Thick Of It

Chapter 65: Miracle

The scene in the Department of Mysteries was chaotic and grim. Dust hung in the air from the countless spells ricocheting off stone walls, and the room was a cacophony of shouts, clashes, and spell impacts. The Order of the Phoenix was battling valiantly, their wands flashing like strobes of light, but the tide of the fight had shifted. Death Eaters, pushed into a corner earlier, were now rallying, and the battle was far from over.

Among the young group—Hermione, Ron, Neville, Ginny, and Luna—there was a dreadful stillness. The world around them seemed to fade into the background as they stood frozen, staring at the spot where Sirius had fallen. The flicker of the killing curse still burned in their minds.

Hermione's hand trembled as she gripped her wand. Her sharp mind, always brimming with plans and strategies, was blank.

Hermione: [hoarsely] "He's… he's gone."

Ron stood beside her, his face pale and his freckles standing out starkly.

Ron: [whispering, as if not believing it himself] "Sirius… he's dead."

Ginny and Neville were stock-still, their shock mirrored in wide eyes and trembling lips. Luna, for once, wasn't murmuring about Nargles . Her usually dreamy expression was replaced by one of quiet devastation.

Then Harry bolted.

Hermione: "Harry, no!"

But it was too late. He was already gone, chasing after Bellatrix Lestrange like a man possessed.

Neville: [panicking] "What do we do now?"

Before anyone could respond, a sound cut through the tension—a soft whooshing noise growing louder and louder. The door through which they had entered burst open, revealing Jason, riding on a flying carpet.

The chaos in the room had reached its peak when Jason swooped in on the carpet. Death Eaters, preoccupied with their fights against the Order of the Phoenix and the young group of Hogwarts students, turned to see the unexpected entrance. Jason's sudden arrival was a shock to all sides.

Lupin :"Bloody hell!" .

"Jason!" Hermione gasped, her eyes wide with astonishment as she and Ron emerged from their hiding spot.

Jason's Sharingan flared to life, its two tomoe spinning ominously in his eyes. Time seemed to slow down for him, giving him an edge as he assessed the room. Five Death Eaters. Positions noted. Movements anticipated. A "Crucio!" spell aimed at him was already in motion.

Jason sidestepped effortlessly, his radar sense guiding him out of harm's way before the spell could strike. Without hesitation, he cast a spell, "SHADOW CLONE" summoning shadow clones that mirrored his movements. The clones, indistinguishable from the original, joined the fight immediately.

Two Death Eaters, distracted and unaware of Jason's skill, were disarmed simultaneously as Jason fired off "Expelliarmus!" and his clone landed a swift, bone-jarring punch, giving Moody time to stun death eater with a "Stupefy!" in perfect synchrony. Their wands clattered to the ground. Jason's clones vanished, taking hits meant for him.

Across the room, Moody and Andromeda Tonks, freed from their bindings, fought with the ferocity of seasoned Aurors. Moody's curses were precise and brutal, while Andromeda's spells carried a fluid elegance, pushing back the Death Eaters with ease.

Moody : "Impressive, boy!" , a rare compliment from the hardened Auror.

Jason ducked as three more spells narrowly missed him. His carpet swooped low, giving him an advantage as he sent another Death Eater flying with a powerful "Repulso!"

The room became a battleground of light and sound as spells collided. With the Death Eaters now outnumbered and disorganized, the Order with their numbers quickly overpowered the remaining attackers.

The battle subsided, leaving only the sound of heavy breathing and the faint hum of dissipating magic. Jason turned his attention to the still body of Sirius, lying lifeless on the cold stone floor. Lupin, kneeling beside his fallen friend, looked stricken, his face a mask of grief.

Jason: [urgently] "How much time has passed?"

Lupin: [confused] "What?"

Jason: [snapping] "He's been hit by Avada Kedavra. I know. But how much time has passed since it hit him?"

Moody, stepping closer with a grim expression, growled.

Moody: "Roughly two minutes. What difference does it make? He's gone, boy."

Ron came storming in, his face red with anger.

Ron: "Get away from him, you traitor!"

Jason: [firmly] "Not the time, Weasley. There's still time "

Moody: [barking] "Shut it, Weasley. Let the boy work."

Jason turned back to Lupin, his tone softening.

Jason: "You have to trust me. I can save him."

Lupin: [desperate, clutching Jason's arm] "You can? I'll do anything. Just tell me what to do."

Jason: "You'll need to give up half your life force. No hesitation. You have forty seconds to decide—after that, nothing can save him."

Lupin didn't hesitate.

Lupin: "Do it."

Jason motioned him closer and took a deep breath.

Jason: "This is going to look ridiculous."

He pulled out diadem from his coat and placed it on his head. Gasps rippled through the room.

Hermione: [stammering] "What the… What the hell are you doing, Jason?"

Moody: [wide-eyed, muttering] "He's madder than I am. Bloody lunatic."

Jason ignored them, gripping Lupin's hand.

Jason: "Hold tight."

He cast Visio Mortis, his eyes glowing faintly as the spell allowed him to see into the realm of the recently deceased. His gaze darted around the room until he spotted a flicker near the door Harry had run through.

Jason: [urgently] "Found him."

He cast Vitae Reclamare, forming a glowing triangular connection between Lupin, and Sirius's body. A brilliant white line shot from his wand, reaching for third connection Sirius's soul and binding it back to his lifeless form.

Everyone in the room stared, their disbelief evident. The glowing triangle pulsed with magic, illuminating the room in an ethereal light.

Ron: [gaping] "What the bloody hell is that?"

Hermione: [whispering] "Jason… What have done?"

Moody: [gruffly, shaking his head] "Never thought I'd live to see this."

Luna: [dreamily] "All the Nargles are gone now. How lovely."

Sirius's body twitched as his soul began merging with it once more. The glowing triangle pulsed one final time before disappearing in a burst of light.

Sirius gasped, his chest rising sharply as he took in a desperate breath.

Ron: [stumbling backward] "Merlin's beard!"

Hermione: [covering her mouth in shock] "He's… He's alive!"

Jason collapsed to his knees, utterly drained. He looked like a puppet whose strings had been cut, his face pale and his breathing labored.

Jason: [hoarsely, barely audible] "It's done…"

The aftermath of Sirius's resurrection hung heavy in the air. The Order members, still reeling from the miraculous spell Jason had cast, stood in a mix of awe and tension. Sirius, pale but conscious, sat up slowly, his gaze darting between Jason and the rest.

Jason carefully pocketed Rowena Ravenclaw's diadem, his hands trembling slightly from exhaustion. His gaze was sharp and purposeful as he looked around the room, searching for the one face that wasn't there.

Jason: [urgently] "Where's Harry?"

Hermione, still trying to process what she'd just witnessed, stammered out.

Hermione: "He… He went after Bellatrix."

Sirius: [weakly, his eyes wide with alarm] "What? Alone?!"

Jason: [raising a hand to steady him] "Sirius, don't even think about it. You've just come back—don't push your luck."

Moody growled, his magical eye swiveling wildly to assess the room.

Moody: "Shacklebolt, you're with Lupin , Sirius and the boy . Keep them safe and out of trouble. The rest of you—on me. We'll track Potter."

Hermione: [stepping forward, resolutely] "I'm staying with Jason."

Jason, seated and visibly drained, looked up at her with a faint smile.

Jason: [softly] "Go. Harry needs you more than I do right now."

Hermione hesitated, torn between staying with him and going after Harry. Jason's reassuring smile finally nudged her to move.

Hermione: [reluctantly] "Be careful, Jason."

Jason gave her a faint nod, then turned his attention back to Sirius, who was trying—and failing—not to look restless.

Sirius: "I can't just sit here when Harry's in danger."

Jason: [sternly] "You won't be sitting. But first, drink this."

Jason fumbled in his robes and pulled out three vials of potion, handing one to Sirius, one to Lupin, and keeping the last for himself.

Shacklebolt: [raising an eyebrow] "What's that?"

Jason: [grimacing as he downed the potion] "Something to keep us standing when we shouldn't be. Not the best-tasting thing, I'll admit."

Sirius sniffed the vial suspiciously but drank it in one gulp, grimacing at the bitter taste.

Sirius: [hoarsely] "That's foul."

Jason: [dryly] "It's not tea and biscuits, Black."

Lupin eyed Jason thoughtfully as he drank his portion.

Lupin: "You've just changed the wizarding world, boy."

Jason: [shaking his head weakly] "No, I haven't. Not everyone can use that spell. You'll understand soon enough."

Lupin: [frowning] "What do you mean?"

Jason: [avoiding eye contact] "You'll see. Now, let's move."

Shacklebolt moved to Jason's side, offering his shoulder to support him. Jason leaned heavily on him, his strength clearly waning. Sirius and Lupin exchanged a worried glance but followed closely as they made their way toward the commotion Harry had left in his wake.

The hallways were eerily quiet for a moment, the kind of quiet that presses on your ears before a storm. The faint echoes of spells being cast grew louder as they neared their destination.

Shacklebolt: [murmuring] "You've got guts, kid. But don't get cocky. You're not invincible."

Jason: [with a weak smirk] "I'm aware, thanks."

As they approached the source of the chaos, Jason's breathing grew heavier. The exhaustion from the spell he'd cast earlier was taking its toll, but his resolve kept him moving.

Lupin: [firmly] "Jason, if you need to stop—"

Jason: [cutting him off] "I'll stop when this is over."

Sirius, though still weak, squared his shoulders and gave Jason a small nod of respect.

Sirius: "You've got fire in you, kid. Don't burn yourself out."

Jason: [smirking faintly] "Coming from you, that almost sounds like a compliment."

The faint sound of Hermione's voice yelling Harry's name echoed through the halls ahead. Jason clenched his fists, his resolve hardening.
