The Substitute Bride is adored by the clumsy Margrave

Chapter 52

The Love Story of Marius Hansen

Chapter 1

Marius’ first love came rather late compared to those around him.

Aside from his strict and stoic cousin, Jean, who was an exception, Marius knew that his cousin Sid had a girlfriend even before entering society, and many of the noble young men around him were similar. Sid, in fact, casually visited brothels, and Marius had been invited as well, but he politely declined with no interest whatsoever.

His first love, however, occurred when he was fifteen years old, and the object of his affection was the older sister of his friend, the Viscount’s son.

Yet, it was a love that remained unrequited in the true sense of the word. Marius found satisfaction in merely gazing upon her beauty, keeping it a self-contained sentiment. So, perhaps it couldn’t truly be called his first love. Several years later, she married and moved to a forigen land.

Afterward, Marius harbored similar faint feelings, but he never experienced a meeting that would truly make his heart flutter.

As time passed, his childhood friends swiftly married, and Jean, true to his nature, and surprisingly, Sid, in an unexpected turn of events, became devoted husbands who doted on their wives. This year, both couples had consecutively welcomed sons, and Marius was always receiving his share of happiness from his happy childhood friends.

“Next, it’s Marius’s turn, huh?” Sid would say that every time they met in Jean’s office for work, but Marius could only smile wryly since he still hadn’t encountered anyone who captivated him.

“Marius will probably need to feel a genuine attraction before he gets in any relationship.”

Marius nodded in agreement to Jean’s words. It wasn’t as if there had never been young ladies who showed interest in him before. The title of Viscount wasn’t particularly eye-catching, but he knew that his appearance was passable, and he believed he had a decent personality. Well, let’s just say he’s popular in his own way.

Unlike the uptight Jean, when Marius was around twenty years old, he had briefly dated one young lady at her request. Although he held a fondness for her, he quickly realized that he wasn’t suited for casual relationships, so they parted ways, and he has remained single ever since.

“By the way, Marius, I have a favor to ask. Could you go to the capital for me after a long time and investigate a certain matter? And while you’re there, could you deliver a letter to the King’s aide during the party held at the royal palace as my representative? It’s not a confidential letter, so that should be fine.”

“Ah, understood.”

It was a simple task for Marius, who worked as Jean’s right-hand man. He readily accepted and set off for the capital the next day, being accustomed to traveling.
