Chapter 535: Jealous?
(From Blue's Perspective)
If Evan was right, then everything explained why Dem saw his mother in his sleep. It was not a dream. It was reality. What he saw was merely what his mother was doing at the moment.
Now, the question was- was Azure so weak that he could not leave his bed? That was a good thing, but how weak was he? I could not rest until I knew about his plan.
Dion let out a cry, pulling me back from my thoughts.
"What's wrong? You are done?" I mumbled, fixing my shirt as I placed the letter on my table.
I started swaying Dion in my arms and he stopped crying within a moment. He almost never cried and even if he did, he would stop right away. The other day, one maid said if the first child is very calm, the second one would make life hell. Well, that was not something Dem and I needed to think of as even if we had another child, that would not be in a few years.
'You are not getting a sibling in a few years, my dear Dion. You might even grow up as an only child.'
Only child or not, Dion would get all our love. He would grow up as a happy child. I would not let him face the childhood my husband and I faced. He needed to be happy and healthy.
Dem was on the palace grounds with the knights. A team of twenty knights was to go to the eastern part as there was a rumor of a monster attack. I had never seen these monsters before. Dem said they kind of looked like werewolves when they were in their wolf form, but these creatures were much more horrendous looking.
They stayed deep inside the forest usually, but if they did not get enough food, they would come out in search of food.
I watched him from my window. He was talking to the knights. As if he knew I was there, he glanced at me. I smiled and made Dion wave at him with his tiny hand.
Dem gave a small smile and returned his attention to the knights.
"Perita, hold Dion for me," I said.
I taught Perita how to hold a child properly. She was a person who could not stand still, so it took us a little while to finally get to perfection. She practiced with a newborn replica doll.
I fixed my shirt and straightened my pants with my hands. My hair was tied in a half-up and half-down ponytail. Since my hair was short, there were not many hairstyles I could do. Besides, this hairstyle was suited to my today's clothing choice.
I touched my black tassel earrings once to make sure it was not messy. Then, I made my way down to the palace grounds. Dem gave me a smile once again at the sight of me. The knights bowed. I motioned with my hand for them to stand straight.
Dem gave me a kiss on my forehead like he always did as a sign of welcoming me. I loved the gesture. It made me feel affectionate.
"When will they leave?" I asked.
"Tonight," Dem said. "Do you want to take a look at who I have selected?"
"No, I trust your judgment," I said. "But I think we should add at least ten mages."
"If they are just those silly monsters, we won't need mages," he said.
The knights were watching Dem and me, but more than us, their focus was on our son. It was probably the first time I brought Dion out like this. Dion was always kept inside the palace. Perita was very proud as she could hold the prince. I watched her making faces at her twin brother and her former fellow knights. It included her mate too.
"What if they are not that, Demetrius? Right now, the situation is different. Listen to me. Send a few mages too," I said. "I don't know. Everywhere I look, I feel like he is trying to do something."
Dem scowled but then fixed his face and looked at the commander. The previous commander had retired. She served the throne for a very long time. She was older than even Dem's father if he was still alive. Basically, she could serve Dem's grandfather too, even if it was just for two years.
The new commander was Knight Kade. Kade had brown hair and copper skin. He was one of the three knights who were with Perita when I first met her. He was a very cheerful person, even more than Perita. He offered me a bright smile and honestly, I had to wonder how someone could smile that brightly. It was beautiful.
"Tell the master of the magic tower to give me ten mages. I need the best mages for this mission," Dem said to Kade.
"Yes, Your Highness," he bowed and strode towards me. He asked for my hand, which I gave, although surprised. Before I knew it, he kissed my knuckles and smiled once more. It was almost like he was courting me. "It is a pleasure to serve Your Highness."
"You should kiss my hand too, or I might think you are not pleased to serve me," Dem said disgustedly.
Kade was dumbfounded. "But Your Highness is a man."
"Just go," I said, stifling a laugh.
Kade bowed once again before leaving. Dem talked to the knights for another minute or two, before dismissing them. As soon as they left, he grabbed my arm and was pulling me with him.
"Perita, follow us," Dem said, without looking at her.

Dem was angry. But why? Surely it was not for Kade? Was he going to get jealous of a knight now? If he was, I might as well hit him hard on the head to drive this puny jealous right out of his mind. If what I did all these times did not prove my love for him, then nothing else could.
