The Supreme Evolver - A Super Gene Fanfic

Chapter 13: The Aftermath

Long Tian had been thinking about what happened for a few hours when he suddenly felt a massive pressure and the building he was in entering a state of alert.

An alarm sounded and he saw a translucent barrier appear around the building.

Looking out of the window, he saw transluscent barriers around every building and even the mountain.

The pressure somewhat diminished with the multiple barriers but was still extremely intense.

'Is the clan under attack?!'

Long Tian thought, alerted by this strange phenomenon.

But the pressure suddenly vanished a few seconds later.

After some tense minutes, nothing happened and the barriers around the buildings disappeared. Things returned to tranquility.

"How strange."

Long Tian muttered.

Then, a notification arrived in his cellphone. It read that the pressure had been caused by someone from the clan, and that they were not under attack.

He then began wondering which powerhouse of his clan had been releasing his aura.

...

The alliance was in shock.

Too many incredible events happened at once, causing every single news site, channel or any form of media to talk about only one thing.

The destruction of the Feng Clan.

The clan was the owner of a Heaven Token! On the cusp of attaining a High Heaven one.

Such a clan normally never falls. They might lose relevance, but their power is too deep to fall so suddenly.

This was extremely huge news, but something that early reports talked about and was even more shocking was the strength shown by the Feng Clan and, more importantly, the Long Clan.

At least 100 Gene Generals. All of them were extremely strong. As attested by the powerhouses that watched the event unfold.

There were 100 thousand Gene Generals in the alliance, but the majority were considered failures. Advancing with the minimum possible Gene Points, they reached the sixth sanctuary and were so weak that they could not survive against the beasts inside it.

These Gene Generals, not even on the Dragon List, were simply paper tigers. Grand in title but lacking in strength.

But what these two clans had shown were not these failed Gene Generals. These were true powerhouses, each sufficiently powerful to form a clan of their own.

There were less than 10 thousand truly strong Gene Generals. The vast majority were part of the military, with less than a thousand being independent or members of clans.

The highest strength that the Long Clan had demonstrated before were only twenty Gene Generals. And just this put them as the third most powerful clan.

And now, they had shown 100, clearly, things were about to change.

However, mysteriously, just after these reports started to spread, they were suppressed. Someone clearly not wanting this information to become publicly available.

The witch hunt that followed was even more sensational.

Even members of the Feng Clan that were serving in the military started to disappear.

Everyone knew who did it, but the laws of the Alliance explicitly prohibited the military from involving itself with matters between clans.

And no one was stupid enough to oppose the Long Clan now that they were getting revenge for a 200-year grudge and were the apparent second strongest clan in the alliance.

So thousands of members of the Feng Clan, some in extremely high positions, disappeared in the hours that followed the destruction of the Feng Planet.

This was a turmoil that affected too many people, and the matter was quickly suppressed, with only less influent news channels and profiles still talking about it.

...

A meeting between a group of people that could make the alliance tremble with a move of their finger, just like Long Tianan had, was happening.

They were all standing in a mysterious space. There was no light here, not even outside the normal visible spectrum.

This was Hyperspace. A place where the laws of physics behave differently, and most importantly, there is no speed limit.

To enter this place, one had to either be inside a spaceship that had a Hyperdrive, capable of creating a light-bubble, or be a Gene General, capable of ripping space open with their bare hands and surviving the extremely hostile environment with their bodies.

There were ten people, all forming a circle. There was no sound even though they were clearly communicating.

This was only achievable due to their Spiritual Seas being extremely developed, allowing the transmission of thought between them.

"What now? Our little pawn has been taken."

The one speaking was a man in a regal robe. His face was impossible to see as it emitted a brilliant golden light, that could not dissipate beyond a few centimeters due to the laws of this space.

"I say we should fabricate something and gang up on them. With all of us together, they would not last for long."

Came the response of a monster of a man. Standing at almost 100 meters tall, this man was wearing entirely black armor and had his face obscured by a helmet.

"Fan Kun, only you to think something so stupid."

A scoff followed by arrogant words immediately followed the massive man's words.

"Ming Hao, do you want to die that badly?"

Fan Kun spoke back, his body releasing an aura that caused everything around them to tremble.

"Enough you two. Let's see what the leader of our little group has to say about it first."

Came another voice in everyone's heads.

Everyone then looked towards a region where there was absolutely nothing.

Although there was no light in Hyperspace, there are countless ways to detect and observe things here still.

But where they were looking, it was as if nothing existed. They could not even feel gravity from this place, as if everything was hidden.

"Feng Yang was careless and stupid, almost destroying hundreds of years of planning. His death was his own doing, what we can do is extract as much value as we can from it."

A voice came from the nothingness. Everyone stayed silent and paid attention.

They were very alert around this figure, after all, he had killed Feng Yang in a single move from afar.

Feng Yang was not a weak person. This only caused more apprehension against this man in their minds.

"We shall start a demeaning campaign against the Long Clan, make their image bleed. Then, once we have enough popular support, we start affecting them inside the senate."

"Also... If anyone here is brave enough to face the Dragon, go ahead, just don't think we will join on your suicidal plan."

The man finished, everyone knowing that his words were towards Fan Kun.

Then, they discussed some more things before they all disappeared, no one being the wiser of the massive plot that these powerful figures were scheming once again.

...

Long Tian had been thinking a lot these past few days.

The clan had informed him that the test would resume ten days later, giving him time to think about everything.

During this time, he was constantly haunted by the image of the group dying because of him.

It made him realize that he was truly in another world now.

A very dangerous and unforgiving world.

And although he has a cheat, it does not make him automatically invincible, he needs time to grow. He needs to put in effort so that he can become truly powerful.

And while he is still weak, there will be countless people that can and will try to kill him and anyone that is important to him.

He is not a nameless nobody; he is the heir to a clan that has countless powerful enemies. His clan is the richest. Everyone wants a piece of this colossal pie. And if this means they have to hurt him, they will not hesitate.

So Long Tian also had to be more ruthless. He does not have the time to enjoy this new life. He must give his all and then more to grow powerful fast.

Or when the time comes, and it will come, he will be powerless once more.

But Victor was still conflicted.

His whole life, the biggest injustice he had suffered was bullying when he was a kid, and even that did not last long.

So it was extremely hard for him to become merciless. Even more so against himself, foregoing the pleasures of life all in search of power.

His mother had visited him multiple times during these days he was in the hospital under observation.

He had talked a lot with her.

He tried his best to not let anything show, but he was sure that she noticed he was extremely different from before.

But Long Tian decided not to be afraid of being discovered anymore.

He had changed. He was not simply Victor Smith anymore. He had already become Long Tian, and Long Tian had become him.

He had indeed changed in the past month, but that was because of the sanctuary, he convinced himself and hoped to convince others too.

His mother heard him talk about his fears and his guilt. About how he did not know if he could become what he needed to become.

His mother, after comforting him for hours each day, ultimately told him the truth.

That this was his decision. If he wanted to not give his all to become stronger, he could live a comfortable life and still be extremely influential.

He would be protected by the clan, given a managing position and he would probably represent the clan either politically or commercially, eventually being forgotten, becoming just another unimportant member of the massive clan.

He would never be capable of deciding things for himself, always at the mercy of the clan, as he would not have shown enough power to be given real powers inside the clan.

They would turn their attention to his first son when he was born and would hope that he would become a worthy Young Master.

This option would be the most comfortable but would probably lead to the most regrets later in life.

Or he could decide to do his utmost. Always striving for more, desiring power and the title of the strongest.

His life would be painful and full of challenges. At every turn, he would have to fight others and ultimately himself.

To surpass himself constantly, that was the only way to become stronger.

He would suffer, but he would be regretless, as he would have done everything he could. And he would be free, as the strongest cannot be contained.

She finished saying that this was his decision, and that she would respect and support him regardless.

She then left, and Long Tian spent the last two days before returning to the sanctuary pondering over everything.

Ultimately, the memory of Bian Mei's head in the air made him realize he actually didn't have a choice.

From the moment he came here and received his system, his future was set.

He would either become a supreme, or he would die trying.

He decided that if he was going to die, it would be giving his best.

Before returning to the sanctuary, Long Tian decided to see what news happened in the alliance during all this time.

When he saw what his clan had done, he was speechless.

But he also felt glad that they were willing to go to such lengths due to him. Even though he knew it was not entirely just because of him.

He also saw that the first sanctuary tournament would happen in 3 months. Making him ponder how powerful he could become in three months.

The rewards for the tournament were very good, and winning any of its phases was a significant achievement.

Thus, he decided to set a small objective for himself. To prove that he could and would give his everything to become powerful.

Reach the Top 10 of the last phase of the tournament.

Next morning, Long Tian was escorted by the elder of the family responsible for his test and his father and mother to the teleporter.

His grandfather and grandmother had entered the sanctuary and were not there to accompany him.

But that was okay, this was the responsibility of his parents, and they were fulfilling it.

Once they reached the teleporter, Long Tian stepped onto it and turned back, looking at his parents in the eyes.

"Mom, Dad, I promise, you shall never see me in this state again. From now on, you will either receive me as a corpse or as a winner."

Then, the teleporter flashed, and Long Tian was gone.

His mother had a complicated look in her eyes, a mixture of concern and pride.

Long Ming's eyes just shined with pride as he smiled, confident in his son.

Even more so after what the clan had discovered in his medical data.
