Transmigrated Become Sukuna, but the host is Yukinoshita Yukino?

Chapter 137: Chapter 137: The Last Night of the Training Camp

A few elementary schoolers ran back in tears, frantically surrounding the most reliable person in their eyes, Hayama Hayato.

Even Tsurumi Rumi, looking anxious, came to Hikigaya Hachiman's side.

She didn't like Hayama Hayato; Hikigaya Hachiman was the person who used to be around Yukinoshita, and Tsurumi Rumi instinctively felt he was more reliable than Hayama Hayato.

"What happened?"

Although Hayama Hayato was puzzled, he still put on a gentle smile and voice to comfort the children.

"Don't panic, just speak slowly, it's fine."

"In the forest... there are, there are monsters!"

"That's so scary!"

"A monster with four hands and four eyes, we almost got eaten!"

"Luckily, it was standing still, staring into space. That's how we managed to escape!"

The little ones each spoke up, chattering and crying, but what they said left Hayama Hayato confused: "A monster with four eyes and four hands? You're joking, right?"

Standing nearby, Hikigaya Hachiman couldn't help but sweat when he heard the elementary school kids' cries.

He knew exactly what the four-eyed monster was, but the four hands were beyond his expectations. He guessed it must be Hayashizaki pretending to be a monster to scare them.

Speaking of which, Hayashizaki really did go and scare the kids...

"They're telling the truth!"

Tsurumi Rumi clutched the hem of Hikigaya Hachiman's shirt, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Ah, I know."

Hikigaya Hachiman glanced down briefly, then quickly lifted his head to continue watching Hayama Hayato calm the four little girls.

"It's true, that monster... huh?"

Tsurumi Rumi, who was trying to figure out how to convince Hikigaya Hachiman, froze halfway through her explanation.

"You believe what I'm saying?"

"Of course, but that wasn't a monster. It was our teacher in disguise," Hikigaya Hachiman explained, although he felt that this explanation sounded pretty weak.

"...You're lying!"

Tsurumi Rumi furrowed her brows, scrunching her nose and saying firmly, "The costumes worn by the older students on the way here were so cheap, there's no way a monster like that would suddenly appear in such a realistic disguise!"

This kid... not cute at all!

Hikigaya Hachiman started to sweat more.

"So, it's mostly the makeup that created the effect. The monster you saw, didn't it have four eyes and black markings on its face?"

The dead-eyed boy tried to convince her.

"How do you know that?"

Tsurumi Rumi widened her eyes.

"Wait until our teacher comes back, and you'll understand."

Hikigaya Hachiman shrugged, then added, "He did his makeup in secret. Only me and Yukinoshita know about it."

"Really?"

The little girl looked at him with doubt.

Hayama Hayato was still trying to calm down the four scared girls, even though he didn't believe the monster with four eyes and four hands they described existed.

The bonfire party had started, and the other elementary school kids were already gathering in groups to dance around the huge bonfire, with lively music playing from the speakers brought by the staff.

Tsurumi Rumi and Hikigaya Hachiman sat on the steps nearby. Although the four girls' emotions had settled down, they still weren't in the mood to join the dance after being so frightened. They sat sulking, watching the others dance.

"Hmm?"

Hikigaya Hachiman, who was bored and looking around, suddenly focused his gaze. He noticed one of the four girls who had earlier excluded Tsurumi Rumi was looking over at them frequently.

I think her name is... Yuka?

Is something going on?

A hint of doubt crossed Hikigaya Hachiman's mind.

Not long after, two figures slowly walked toward the entrance of the Daredevil Challenge route. Upon noticing Hayashizaki and Yukinoshita Yukino returning, Hikigaya Hachiman pointed in their direction and said to TsurumiRumi, "Look, is that the monster you were talking about?"

The black-haired little girl had been exchanging glances with Yukari from a distance. Upon hearing Hikigaya Hachiman's reminder, she instinctively turned her head and followed his finger.

In the next moment, her dark pupils contracted like pinpricks, and a look of terror appeared on her face, as though the four-eyed, four-armed monster had appeared before her again.

"Ah... ah!"

"Wait, wait!"

She was about to scream, but Hikigaya Hachiman, looking panicked, quickly covered her mouth. Heaven knows what others would think if this child suddenly screamed next to him...

Honestly, he had been thinking with the assumption that he'd be misunderstood, he thought to himself.

The boy with dead-fish eyes muttered inwardly, reminding her, "You should take a good look at Hayashizaki-sensei first."

A large hand covered her mouth, and warmth spread to her cheek. Tsurumi Rumi gradually calmed down and carefully studied Hayashizaki's appearance.

It suddenly occurred to her that she had seen this handsome young man with black hair near Yukinoshita at the beginning of the summer camp, but she hadn't realized he was so young and already a teacher.

As for the four-eyed, four-armed monster she had seen in front of the forest shrine, she had not clearly seen its face due to the moonlight being blocked and the dim surroundings. But she knew the figure was towering, and in front of it, she felt as small as a chick waiting to be slaughtered.

Hayashizaki-sensei was tall too, but somehow, he didn't seem as towering as the monster from earlier.

"...Is it really the same person?"

The little girl furrowed her brow, trying hard to recall the appearance of the monster.

However, no matter how she tried, all that came to mind were those two pairs of eyes glowing a deep crimson.

"Yo, what's wrong?"

While Tsurumi Rumi was deep in thought, Hayashizaki and Yukinoshita Yukino had walked up to them. The former lowered his head and met the little girl's gaze.

Those ruby-like eyes slowly aligned with the two pairs of eyes TsurumiRumi had seen in her memory.

"Mm!"

The little girl's pupils widened in shock. She couldn't help but point at Hayashizaki and stammer, "It... it's really you?"

"Sorry, sorry, I scared you."

Hayashizaki smiled apologetically and reached out to pat her head.

His deep voice was surprisingly gentle, and the warmth of his hand on her head brought a sense of comfort, as though nothing could harm her as long as she stayed by this person's side.

"Ah! It's the monster from the forest!"

Yuka, who had been paying close attention to Tsurumi Rumi, suddenly shouted and pointed toward Hayashizaki.

Unlike Tsurumi Rumi, who faced Hayashizaki directly, the four little girls on the side saw the monster's appearance clearly under the moonlight. The appearance matched exactly with Hayashizaki.

"...It really is, but without those scary black patterns."

"And no four eyes."

"And no four hands."

The four little girls chattered, then came to a conclusion: "So, that monster was just pretending!?"

At their age, children's emotions changed quickly. Once they were sure their lives weren't in danger, their fear was quickly replaced by curiosity. They quickly gathered around Hayashizaki.

"Big brother, was the four-eyed, four-armed monster in the forest just you pretending?"

One of the girls, named Hitomi, asked boldly.

"It was me, but I'm not 'big brother,' I'm 'sensei,'" Hayashizaki answered with a gentle smile, not at all acting superior to the young students.

"Hey, hey! Are the black lines on your face and the extra pair of eyes makeup?"

"Yes, but I've already wiped them off."

"What about the extra pair of arms?"

"They're a secret prop, I hid them."

"Sensei, you look so young! How old are you? Do you have a girlfriend?"

The kindness in the young man's voice made the elementary schoolers' courage grow, and their questions started to take a strange turn.

Hayashizaki chuckled and gently flicked the forehead of the one who asked the last question, Komori. "You little brat, go play."

"Okay~!"

Once their curiosity was satisfied, they quickly turned their attention elsewhere and ran off to join the bonfire party.

But after not much time, Yukari suddenly returned, looking a bit hesitant and shy. She finally took Tsurumi Rumi's wrist. "Tsurumi, come join us?"

"Huh? Me?"

Tsurumi Rumi blinked in confusion, seemingly surprised that Yukari would invite her along.

"Yes, yes! Let's go dance together!"

Without waiting for an answer, Yukari pulled her along, and Tsurumi hesitantly followed.

They rejoined Hitomi and the others. After exchanging a few words with them, they apologized to the black-haired girl, bowing together. Tsurumi Rumi looked a bit lost. After a few seconds of hesitation, she nervously nodded, her face breaking into a smile.

"Looks like they've made up."

Hikigaya Hachiman, watching from a distance, was surprised. He curiously asked, "What happened during the dare game?"

"Hayashizaki-kun transformed into his second form. When they were getting their charms and preparing to leave, he went out to scare them. Tsurumi stood frozen in front of him, but then the little girl named Yuka threw a stone at Hayashizaki-kun to get his attention, and that allowed Tsurumi to escape."

Yukinoshita Yukino explained.

"That actually happened?"

Hikigaya Hachiman widened his eyes in surprise. To him, when facing fear, a person should only care about themselves and show their ugliest side, without any thought for others.

What shocked him even more was that the elementary schoolers still had the courage to throw stones at Hayashizaki, even though he was in some scary second form they had never seen.

Back when he first joined the Service Club, Hayashizaki had only released a little of his aura, and Hachiman was so terrified that he couldn't move and fell off his chair in a mess.

Was he worse than elementary school girls?

The boy with dead fish eyes fell into deep self-doubt.

But because Hayashizaki had restrained his presence in the forest, to the girls, he was just a scary-looking monster and didn't cause any life-threatening fear.

Otherwise, getting knocked out from fear would have been the least of their worries.

"Well, as long as the result is good."

Hayashizaki looked toward the children laughing around the big bonfire, a slight smile spreading on his face.

"Yeah, because someone almost scared them silly."

Yukinoshita Yukino said in a somewhat teasing tone, and Hayashizaki's smile froze for a moment before turning into an awkward grin. "One should think things through before acting, Hayashizaki-kun."

"You're absolutely right."

Hayashizaki said respectfully.

For once, the black-haired girl had the upper hand in their conversation, and her lips involuntarily curled up. Even her head tilted slightly higher, exposing her long, graceful neck in a way that looked almost proud but also very cute.

While the three were chatting and laughing, footsteps approached, accompanied by a cheerful voice: "Looks like they've made up."

The three turned their heads, and Hayama Hayato greeted Teuchi with a wave before slightly bowing toward Hayashizaki, showing proper etiquette.

"Yukinoshita-san is really amazing. It's so great that she was able to help them make up."

He sighed with admiration.

Perhaps because it was a happy event, Yukinoshita Yukino didn't seem bothered by Hayama Hayato's unsolicited remark.

She turned her gaze to Tsurumi Rumi, who was dancing the folk dance with Yuka, and calmly said, "I didn't do anything. Tsurumi did it all herself."

"Is that so? But I still think that without your help, Yukinoshita-san, Tsurumi Rumi wouldn't have changed."

Hayama Hayato wore a happy smile on his face. He was genuinely glad that Tsurumi Rumi had been freed from her isolation.

"If only I could be like you..."

He looked toward the bonfire, still smiling, but his voice, when it came out, sounded as faint as a breeze.

"Everyone has things they can't do. You don't need to worry about things that happened before. It doesn't matter, I've already let it go."

Yukinoshita Yukino's tone was flat, her gaze distant.

"Look forward, Hayama."

This was her final advice to him.

Hayama Hayato left, and judging by the expression on his face, he seemed a bit down.

"By the way, Hayama has really changed in class."

After a brief silence, Hikigaya Hachiman suddenly spoke up.

"How has he changed?"

"I'm not sure exactly, but he seems more genuine now?"

Hikigaya Hachiman tried to organize his thoughts, trying to express what he had observed during his idle moments in class. "If the old Hayama wanted to control everything around him, maintaining a perfect, fake peace with everyone, the current Hayama doesn't seem to want to keep doing that."

"But he still subconsciously tries to maintain those fake relationships, which makes him seem awkward, stuck in between, and kind of annoying."

He openly expressed his dislike for Hayama Hayato, as if they were simply incompatible.

"Change isn't something you can just do because you want to."

Yukinoshita Yukino looked at the rising flames of the bonfire and sighed, almost to herself.

Under the bonfire, the boys' and girls' faces glowed red, their cheerful laughter mixed with the sounds of summer insects, echoing far into the distance.
