Chapter 144: Holy Crap, It's a Box!
Meeting an online friend was a magical thing. Two people who had never met face-to-face could deepen their relationship or shatter their illusions, never to interact again.
But it was also risky, because online, you never knew who was on the other side, good or bad. Meeting in person could be dangerous.
Even more terrifying than meeting an online friend was being unexpectedly seen by one – being doxxed.
When you finished shit-talking online, and the next day, you found your online opponent at your doorstep, the fear was chilling.
Even more terrifying was going to meet an online friend, only to find out they were a doxxing victim, and now they were ready for revenge.
Vill-V was facing this terrifying scenario.
"D-Doxxing is despicable…"
The girl with half-brown, half-green fluffy hair was pinned down by Lee, quite disheveled. But she still weakly protested. "Fire Moth people are so despicable, I trusted you…"
"Don't say that, VV. You used doxxing first, I had no choice." Lee straddled Vill-V, her curious eyes scanning the surroundings. "You might not believe it, but this is a coincidence."
This was clearly a workshop, filled with tools and inventions Lee didn't recognize. But she could sense their destructive power.
The girl beneath her had used these to launch unmanned machine attacks on Fire Moth bases worldwide, causing them much trouble.
The story was this: although Fire Moth had tried to cover up the Herrscher of Void incident, Vill-V had caught wind of it. Not knowing the full story, Vill-V mistook Fire Moth for the mastermind behind recent disasters, and attacked them.
If Vill-V was just an ordinary girl, Fire Moth wouldn't care. But Vill-V was a genius. Hacking systems, infiltrating headquarters, launching machine attacks… Vill-V was skilled in everything.
Fire Moth was struggling to cope, unable to locate Vill-V, just wearily responding to her attacks. Even Mobius's lab at HQ had been infiltrated several times, with taunting notes left behind.
Poor Mobius had almost crushed her test tubes in anger.
Theoretically, Fire Moth could reveal the truth, hoping Vill-V would believe them, or hope to catch Vill-V in the act and imprison or kill her.
But things were more coincidental – Lee and Vill-V were online friends.
They were close. Lee had commissioned Vill-V to make a weapon after discovering her inventive skills. The longsword she used to defeat the Herrscher of Void, Dawn No. 1, was made by Vill-V.
Dawn No. 1 was excellent, slicing through the Herrscher of Void's subspace spears effortlessly.
Around the time of the Herrscher of Void incident, Vill-V had mentioned Fire Moth to Lee, warning her to be careful of them.
Lee had thought it was just some online conspiracy theory and brushed it off. Fire Moth had confidentiality rules, after all.
Although Lee didn't need to follow them, she couldn't just introduce herself to every smart person she met and recruit them, right?
Things went on until today, when Lee and Vill-V were about to meet in person. Lee noticed someone glancing at her, then running away.
At the same time, the system notification sounded.
[Target Vill-V's favorability decreased, current favorability: 2]
[Current target charging efficiency: 180%]
The unmet online friend, the genius inventor, the fleeing beauty, the sudden favorability drop, and the 90% charging efficiency.
Lee understood instantly.
Her genius online friend was the one attacking Fire Moth. Seeing her, Fire Moth's war god, she panicked and ran. The goodwill accumulated online had dropped.
But Vill-V's charging efficiency and actions meant Lee couldn't let her escape. She followed Vill-V to the workshop.
Vill-V clearly wanted to trap her, preparing to use the workshop's weapons to capture Lee.
The result was obvious: Vill-V was now pinned under Lee.
Sigh, her online goodwill, now only level two—
[Energy +1200]
[Target Vill-V's favorability decreased, current favorability: 0]
[Current target charging efficiency: 1%]
Okay, now it was zero.
Lee thought she should defend Fire Moth. Although Fire Moth wasn't perfect, they were fighting Honkai. Mistaking them for the mastermind was unfair. "You might misunderstand us. Fire Moth isn't a global criminal organization, but a secret organization protecting humanity."
"D-Do you think I'd believe that?"
Vill-V wasn't confident. She had seen this girl, who looked younger than her, shatter her steel-hard inventions with her bare hands. Vill-V didn't think her head was harder than her creations.
But the truth was the truth!
"I saw human experiments in your organization. Mobius's lab has a dissected human! You guys are insane!"
Lee gasped. Vill-V was right, the Herrscher of Void's corpse was there, and Mobius had been experimenting on her…
How to explain? Tell Vill-V that the girl was a humanoid monster meant to destroy the world?
No one would believe that.
Anyway, lock her up first.
