Chapter 31
Chapter 31: Wit Robert Tries to Walk the Right Path
When Robert shouted out, he immediately regretted it.
But once something was said, it could not be taken back.
He leaned his hands on the table, half-standing, enduring the gazes of almost all his classmates. Suddenly, he regained clarity and understood his situation.
…
“Broheim, do you have any objections against Emma Maltis?”
Dark’s voice remained as calm and unemotional as ever.
Robert, however, sensed a different tone in his words. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead, and his legs trembled.
The story of the millionaire Jamie overlapped with his own too much.
Earlier, he had been unstable due to not completing his homework, and now, imagining himself being tricked by Emma out of more than 21 million credits, he couldn’t control himself and went berserk!
“It’s over, I’ve completely messed up!”
Robert was utterly hopeless, even failing to notice Wit pulling at his sleeve desperately.
“Broheim, let me ask again, do you have any objections against Emma Maltis?” Dark stood on the podium and asked for the second time.
Robert reluctantly answered, “No, none.”
Dark: “Then, Broheim, ten points will be deducted.”
…
Arithmetic class ended.
Dark gathered his textbooks and headed to Professor Lily’s office, intending to help her tidy up, at least by throwing away all the bottles of alcohol.
Once he left, the first-year students erupted in commotion!
The students from the Noble Academy were the most excited because Dark’s lecture was truly excellent!
They all said they would prefer Dark lecturing over Professor Lily in the future!
Even the students from the Mana Academy had to admit that Dark performed exceptionally well in this class.
The students from the Fool’s Academy also genuinely admired him.
Only the students from the Knight Academy bore strange looks from the other three academies, feeling a mix of emotions.
In this class, they felt like the negative examples, the clowns in a circus.
And Robert, who played the clown, almost crawled under the table!
He lost twenty points in total!
Not only did he lose all the base points for this class, but he also took Wit’s base points!
Originally, the brothers had a combined score of 75 points, just 5 points away from clearing their debt. But those 5 points became an insurmountable barrier!
Whose fault was it?
Of course, it couldn’t be Dark’s fault.
Dark was already quite tolerant!
There was nothing to say about this matter wherever it happened!
So, it could only be his own fault.
Not doing homework and shouting in class.
He scratched his head in frustration!
…
“I’m sorry, it’s all my fault,” Robert said painfully from somewhere in the corner.
Wit leaned against the wall, thinking, and casually said, “It’s fine, Robert. Let’s borrow 5 points from someone.”
Previously, Robert had comforted him, but now the roles were reversed.
Wit wasn’t as angry.
What mattered was that Robert came to his senses and didn’t spread the news.
Otherwise, regardless of whether Emma was involved, they would definitely be in trouble!
Being made an example and hung on the pillar of shame at St. Maryan for six years was not something a small magus could endure.
In this matter, they weren’t just victims.
If it got exposed, the protagonist in Dark’s story might change from the so-called “millionaire Jamie” to “Hero’s Child Wit and his friends”!
Thinking about how he was very popular when school started, and now, just one month later, he became a despised debtor, Wit felt a wave of disappointment.
“If I had studied hard since the start of the semester, wouldn’t the person standing on the podium be me instead of Demon?”
…
Things didn’t develop as Wit imagined.
They couldn’t borrow money last night, so how could they possibly get it by chance today at noon?
Whether the first-year students realized the importance of arithmetic or not after listening to Dark’s story was unknown, but they certainly realized the importance of credits!
So, they clung to their credits even tighter!
Wit and Robert couldn’t really lower their pride or directly explain their reasons for seeking help.
Frequent borrowing only made them more disliked!
…
At 12:45, Wit did some calculations.
In fifteen minutes, the debt would double, from 80 to 160.
They only had 75 points, so they still needed 85 points!
Before the next deadline, there were only three classes left.
Three classes guaranteed a minimum of 60 points, but to earn the additional 25 points needed, they had to gain extra credit!
Wit remained silent, “Robert, let’s study hard!”
Robert covered his mouth, “But Wit, did you do the History of Magic homework?”
Wit: “…”
…
Professor Lily’s office.
“Come on, drink this hangover soup, and forget everything!”
“No, no! Be gentle, it’s spilling! Gulp… It’s so bitter… Waaah!”
Dark placed the empty hangover soup bottle on the table, finally relieved.
Professor Lily wasn’t just a professor for the first year.
If she hadn’t been woken up at noon, he might have been forced to substitute teach in the senior classes!
At that point, he couldn’t just teach calculus, quantum mathematics, etc., right?
Maybe teaching some geometry would be a good idea?
But he feared that teaching might make him appear arrogant, which would be disastrous.
In short, entrusting the Imp Beast to use its charm to get the special hangover soup from the Halfling chefs, though a bit bitter, proved extremely effective.
Professor Lily sat up listlessly, her coat slipping off, revealing her smooth shoulders and collarbone.
Dark casually grabbed his own coat back and ensured there was no chance for Professor Lily to slip away: “Professor, I have a class, so I won’t disturb you. Also, I have already explained last week’s homework, (^_^) /–886.”
“Bang!”
…
In the afternoon, the History of Magic class went smoothly without any hitches.
Professor Didi read her prepared materials as usual, occasionally calling on one or two students to answer questions.
Overall, as long as one didn’t fall asleep, it was almost impossible to lose points.
Wit and Robert arrived early at the classroom and completed their assignments, although it was a mess, but losing more points would be the teacher’s problem next class…
As soon as class was over, they hurried to the library.
Since the start of the semester, they had never been so proactive.
The two morning classes on Wednesday were Potions and Summoning Spells. To earn an additional 25 points in these classes was truly difficult.
They had to perform better than Dark and Emma!
…
Emma entered the library a step behind them and saw the two of them disappearing in a hurry.
“Has it started?”
She muttered softly, then turned and entered the reading room from another direction, walking to her usual seat.
After sitting down, she took out the thick book “Chronicles of Legendary Figures” from her bag and flipped to the page marked with a bookmark.
On the left was a portrait, and on the right was the legend of the person.
Reading through the passage again, Emma couldn’t help but murmur, “I didn’t expect what Demon talked about today to have such a similar theme to this story.”
