The World's most Overpowered Side-Character

Chapter 430: Provocation.

"What is to say that the Emissary of Darkness will even reach this far, we exist in a plain that Giza has never seen or noticed-"

"I assure you, she is aware of us," Lumi, after observing as passively as she could, stood from her seat and turned to her fellow Council. "The same way that we can pry into the endless dark, she too can stare into the eternal light."

"There is no proof that she can." The other female Emissary next to her debated. "We do not even have proof that Giza can interact with light at all."

"I do," Sol spoke again. "Before I left for Source two years ago, I made contact with her and in our exchange I directly injected my mana into her physical body."

"Was she harmed?" Lumi asked hopefully raising her fist in a gesture of fighting. "How was I unaware of this as the one watching over you?"

"You didn't know because you were in the middle of watcing Ikaris at the time," Sol shook his head. "And no, she was unharmed, in fact she adapted to it right away as if she had come into contact with light before, which would make sense as the sentient darkness which predates time, Light and Fate." He explained. "I didn't know at the time, but she held on to that small sliver of light and made it her own, this means that she may become immune to it, all the more reason to attack her as soon as possible while she is still affected."

"This is concerning," Alpha hummed.

She already knew of this since herself and Jena shared a symbiotic mind scape where neither were different save for their personalities, but as she reminisced on Jena's memories, the incident seemed even more perplexing.

"When the Emissaries make contact with dark mana, our very existence is put at risk, yet she is capable of absorbing and adapting to light mana." The lead Council hummed. "Why then should we fight an enemy capable of killing us when we are uncertain of our own-"

"Fate?" Sol asked and the audience went silent once more. "Because Fate was never supposed to be a linear path with no change to begin with fte should be flexible otherwise it will always contradict light which can be bent and reflected, observation alone is what leads to the worst decisions and the most terrible outcomes to changable situations."

"Help me fight her before she gains any more power."

"This sounds like less of a request, more akin to a demand."

"Requesting is useless at this point, I have come to accept that you're all nearly impossibly stubborn, just take a look at what has happened to the Khalla cluster under your watch, Six of the Sixteen have been completely destroyed, reduced to emptyness only occupied by darkness, that is what awaits us all unless you do something-"

"And you think that we are enough to make a change?" The head Council asked, raising his brow and sitting forward, clearly leaning into the idea that there needed to be action in order to change the demise that stood before them.

"I don't think —I know that your intervention will, it might be just enough of a difference to help us win against an otherwise undefeatable foe, don't dismiss this, at least debate amongst yourselves and come to some kind of decision." Sol made one last plea.

"The fate of the observable and hidden hinges on your intervention."

"Sol Vestic," Nother Council cleared his throat. "Are you aware that the reason we are in this current predicament is because of you?" He asked, Sol sucked in a breath and nodded looking at Ikaris and smiling when she seemed to grow afraid of where this meeting was headed.

"Yes, I am aware," Sol replied honestly. "You're referring to the day that I took the Sol Collective into my soul, becoming the Golden Godslayer..."

"Indeed," Lumi agreed. "Had you and Ikaris died that day, Giza would have remained in her abode, and Umbra would have not become the threat he currently is."

"What is this, how can you-"

"No, Ikaris, she's right," Sol shook his head, closing his eyes as the tone became darker, more serious. "You were supposed to be killed, Talia was supposed to die, as was I, those were our fates, I don't know what variable caused the change, I barely managed to get away and into the Grand Collective, but everything changed the moment I did."

"Sol..."

"Umbra was still trapped at that time, if he had escaped into a reality where we had been killed, he would have been bitter, but not to the point of wanting to destroy all life, and Giza would have had no reason to begin her seige of the light." Sol explained and then looked at the Council.

"But that's not all there is to it though, is there?"

"Indeed, there is more," Lumi smiled and sat again, gesturing to her Council with a laid back expression. "In the grand scheme of time and Fate, Giza was always meant to appear, the true Variable here is Umbra, but as you have stated time and tine again, he is yours to dispose of, leaving us with the inevitable darkness."

"So, Giza was always going to emerge, Umbra's existence and spite against us only made her arrive sooner?" Ikaris asked to which Sol and Lumi nodded. "Then why bother blaming us?"

"Someone is always to blame for anything that happens, whether diretly or indirectly, if nobody does anything, then nothing will happen, this is the stance of the council." The head Council answered her honestly.

"Except something has already happened, and many are doing various things," Ikaris rebutted immediately.

"That said, the past is the past, Fate has already been diverted once, so there is no reason it can't lead to a better future now," Sol finished and raised his hands making a clasped fist and slightly shaking it. "All of you, Council, Emissaries, beings of light, think over what was discussed here today, we don't need to conform to sole observation and walk into the clutches of doom, there's hope to be had, and all it takes to grasp onto it is actively choosing to live and fighting for that life."

***

"Thank you for coming, Lord Vestic," Lumi stood first, repeating his gesture to him and then the other Emissaries. "Thank you all for lending us an audience."

"Lumi, you have already chosen to fight?" The head council asked.

"Indeed, I choose to live, to keep observing, Giza stands in the way of a prosperous and worthwile future, my stance on this matter is with Lord Vestic who has decided to clean up the mess he jump-started for the sake of every being under the light." She answered promptly.

"What of our... of your beliefs?" He asked. "Does this not directly contradict all that you have learnt over aeons?"

"I have not lost Faith my Lord," Lumi chuckled. "I have simply been enlightened, the presence of death gives purpose to existence, that is why life is precious; the sooner we all accept this truth, the better it will be for not just our Council, but all Emissaries on a whole, we have long gown complacent because we do not age, nor do we die naturally."

"...I see," He hummed. "We will discuss this further another time."

"Thank you."

"Sol Vestic," Another Council stood and made the same gesture he and Lumi had made to him. "Ikaris Vestic, we have heard your words as agreed upon, we will not interfere in whatever measures you take to ensure your own survival, as stated; the past remains in the past, even if our beliefs do not allign, the things you have said have stirred us all and provoked us greatly."

"I admit, this," He looked to his Fellow Council as well and then at Lumi. "Lumi, your stance as the one who previously stood pinnacle of our faith leaves me deeply perplexed."

"Thank you for listening, brother." Lumi made a gesture of respect to him as well.

"Very well," The Head Council cleared his throat. "We have all spoken our piece, there is much to review, I will take my leave first. The council is dismissed."

"That went far better than I expected," Sol looked at Ikaris while the two of them slightly lowered their heads while each member of the Council disappeared one after the other along with the billions which made up their audience.

"I thought heads would start flying," Ikaris chuckled, releasing a long sigh and taking his hand to calm her racing heart. "You handled yourself well, my love."

"Considering what is at stake, I would rather not have the entire Light Faction as my enemy." Sol laughed, watching lumi approach them with a radiant smile. "Well?"

"All you can do now is wait and see I suppose," She answered. "Well done you two, although I was meant to only observe I ended up making a decision on the spot based on your words, I am sure many others feel the same after what they witnessed here today."

"I miss my baby," Ikaris chuckled again, taking Lumi's outstretched hand before the three of them disappeared through a gate of light the same as they had arrived.
