Narrator POV
Three days had passed since the Gate over Seoul had opened, releasing the older soldiers of Ashborne's army. And in that time, many press networks had tried to do something that was difficult as of current, which was getting some of Sung Jin-Woo's time. But they weren't the only ones that were frantic at this point, as the USA's Bureau of Hunters was frantically trying to get Sung Jin Woo's location from Korea's Hunter Association.
They would have tried getting to the Dominion Guild, but all their efforts to do so were futile, as Dante and Shiraori had also chosen to remain silent on the matter. As of now, this was the greatest headache plaguing the Hunter Association, as Dante had informed Seoul's Disaster Response Headquarters that the city was safe and all those that evacuated could return with peaceful minds, so that didn't take up much of their time.
As for Sung Jin-Woo, he had chosen to utilize the opportunity that Dante's presence had given him, and had asked him to create another World Instance so that he could increase the size of his current army, to which Dante was happy to oblige, giving him one with a 1:30 time dilation field.
And so, for what was essentially the past 90 days, he had been hunting non-stop, which had caused the numbers of his army to balloon to over a hundred million monsters, with the weakest of them being at the level of the replica of Baran from the Demon Castle. The number of dragons in his army had gone over a thousand, and the monsters with the greatest population in his army were the insectoids, with the beasts being a close second.
This did not mean that the older soldiers from Ashborne's army had been overtaken in power by the new soldiers. On the contrary, they had all grown even more powerful, with Bellion now being strong enough to easily match someone like Tarnak.
Beru, Igris and Baruka all relinquished the position of Grand Marshal and right-hand man to Sung Jin-Woo after being defeated by him in one-on-one duels. Tusk had also taken the chance to let the dragons of Ashborne's army know that they won't be able to match his pure destructive power.
This was made even more apparent by the fact that he, along with a few other shadow soldiers, had gotten their main weapons enhanced by Dante.
The Orb of Avarice that Tusk normally uses had been enhanced to give a 250% increase to all magic cast by its user, and it had even been forged into a large staff, with the orb as the head. The staff was designed to have a dragon's head as its head, with the orb held within its gaping mouth.
Dante enhanced the Demon King's Longsword that Igris used, increasing its base attack, and amplifying its lightning abilities. He also strengthened Iron's war-hammer and shield; giving the shield the ability to absorb energy, which it can accumulate and release as a powerful shockwave, and the hammer the Combo ability possessed by Derieri from The Seven Deadly Sins.
As for Baruka, he gave his daggers an ability called Frostbite, which made it so that whenever he landed an attack with them, the being he attacked would have their speed reduced by 15% and their body invaded by a bone-chilling cold. And to make it even more powerful, the effect stacked.
Through all of their activity, Sung Jin-Woo made some time to ask Bellion about his time with Ashborne, and he learned a somewhat interesting fact. The Soldiers of the Sky, which are the Rulers' soldiers, were all born from fruits of the World Tree.
But through all that, a singular thought plagued him. 'I wonder how they'll feel when they hear that Hunters were meant to be survivors rather than warriors.' He understood the power, and therefore, the threat that Antares and his army posed to Earth, even without the other Monarchs' armies, but the rest of the world didn't.
So, before exiting the World Instance, he met with Dante and Shiraori, and asked them to help him out when he would make the reveal to the rest of the world, to which they calmly agreed. After another day outside, he returned to his home and did something that stood out like a sore thumb. He cooked, and quite well at that.
While Sung Jin-Ah was reveling in the taste of the meal, Park Kyung-Hye and Sung Il-Hwan looked at Sung Jin-Woo with worry. "There's nothing to worry about. After all, Dante's been helping us out, and more importantly… Eat up already! Are you trying to make my efforts go to waste?" Sung Jin-Woo said animatedly, hoping to allay them of some of their worries.
He suddenly halted his movement, then went to his room, which surprised Park Kyung-Hye and Sung Jin-Ah, but not Sung Il-Hwan. He came out a minute later, letting them know that he had been called to the Hunter Association's building. His mother and sister didn't argue, despite the fact that they didn't hear anything, while his father nodded in understanding, as his enhanced senses picked up the sounds of the vibration of his phone and the short conversation he had with Go Gun-Hee.
As he stepped outside their home, Sung Il-Hwan followed him, and he used Shadow Exchange to teleport the both of them to Go Gun-Hee's office, where the Chief Inspector of the Hunter Association's Monitoring Department, Woo Jin-Chul, was also present.
"Show us." Sung Jin-Woo said curtly, and Go Gun-Hee pushed a button on his desk, starting up the projector in the room. The projection it showed had a crowd of people on a road, with a gargantuan Gate the likes of the one that Ashborne's army came out of hanging in the sky above them.
"It's a Colossal Gate that was filmed in Shanghai, China. Seven others like it opened around the globe, almost simultaneously." Woo Jin-Chul said, then looked at Sung Jin-Woo with a questioning gaze. "Hunter Sung Jin-Woo, are these perhaps…?" "No." Sung Jin-Woo answered him before he even finished asking his question.
"Those Gates hold the armies of the other Monarchs." They suddenly heard Dante's voice, and a heartbeat later, he and Shiraori teleported into the room. "And they're all gonna be led by Antares and his generals." Shiraori said, then sat in one of the chairs.
Woo Jin-Chul heard all this and looked at Go Gun-Hee with shock and disbelief in his eyes, as if asking him to confirm or deny their statements. Go Gun-Hee nodded solemnly, confirming Woo Jin-Chul's fears.
"I know that it may seem absurd, but it is the truth." Sung Jin-Woo said, then put a finger to Woo Jin-Chul's forehead, showing him the memories of Antares' army that he had received from Ashborne. After a few seconds, Woo Jin-Chul drew in a sharp breath as his face was wet with sweat.
He couldn't believe what was shown to him. Throughout the time that Hunters had been present, he had believed that they were special people given power by God to protect humanity, but what was just shown to him shattered that view. Hunters, or rather, the Awakeners, were merely meant to be the ones to survive the aftereffects of the war between the Monarchs and the Rulers.
But that wasn't what gave him the greatest pause. "Hunter Sung… are you planning to fight such beings alone?" He asked. "Yes." Sung Jin-Woo replied curtly. "Then how… No. Can we even help?" Woo Jin-Chul asked, still trying to catch his breath.
"Yeah. That's why we're here, after all." Dante said, then told Go Gun-Hee and Woo Jin-Chul to contact all the other nations for a conference on the information about the new Colossal Gates.
…
Location: Crack Between Dimensions.
A red-haired man wearing a reddish-silver armor sat on a throne, wearing a stoic, yet irate expression on his face. "To think that the Shadow Monarch would betray me in this way… I truly didn't expect it, especially from him." He said with a level tone. As he spoke, a massive dragon claw tore into the ground beside his throne.
"All the others are dead now, so only their armies remain." He said as he went into thought. A small smile made its way onto his face, then he spoke. "My soldiers. Prepare for war." As he said that, a cacophony of rumbling growls resounded in the air. "You've made your choice, Shadow Monarch. Now, let's see if you'll be able to live with it."
…
It had been two days after Dante gave Go Gun-Hee and Woo Jin-Chul the instruction to call the other nations, and since then, 163 countries had responded to the call, with the others choosing not to involve themselves. And so, all of these countries' representatives were currently in a hall, awaiting Sung Jin-Woo, Shiraori and Dante's arrival.
Woo Jin-Chul called them to let them know that the representatives had arrived, and shortly after, they teleported into the hall, not far from him. With their appearance, the conference could finally begin.
In the conference hall, despite the number of people, it was silent, as the representatives present didn't want to miss even a sliver of the information that was going to be given to them. If the people who gave them the information of the Monarchs existing had come across knowledge regarding the Colossal Gates and were going out of their way to give this knowledge out, refusing it would be foolish. They also hoped that they would tell them that it was something small that would pass over easily.
When the clock hit 3:00, Sung Jin-Woo walked onto the podium, and the first words out of his mouth were the exact opposite of what they were hoping to hear. "This will be a tough time for everyone. No one can avoid this battle, and the monsters that will come this time will appear in front of your eyes and destroy everything." If their hopes were a blazing fire before, they had been reduced to a candle flame.
"Hundreds of monsters more powerful than Kamish will appear, and even National Rank Hunters would be reduced to cannon fodder." He said, practically stamping out their hopes with his words. "However, this doesn't mean that we can't survive." He said, reigniting a sliver of hope in them.
"How? How could we survive such monsters?" One of the representatives asked, desperate for hope. "That is where we come in." Dante said, as he and Shiraori teleported onto the podium. "We've made preparations for this already. So the only thing that everyone else has to do is to stay as far away from the Gates as possible. My soldiers will go everywhere and place protective barriers, so this way, the damage will be kept to a minimum." He said, bringing out Andern, the deathborn he made from Yogumunt.
"You said that the last two Monarchs would fight each other. We would like to know who the Shadow Monarch is." A representative from Brazil said. "Well, you're looking right at him." Dante said as he pointed to Sung Jin-Woo, who waved his hand, opening multiple Gates on the podium. The fact that the one being that was confirmed to be their ally had been right in front of them provided an admittedly great deal of relief to the representatives.
"If anyone feels that our words are not enough, then I'll give them a chance to back up their skepticism." Sung Jin-Woo said, then closed the Gates. "I have multiple dragons on Kamish's level, including Kamish himself. I will send one to each of the countries with a Colossal Gate, and if the Hunters who are skeptic of our words feel like it, they are free to attack them. To give them more of a chance, the dragons will not have any other shadows giving them backup. If they are able to defeat the dragon without difficulty, then they are free to stay near the Gate, otherwise, they should stay as far away from them as possible." He said, his face holding a steeled gaze.
And so, when the representatives returned to their respective nations, they made sure to spread the message to every part of their nation, leaving no one out. And just like the Dominion Guild members had expected, skeptics began to pop up here and there, the most prominent of them being Canada's Jay Mills, one of the stronger, more famous S Rank Hunters in Canada.
He rallied a large number of Hunters and civilians behind him to attack the dragon that Sung Jin-Woo had placed at the Colossal Gate in Canada, which just so happened to be Kamish. When he saw that the dragon was the one regarded as humanity's greatest calamity, he smiled, feeling that bringing Kamish down would make other nations' Hunters see him as someone with power at similar levels to that of a National Rank Hunter.
To him, this was just another chance to build up his reputation, and one to bring down Sung Jin-Woo's credibility. To Kamish, however, this was a waste of time. When Kamish noticed that there were no more humans joining the crowd in front of him, he stood up, reared his head back, then let out a roar that shook the earth. This was no mere roar. This was Kamish using the skill that made him such a threat when he emerged in the US, Dragon's Fear.
Without exception, every human, awakened or not, went into an intense panic as they felt their bodies and instincts seize up and scream at them, telling them that death was near and inevitable. But despite them being immobilized, Kamish made no further moves to attack them.
While the people were stuck in their despaired state, a small portal opened in front of Kamish, and Dante walked out of it with a disappointed expression on his face. He sighed, then snapped his fingers, teleporting every single human from the area to hospitals multiple cities away. "Now, you've seen how easily one dragon can take down a nation's Hunter population. Imagine a hundred of those. Can you keep deceiving yourselves into thinking you actually have a chance?" He said to seemingly no one, then walked through the portal once more, leaving Kamish there to watch over the Gate, until the day that Antares would invade Earth.
