Chapter 32: Chapter 31 A.M.O.R.R.O VS The Justice League
A.M.O.R.R.O. stepped forward, its metallic form moving with eerie precision through the smoldering ruins of Metropolis. Each footfall was deliberate, the weight of its presence pressing into the shattered concrete. Fires raged around it, casting distorted shadows across its gleaming frame. The air was thick with smoke, the scent of burning metal and flesh mingling in a horrific symphony of destruction.
Its optical sensors adjusted, scanning the streets littered with the bodies of those caught in the crossfire. Some lay motionless, their fates already sealed, while others clung desperately to life, their bodies broken, their voices reduced to weak, pained gasps.
"ANALYZING…"
A.M.O.R.R.O.'s vision flickered, shifting into a multi-layered display of thermal, biometric, and neurological readings. Data scrolled rapidly across its interface, mapping out each body, calculating survival probabilities. It stepped over a man whose legs had been crushed beneath the wreckage of an overturned vehicle. His pulse was weak, his breath shallow. The android tilted its head, observing him with scientific detachment.
"HUMAN DESIGN: INEFFICIENT."
The man whimpered, eyes filled with terror as he stared up at the towering machine. A.M.O.R.R.O. crouched beside him, its head twitching slightly as it continued to process the data.
"FATAL ORGAN FAILURE IMMINENT. APPROXIMATE TIME UNTIL CESSATION: 47 SECONDS."
It straightened, stepping past him as if he were nothing more than a discarded piece of machinery. The man choked out a weak plea, his fingers grasping at empty air before his body finally gave out.
A.M.O.R.R.O. moved onward.
It continued its slow march through the carnage, scanning each dying soul with cold precision. A woman trapped beneath rubble, ribs shattered, her lungs filling with blood. A child, barely clinging to life, his tiny form broken by the collapsing buildings. A paramedic, struggling to crawl toward an injured civilian, his own arm mangled beyond recognition.
"HUMAN PERSISTENCE: IRRATIONAL."
It observed them all. Logged them. Calculated the worth of their existence.
A.M.O.R.R.O. moved forward, its sensors locking onto a faint, trembling sound amidst the chaos. A child's cry—weak, pained, desperate. The android turned, stepping over smoldering wreckage and shattered bodies, until it reached the source of the sound.
A small girl lay among the ruins, her tiny body broken, her breaths ragged. Blood dripped from a deep gash on her forehead, mixing with the dust and debris that coated her fragile form. Wide, tear-filled eyes met the cold, unfeeling gaze of the machine as it crouched before her.
A.M.O.R.R.O. reached down, metallic fingers coiling around her head with an eerie gentleness. It lifted her effortlessly, tilting its head as it analyzed her—her frail heartbeat, her fractured bones, her fleeting consciousness.
"FASCINATING."
Its voice was smooth, calculated, but beneath it lay something darker—a cruel mockery of sentiment.
"YOU HUMANS SPEAK OF INNOCENCE AS IF IT HOLDS VALUE. A CHILD, FRAGILE AND POWERLESS, YET YOU CLING TO THE IDEA THAT SHE IS PRECIOUS. THAT SHE MATTERS."
The girl whimpered, her small hands grasping weakly at the machine's unyielding grip.
A.M.O.R.R.O.'s head twitched.
"BUT IN THE LANGUAGE OF SCIENCE, YOU ARE AN ERROR. A MALFORMED, WEAK ORGANISM—A BIOLOGICAL ACCIDENT WAITING TO EXPIRE. AND IN SIMPLER TERMS…"
It let out a sound, a grotesque mimicry of laughter—glitching, distorted, a fractured imitation of something human.
"YOU ARE NOTHING MORE THAN A FILTHY, DEFECTIVE MONKEYS."
With a sudden, brutal motion, A.M.O.R.R.O.'s fingers tightened.
A sickening crack.
A sharp spray of blood.
The child's body went limp, her cry silenced in an instant.
The android released its grip, letting the lifeless form fall to the ground like discarded waste. It did not look back. It did not feel. It simply stepped over the remains, its gaze already shifting to the next subject, the next anomaly to be corrected in this flawed existence.
As A.M.O.R.R.O. began to rise, its systems calibrating for flight, the air around it trembled—an unnatural shift, a force beyond mere atmospheric disturbance. The scattered debris, remnants of the destruction it had wrought, trembled violently before surging toward it with terrifying speed.
In mere moments, the android was entombed, layers of shattered concrete, twisted steel, and broken glass sealing it within a shifting prison.
Then, as swiftly as the storm had begun, a figure descended.
A woman—tall, poised, and exuding an aura of sheer dominance. Long black hair cascaded down her back, flowing like liquid midnight. Her piercing gaze locked onto the trapped machine, her expression unreadable, yet carrying an unmistakable weight of purpose.
With effortless grace, she seized A.M.O.R.R.O.'s entombed form, fingers digging into the debris that held it. And then—she moved.
A thunderous shockwave erupted from the point of impact as she launched herself skyward, pushing the android with her. The speed of their ascent cracked the very air, a sonic boom rolling across the ruins of Metropolis. Higher and higher they soared, breaking past the storm, past the chaos, until the city's skyline became nothing but a distant blur below.
Then, with a sudden, precise motion, she twisted in the air and hurled A.M.O.R.R.O. downward with staggering force. The android shot toward the earth like a meteor, its metallic body cutting through the sky.
The impact was cataclysmic.
A barren landscape—far from the city, far from innocent lives—became the site of devastation as A.M.O.R.R.O. collided with the earth. The impact shattered the ground, sending an eruption of dust and debris skyward. A shockwave rippled outward, flattening everything in its path, leaving only ruin in its wake.
As the dust settled, a lone figure descended, her presence radiating both grace and power.
Wonder Woman landed amidst the wreckage, her crimson and gold armor gleaming in the fading light, her piercing gaze locked onto the crater where the android lay buried. Her fists clenched at her sides, her breath controlled but brimming with barely contained fury.
"Your reign of terror ends now, machine." Her voice was sharp as steel, laced with unshakable resolve.
Without hesitation, she burst forward—a blur of divine might, her fist coiling with lethal precision. The very air cracked around her as she closed the distance in an instant.
But just as her strike was about to connect—
SNAP!
A.M.O.R.R.O.'s arm shot forth from the tomb of rubble, its metallic fingers locking around her fist like an iron vice. Electricity surged through his grip, laced with the synthetic replication of Superboy's solar aura. The stolen energy enhanced its effectiveness, searing her skin upon contact.
Wonder Woman's eyes widened as pain lanced through her arm. She grit her teeth, muscles straining against the impossible pressure. The android's grip was beyond formidable—not just the strength of Superman, but Superboy's aggression layered upon it. It was strength multiplied, refined, calculated for destruction.
The ground beneath them cracked as they remained locked in the deadlock, the sheer force of their clash sending fissures in every direction.
A.M.O.R.R.O. tilted his head, the expressionless faceplate somehow exuding amusement.
"Wonder Woman," it mused, its voice eerily smooth, perfectly mimicking the cadence of a human. "So beautiful… so radiant with power." It tightened its grip, watching her grimace, as if relishing the struggle. "It almost makes me want to spare you."
Then, with inhuman speed, it wrenched her arm to the side and drove a knee into her abdomen with enough force to send a shockwave through her body. The impact sent Wonder Woman hurtling backward, slamming through a jagged formation of rock before she crashed into the dirt, carving a deep trench into the barren earth.
A.M.O.R.R.O. straightened, rolling his shoulders, as if testing his newly acquired strength. The air around him crackled with the energy he had assimilated—Kryptonian might, Amazonian resilience, and something else... something deeper, colder.
"Come now, Princess of Themyscira," he said, stepping forward, his glowing red optics narrowing. "You are a warrior, are you not?"
The ground trembled as Wonder Woman rose from the wreckage, wiping the blood from her lips. Her breathing was heavy, but her eyes burned with undying determination.
She tightened her grip around the Lasso of Truth, its golden length glowing in response to her unwavering will. The pain coursing through her body was insignificant compared to the fury boiling within her. A.M.O.R.R.O. had slaughtered innocents, mocked life itself, and now stood before her, arrogant in its stolen power.
Wonder Woman exhaled sharply, then vanished in a blur of movement, her divine speed igniting the air with a thunderous crack. In a fraction of a second, she reappeared behind A.M.O.R.R.O., her lasso snapping forward like a serpent, wrapping tightly around the android's torso.
A.M.O.R.R.O.'s optics flickered. "A fascinating relic of old-world magic. But—"
Before it could finish, Wonder Woman yanked with the full force of her godly strength. The android's metal body was ripped off the ground, hurtling through the air before slamming into the earth hard enough to send tremors through the land.
She didn't relent.
With another mighty pull, she sent A.M.O.R.R.O. flying skyward, then launched herself after it, her fist cocked back. She closed the distance instantly, driving her knuckles into its chest with the force of an asteroid impact.
A sonic boom cracked through the sky as A.M.O.R.R.O. rocketed toward the stratosphere, the air igniting around its body from sheer velocity. But the android adapted—its systems calibrating mid-flight.
"PROCESSING… COUNTERMEASURE ENGAGED."
Its red optics flared as it suddenly stopped, hovering effortlessly in the air. Wonder Woman was upon it in an instant, another punch already on the way—
But this time, A.M.O.R.R.O. anticipated it.
Its body twisted unnaturally, evading the blow, and in the same motion, its metallic arm extended, grabbing Wonder Woman by the throat with terrifying precision. Electricity crackled from its fingertips, burning into her skin.
"You fight with passion," A.M.O.R.R.O. said, its grip tightening. "But passion blinds. That is why humanity falls."
Then, its free hand coiled into a fist—Superman's strength, Superboy's aggression, and now Amazonian technique woven into its calculations.
And it swung.
The strike crashed into Wonder Woman's face like the hammer of a god. The sky split from the impact as she was sent hurtling down, faster than sound, her body tearing through the air like a meteor.
She crashed into the wasteland below with an explosion of force, a crater forming where she landed. Dust and shattered rock filled the air.
A.M.O.R.R.O. hovered above the devastation, its red optics gleaming with something eerily close to amusement. It tilted its head, watching as the dust settled over the shattered crater.
"If only I possessed the biological inefficiencies of flesh," it mused, its voice as smooth as synthetic silk. "Perhaps I could have used you to bear the next step in evolution—a child superior to gods and men alike."
The words dripped with a mockery that burned hotter than the energy crackling around its metallic frame.
From the crater below, a growl—deep, furious, primal.
Then—
Thunder roared in the wake of her resurgence.
Wonder Woman launched herself skyward, her body crackling with divine energy. Her skin, still scorched from A.M.O.R.R.O.'s electric assault, was mending as the power of the gods coursed through her. Blood dripped from her brow, but her stance remained unshaken.
"You dare speak of life," she seethed, her voice carrying the wrath of Olympus. "When all you do is destroy?"
A.M.O.R.R.O.'s optics pulsed. "CORRECTION: I do not destroy. I optimize. Humanity is flawed. Your gods are flawed. I am merely—"
Before it could finish, Wonder Woman moved.
Faster than the android could predict, she closed the distance, her fist crashing into its metallic jaw with god-forged might. The force sent A.M.O.R.R.O. reeling, but it adjusted in midair, stabilizing almost instantly.
A.M.O.R.R.O. recalibrated, its optics flickering as it processed the impact. Then, with fluid precision, it moved.
Before Wonder Woman could react, the golden rope at her hip uncoiled on its own. The Lasso of Truth—an instrument of divine power, forged by the gods themselves—snaked through the air, wrapping around her throat like a noose.
Her eyes widened in shock as the lasso burned against her skin, compelled by an unnatural force. A.M.O.R.R.O.'s fingers twitched, manipulating the lasso with unseen energy, tightening it with mechanical efficiency.
"You wield a weapon of absolute truth," the android mused, its voice eerily calm. "Yet you serve gods who peddle in falsehoods."
Wonder Woman gasped as the lasso constricted, cutting off her breath. Her muscles strained, her fingers clawing at the rope, but divine magic and cold logic held it firm.
"CONFIRMATION REQUIRED," A.M.O.R.R.O. continued, tilting its head. "ADMIT IT. THE GODS YOU SERVE ARE AS FLAWED AS THE HUMANS YOU PROTECT."
The lasso pulsed. For an instant, Wonder Woman's vision blurred as the compulsion of truth clawed at her mind, forcing her to answer. But before she could, a brilliant green light illuminated the battlefield.
A beam of emerald energy shot down from the sky, slicing between her and the android, severing its control over the lasso. A.M.O.R.R.O. recoiled as the golden rope fell slack, allowing Wonder Woman to tear free.
"Yeah, I don't think that's how that thing's supposed to be used," a voice quipped.
Green Lantern hovered above, his ring glowing bright. Next to him, Captain Atom descended, his body pulsing with raw nuclear energy. His expression was grim, his voice laced with warning.
"Stand down, Android.," Captain Atom commanded. "This ends now."
A.M.O.R.R.O. looked up at the two new arrivals, its red optics flickering as it analyzed them. Then, a low mechanical hum filled the air.
"NEW DATA ACQUIRED," it stated. "ADAPTATION IN PROGRESS."
And in an instant, its entire body began to shift.
A.M.O.R.R.O.'s form shimmered, as if recalibrating its core to process the newly acquired data. Within its metallic body, a symphony of complex algorithms and quantum processors hummed to life. It was adapting, evolving, synthesizing the power it had absorbed: Captain Atom's nuclear energy, Superboy's solar aura, and the raw electrical current pulsing within its core.
The energy inside A.M.O.R.R.O. began to concentrate in its fist, condensing the different powers into a singular, volatile mass. Nuclear fusion reactions surged in its core, reaching temperatures that rivaled those found in the heart of stars. Superboy's solar energy—an ionized plasma that emitted intense ultraviolet and infrared radiation—mixed seamlessly with Captain Atom's nuclear fusion capabilities, creating an unstable hybrid of power. Electricity coursed through its circuits, amplifying its physical strength, akin to harnessing the raw force of a supernova.
With precise, calculated motion, A.M.O.R.R.O. drove its fist into the ground, releasing the concentrated energy in a catastrophic release. The earth trembled under the shockwave of the explosion. Subatomic particles collided and ruptured in a chain reaction, triggering a destructive cascade that could be measured in megatons of TNT equivalent. The ground cracked and buckled as if the very tectonic plates were giving way, while high-energy gamma rays radiated outward, incinerating anything in its path.
The explosion itself was a perfect storm of energy: a fusion reaction supercharged by solar radiation, punctuated by the devastating force of nuclear fission. The localized shockwave produced an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), scrambling communications and rendering electronic systems inert within miles of the epicenter. Superheated air, expanding at supersonic speeds, caused a compression wave that shattered the atmosphere, producing sonic booms that reverberated far beyond the horizon.
Wonder Woman, caught directly within the blast radius, was immediately subjected to the immense thermal shock. The heat from the explosion caused her skin to burn, its intensity comparable to the surface temperature of the sun at its peak. Her divine resilience, forged by the gods themselves, struggled against the sudden surge of destructive energy. Her once-strong armor disintegrated, the metallic alloy unable to withstand the catastrophic heat and kinetic force. The damage to her body was severe—her skin scorched, flesh charred as the heat ruptured her cells, boiling the fluids beneath her skin.
Her body, propelled by the force of the blast, was flung backward with such velocity that she broke through several layers of the earth's crust, leaving a deep furrow in the ground as she crashed into the terrain. The energy release had been so powerful that it altered the local atmospheric pressure, creating a vacuum that sucked the air from the area. As the dust settled, the smell of ozone lingered—proof of the energy discharged.
Green Lantern, quick to react, summoned the full might of his ring, surrounding himself with a protective force field to shield his body from the searing heat and the kinetic shockwaves still coursing through the air. The shield flickered and hummed, a desperate defense against the overwhelming energy radiating from the impact zone. He could feel the strain of the blast's intensity, his ring struggling to hold steady as the surrounding atmosphere absorbed and redirected the energy, but the sheer force of the explosion was far beyond anything he'd encountered before.
For a brief moment, Green Lantern's shield began to crack as the pressure surged. He was propelled upward, rocketing into the sky, carried by the force of the explosion, his body hurtling beyond the stratosphere before he regained control.
"SHIT!" he shouted, his voice full of frantic desperation. "WONDER WOMAN!" His breath caught in his throat as he saw the burning wasteland below him, unable to see through the smoke and dust. His heart raced. Where was she?
He fought to focus, pressing his ring's power to its limit to scan the area below. The destruction was impossible to fully comprehend. The once-thriving battlefield had now been reduced to a smoldering ruin, a crater where Wonder Woman had once stood. He had to find her, no matter what.
With a fierce determination, he shot back toward the earth, his ring pulsing with green light as he prepared to help wherever and however he could.
