechuan City, Zhou Yushan, Wang Sihai, they are all significant figures, controlling assets worth billions.

On the surface, they seem to overshadow the Qiu Family.

But, only a very few are aware that the likes of Wang Sihai cannot compare to the Qiu Family, much like those new IT tycoons and internet moguls who suddenly appear on the Forbes lists, seemingly splendid on the surface. Yet when compared with the truly low-profile noble families, they are not on the same level at all.

Maybe, on the surface, they don't have as many assets as these tycoons, but the disparity in power and status is immense.

The Qiu Family is one such ancient lineage. At the very least, in Hechuan City, the Qiu Family has been around for many years, existing long before the liberation, and as the decades have passed, many tycoons have risen and fallen while only the Qiu Family has remained. Many say that the Qiu Family's strength can rank in the top five in the city, but they are confident that in Hechuan City, they are undoubtedly number one.

"Dad, should we teach him a lesson, or just kill him outright?" Second Lord Qiu suggested menacingly.

Patriarch Qiu said coldly, "It's not as simple as that. This kid made it to 'Dragon Head' through real combat, even killing a Huang Level Peak expert. Such a person, our Qiu Family does not fear, but nor do we wish to provoke without reason. Let's first suppress this incident, send him a message, and see his response. If he lets it go, then so be it."

Second Lord Qiu was very annoyed because Long Xiaoshan had destroyed all his money-making schemes.

He used to bully others; when was it ever his turn to be the one to cower at home after someone smashed his place? If it were anyone else, he would have already wiped out their entire family.

But he also knew that a person capable of killing a Huang Level Peak expert was not someone the Qiu Family could easily deal with without suffering losses, even though they were not afraid.

"All right, disperse for now. Second, from today on, you're to stay at home. Without my permission, you're not allowed to set foot outside the house," Patriarch Qiu said with a cold snort.

"Yes, Dad," Qiu the Second said, dejected.

After the Qiu family members dispersed.

Qiu Haitang returned to his own courtyard within the sizable Qiu Family Mansion, a place so large that each brother had his own separate courtyard,

Just as he entered, he ran into someone about to leave and frowned, "Where are you going now?"

A young man with a bandage tied around his head turned and said, "I'm going out to clear my head."

"Hmph, I think you just want to go out and look for trouble, always acting up and jealous. With the family in trouble recently, you better stay home and behave, don't be a damn fool like your Second Uncle," Qiu Haitang scolded.

"Dad, I'm going back to school for class. Besides, after being beaten, you're still scolding me," Qiu Chen said unhappily.

"Haitang, you too. Chen'er has been beaten so badly, and you don't help him yet scold him instead," a woman decked in jewels came out and complained.

"Hmph!" Qiu Haitang let out a cold huff but said nothing.

Although he scolded his son verbally, deep down he was also very angry. Qiu Chen was his only son, and in Hechuan City, to have his son's nose broken and slapped a dozen times was a direct insult to the Qiu Family's dignity.

However, with Qiu the Second recently causing trouble and many deaths, the Qiu Family was somewhat on the back foot, so it was best to keep a low profile and not let his son go out and stir up more trouble.

"Alright, Chen'er, you go back to school first," the woman hinted to Qiu Chen with her eyes.

"Yes, Mom," Qiu Chen quickly walked out.

Qiu Haitang raised his hand, thought better of it, and ultimately did not stop him. The Qiu Family wasn't afraid of a little more trouble amidst much turmoil, saying, "Just don't kill anyone."

He knew his son's character all too well; there was no way he was actually going back to school to dutifully attend classes.

"Dad, I know,"

Qiu Chen ran off so fast that he disappeared from view.

Outside, a black car was already waiting; Qiu Chen got in. Two young men were sitting inside the car. Turning around, one asked, "Qiu Shao, what do we do now?"

Almost all of Qiu Chen's face was covered by bandages, but his eyes betrayed a vindictive gleam as he said viciously, "First, go to the school and drag that wretched woman out. She dares to hit me; I'll wreck her first, then lure that bastard out and cripple his three legs, make sure he can't touch a woman for the rest of his life. Have you got the people together?"

"Rest assured, this time we've got guns. Can that punk fight better than a gun?"

"Haha," Qiu Chen laughed wildly, "Good. If you handle this well, I'll give you a million."
