Chapter 2: First Encounter with Iron Man
"Uh, are you sure you're not in the wrong movie set?" Tony couldn't help but quip as he looked at the armor-clad Tohka. "And how did a little girl like you even get in here? Hurry up and leave. We'll figure a way out on our own."
Alright, no matter what, Tony was still a good guy—his first instinct was to tell Tohka to escape. However, while he might have overlooked something, Dr. Yinsen hadn't.
From behind Tohka, Yinsen noticed the numerous terrorists lying on the ground, unable to get back up. He now had a general idea of her strength.
"Tony, let's go. As for the armor, just blow it up. We absolutely can't leave it for these terrorists."
"You can't seriously think that… Fine, let's do it your way."
Tony had wanted to say something else, but then it hit him that the armored girl in front of him had stormed in single-handedly.
"Follow me. The ones inside are no longer a threat, but I can't vouch for the ones outside. Be careful—they have heavy weapons."
"Got it. Let's move."
At this point, Tony didn't hesitate any longer. He immediately found a few explosives and planted them around the workshop.
Then he grabbed a few firearms from the fallen terrorists, slung them over his shoulder, and followed Tohka.
As for the terrorists on the ground, Tony shot anyone who could still lift a gun without hesitation.
He ignored those too injured to even pick up their weapons.
Watching this, Tohka frowned slightly but didn't say anything. She had no sympathy for these butchers, though her instincts from her previous life made her uncomfortable with the scene.
"Stay close to me; my protective shield doesn't cover a large area." As they neared the exit, Tohka stopped the two men from rushing out and gave them a reminder.
If her guess was right, the outside was likely already fortified. After all, she hadn't gone all out before, and most of the enemies hadn't sustained fatal injuries, meaning they could still mount a counterattack.
Originally, they should have stayed hidden in the cave, but Tohka worried the structure might not hold up against the enemy's firepower and could collapse. So, she decided to take them along instead.
"A protective shield? What kind of tech is that?" As a technological genius, Tony assumed Tohka was using some advanced gadget.
"Careful, step back a bit." The moment they stepped outside, Tohka saw the enemy's lineup, which included several heavy weapons.
What made Tony feel worse was that many of these weapons bore Stark Industries logos.
"FIRE!" The terrorist leader immediately gave the order to attack upon seeing the three of them, and a barrage of firepower rained down on them.
Seeing themselves engulfed in the gunfire, the two men instinctively ducked and covered their heads, while Tohka remained unfazed.
"Tch, just toys." Tohka scoffed coldly. She raised her hand slightly, summoning a protective shield to cover everyone.
Despite the intense firepower, Tohka's shield showed no signs of breaking.
"What kind of tech is this? No, wait, the energy required to block all this firepower must be enormous. But you're not carrying any power source… Could it be…?"
"Enough, stop talking."
Tohka was certain that Tony was probably imagining dissecting her for research. Seriously, at a time like this, he was still thinking about that? As expected of a genius—his brain worked differently.
"Enough already. Take this!" Watching as the group was pinned down by the relentless gunfire, Tohka's patience had run out.
She drew her celestial sword, Mirashō, and with a slight swing, a wave of blue-purple energy swept across, destroying all the heavy weapons in its path.
"Let's go. They can't stop me now." Intimidated by Tohka's overwhelming attack, all the terrorists hid behind cover, not daring to poke their heads out.
But there was always an idiot. The leader of the group jumped out, wildly firing his gun at Tohka and the others, while shouting frantically.
"This guy's the leader? Thanks for all the trouble," Tony said, practically radiating killing intent. As soon as the man emptied his magazine, Tony picked up his submachine gun and fired a burst at him.
What Tohka hadn't mentioned was that her shield was one-way: external attacks couldn't penetrate, but anything inside could pass through.
But she decided against explaining this to a scientist like Tony. It would just lead to endless questions and confusion.
"Phew, let's go. Looks like I've got a decision to make when I get back." After taking down the leader, Tony nodded in satisfaction, finally relieved. He had also made up his mind to announce something to the world once he returned to the U.S.
Without their leader, the terrorists were like a disorganized mob, too scared to step up. They could only watch helplessly as the group walked farther and farther away.
"Alright, now tell me—where's the rescue?" Once they were far from the terrorists' base, Tony suddenly realized they weren't actually safe yet.
Without any transportation, they were stranded in the middle of a vast desert. The heat was unbearable now, and in a few hours, the freezing cold would take over.
"Oh, right. I have no idea how to get out either." Hearing Tony's question, Tohka tilted her head innocently, her tone as if she'd just realized something obvious.
"Ahhh! Great job. Now we're all doomed." Tony looked at Tohka, who seemed obliviously enlightened, and felt like banging his head against a wall.
How had his luck gotten this bad? First, he'd been kidnapped, and now that he'd just escaped, he ran into this top-tier airhead.
"Um, Tony, considering your disappearance, the U.S. military must be on edge by now," Dr. Yinsen calmly analyzed.
"Oh yeah, you're right. Now that you mention it, they're probably searching for me in the area where I went missing."
"But we don't have any communication tools. How are we supposed to contact them? We destroyed the terrorists' base earlier—don't tell me we have to go back there."
"That won't be necessary. Oh, by the way, miss, what should I call you?" It was only then that Tony realized he didn't even know Tohka's name.
"Tohka. Yatogami Tohka."
After all, the focus is on the older book. I'll do my best with this new one.
