Chapter 32: Emma Metis Isn't the Real Creditor

Emma borrowed this book from the library on the night before Traveler's Street opened.

Reading historical biographies and listening to the voices of history was one of her few hobbies.

This book, "Records of Historical Figures and Legends," was on the more entertaining side, filled with many interesting stories that were both true and false.

And this page told a story about the inventor of Magical Chess, Amigid.

Legend has it that long ago, Amigid invented the first version of Magical Chess with a 64-square chessboard. The king at the time was so delighted that he decided to reward Amigid generously.

The king asked him what he desired, and he replied to the king, "Your Majesty, I only want a little wheat. Please have wheat placed on the chessboard I invented, one grain on the first square, two grains on the second, four on the third, eight on the fourth, sixteen on the fifth… and so on, doubling the grains on each square until all sixty-four squares are filled!"

Let's not even discuss how large the chessboard would need to be to hold so much wheat.

In any case, the story that followed was similar to the ending of the "Millionaire's Bankruptcy" tale that Dark had told.

The king eventually discovered that even if he emptied his entire treasury, he still couldn't fill all sixty-four squares of the chessboard!

Emma was inspired by this story.

However, she hadn't expected that Virt and Robert would be so hopeless. Despite knowing about the debt crisis, they were still unable to secure even the basic classroom points!

Especially their performance in arithmetic class was simply beyond her imagination!

...

Initially, Emma was just annoyed by their constant pestering and angered by the fact that the children of heroes could be so degenerate. She wanted to give them a small lesson, hoping it would make them understand the importance of academic points and encourage them to study.

The way things had developed today was also something she hadn't anticipated.

As for the so-called loan, school rules clearly stipulated that any loan of academic points exceeding 10 times the principal was invalid and not recognized.

In other words, after 1:00 PM on Monday afternoon, that contract would be completely void.

Virt and Robert only needed to repay a small amount of principal – 5 academic points!

As for the fact that the two of them had never even read the school rules...

Emma felt it had nothing to do with her.

Anyway, from the moment she lent out the academic points, she hadn't intended to get them back.

But she wasn't kind enough to remind those two.

Watching those two detestable people busily running around for a non-existent "huge debt," Emma couldn't help but feel a sliver of amusement.

It could only be said that human nature is just like this; she wasn't purely good and beautiful either.

However, looking at the situation now, things seemed to be developing in a positive direction – they had never come to the library this early before!

...

On the other side.

Dark Demon was already in the laboratory.

After borrowing the key from Professor Kazel, he had rushed straight to the lab without stopping.

Having accumulated three days' worth of [Arrogance], Dark was already impatient to begin testing.

The third drop of [Arrogance] was extracted in the laboratory, which didn't cause him much trouble.

He was already quite familiar with the process of making [Arrogance I].

Dark first extracted today's portion of [Arrogance], dripped it into the [Thought Bottle] to mix with the previous two days' worth, then sealed the bottle and shook it gently to ensure the three periods of [Arrogance] were evenly blended.

Soon, a faint, almost imperceptible, dark gold color appeared in the bottle.

Two minutes later, he "borrowed" some basic materials from the lab cabinet and began to brew an auxiliary potion called "Brain Juice."

Applying this potion to the magic card beforehand could subtly alter the surface properties of the card, making it easier for mental substances like emotions to adhere to it.

This was also a discovery Dark had made from reading books these past few days.

After successfully brewing the "Brain Juice," it was a liquid resembling egg white, with a slight sour smell.

Next was brewing the paste that served as a "sealant."

Once the "sealant" was also prepared, it was finally time for the formal creation of the magic card.

Number of blank magic cards remaining: 2.

One of them was bought, and the other was leftover from magic class.

Dark picked one from them, spread it out on the lab table, and evenly coated it with "Brain Juice."

Then, he took a deep breath, gradually calming his emotions, and his fingers stopped trembling.

One-third of an inch below the mouth of the [Thought Bottle], there was a layer of water film to prevent the loss of mental substances like memories.

He carefully inserted the magic brain dropper into the film, being especially cautious not to puncture it on the first attempt.

Once the tip of the magic brain dropper was inserted into the correct position, he gently squeezed and released the magic brain.

After repeating this several times, the magic brain dropper let out a squeal.

Dark stopped pressing, withdrew the magic brain dropper, and pressed the tip of the dropper against the blank magic card, forcefully squeezing the magic brain!

The bit of [Arrogance] stored within the magic brain spurted out!

The effect of the "Brain Juice" worked, and the [Arrogance] gradually spread out like ink in water.

As this blank magic card was dyed a rich dark gold, Dark extracted another drop of [Arrogance] and dripped it onto the card surface.

The dark gold color deepened further.

Finally, the third drop of [Arrogance]!

As this drop of [Arrogance] diffused, "black" gradually gained the upper hand, and the so-called "dark gold" turned into "black gold."

Dark recorded this phenomenon and then began to apply the "sealant."

The subsequent steps will be omitted.

...

When the final alchemy array took effect, a brand new, black-gold [Arrogance] magic card was completely formed!

Dark resisted the urge to experiment here. He first cleared the traces in the laboratory and returned the key to Professor Kazel.

Finally, he rushed back to his bedroom and took out the [House Card], [Magical Beast: Eevee], [Arrogance I], and this new [Arrogance].

Adding in the [Joy Card], these were all the magic cards he currently possessed!

Generally speaking, experiments require comparison.

But Dark picked up [Arrogance I] and looked at it for a while, then put it back down, deciding to directly experiment with the new [Arrogance].

Then he made a choice between the [House Card] and [Magical Beast: Eevee], and first picked up the [House Card].

The [House Card] was a high-level magic card distributed by the academy. Its own construction was complete and not easily damaged.

The DemiDevimon Beast, as a familiar, was also more resistant to ○ (a type of plant) than a magic spirit.

Dark took a deep breath.

"In the name of Dark Demon, Familiar Summoning!"

Dark pinched the [House Card] between his index and middle fingers and activated the [Summoning Spell]!

As magic power rapidly drained, a hexagram magic circle appeared.

The DemiDevimon Beast pitifully crawled out of the magic circle, knowing that tonight would be another difficult night.
