Chapter 302 - The Return Journey
What Jiang Hui didn’t know was that her suspicions were correct—this stack of documents was far from ordinary.
The large pile left out in the open was indeed Huan Xian’s coursework from the past month. However, no matter how demanding the command department’s assignments were, they shouldn’t have amounted to this much… Every page was handwritten, with Huan Xian analyzing each problem from multiple angles. When he was bored, he would also copy down case studies and textbook principles, which eventually led to such a massive collection.
But the few sealed packages underneath? Those were Huan Xian’s ‘private stash’, carefully smuggled in.
These documents were sent to Huan Xian on a regular basis by a particular individual.
Although that person had explicitly instructed him to focus on living a normal campus life—to truly learn what it meant to be an ordinary person—his background and origins were deeply tied to the military. Given his natural talent, it would be far more shocking if he didn’t end up in the military and instead chose a civilian path.
So, even though Huan Xian had come to study in this relatively remote residential star system for certain reasons, his official guardian still kept an eye on his academic progress. However, this guardian was no ordinary person with spare time to casually check in—far from it. They were someone who did not have the luxury of time for childcare.
The other party figured that since the child had started school and they had no time to personally tutor him, they might as well send over some useful reference materials.
These real-world case studies—rare and highly sought after outside—were practically overflowing on their end, piling up in boxes faster than they could be burned. So, the guardian simply selected a batch and sent them along with some living supplies, ensuring the boy wouldn’t lack anything.
Huan Xian, upon receiving them, naturally went through them as well. With his exceptional talent and upbringing, he had been exposed to such materials from a young age, so they weren’t anything special to him. However, he also understood their sensitivity. While he made a copy for Jiang Hui, he made sure to warn her not to distribute them.
So, these were indeed internal documents—materials that even most military academy students would struggle to get their hands on without the right connections. The fact that Jiang Hui had access to them was entirely thanks to Huan Xian. Having a friend like him was certainly a privilege.
After entering the mental space, Jiang Hui had to force herself to set aside all distractions, focusing as usual on her study and revision.
But even as she prepared for sleep, she couldn’t shake the thought of contacting Huan Xian first thing in the morning to clarify everything—otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to rest easy.
As it turned out, even after asking, she still couldn’t put her mind at ease.
The next day, Jiang Hui called Huan Xian via quantum communicator, and sure enough, he confirmed that the documents were real case studies provided by an elder. They weren’t circulated publicly, so she should just go through them herself. If she was done with them, she should destroy them rather than keep them stacked at home. While possessing them wouldn’t be a major crime, if someone else discovered them, it could still lead to a potential information leak.
‘Ha… what’s the point of keeping them, then?’
She already felt unsafe just having them in her possession—why wait any longer?
Might as well drop everything for the next few days and absorb all the information into her mind. Wouldn’t storing them in the mental space be the safest option?
Jiang Hui couldn’t help but laugh in frustration. She wasn’t sure whether to be grateful that Huan Xian was willing to share such valuable materials or exasperated by how casually he warned her about potential information leaks. ‘How could she possibly stay calm about this?!’
After ending the call, she let out a slow breath, emotions stirring inside her—not sure if it was excitement or something else.
Then, recalling her own words just moments ago, she suddenly realized… she was insanely bold.
She had been panicked about the sensitivity of these documents, yet she had still turned around and asked Huan Xian—’ if he got more in the future, could he share them with her too?’
‘Sigh’, it felt like she owed Huan Xian more and more lunches. At this rate, would she end up covering his entire university meal plan?
Jiang Hui chuckled at the thought and shook her head, pushing aside her random musings. She then gathered her belongings and prepared to head to class.

Time passed quickly, and by the third day after their mecha class, it was already Friday. After finishing their morning classes, most students in Class Two were in a weekend mood, as they had no classes on Friday afternoons.
Since Jiang Hui needed to make a trip back to her home on the mainland, she didn’t bother returning to the dorm at noon. Instead, she had already packed her things before leaving that morning. The moment classes ended, she grabbed her bag and headed out.
At the doorway, she ran into a familiar-looking female classmate, who cheerfully waved and said goodbye.
Jiang Hui responded naturally before stepping out of the classroom.
“Ah, she left so quickly again…”
“Well, isn’t that normal by now? She’s probably heading to the library or back to her dorm. Did you need to talk to her? Next time, try catching her during a break—otherwise, once class is over, you’ll just end up watching her leave again.” This was the same girl who had just greeted Jiang Hui.
“It’s nothing important, I just wanted to get to know her. But honestly, Jiang Hui seems like such a hard person to approach. It’s been two months, and even Clarens has had a couple of conversations with her, yet she still seems so busy all the time.” Another girl sighed, sounding a bit frustrated.
“Don’t worry, just try talking to her during a break next time. She really does seem quite busy after class—she’s either in the library or meeting up with other classmates. I also heard that she’s pretty close with some students from other classes, the ones she teamed up with for that competition. Sometimes, you can spot them together in the cafeteria, probably studying as a group.”
The girl nodded thoughtfully, gazing in the direction where Jiang Hui had already disappeared.
Jiang Hui had no idea that someone wanted to get to know her. After hurriedly leaving the classroom, she ran into Xierman outside the teaching building. He invited her to return to the mainland together later, saying that he had already arranged to go with Zhou Xiuwen. They could have dinner together and discuss their plans for attending the open tournament in two days.
Jiang Hui was tempted to take advantage of the convenient ride. However, since she had already planned this trip in advance, she had booked her spaceship ticket early. Canceling now would result in a financial loss. Moreover, Xierman’s family’s private spaceship had a different flight schedule and wouldn’t arrive for another two star hours. Jiang Hui preferred to get home sooner, so she had to decline.
Xierman could only express his regret and suggested they try to meet up over the next couple of days instead.
Jiang Hui nodded, wished him a safe journey, and then quickly headed to the spaceship docking area outside the school. Her ticket was for a noon departure, and there was only half a star hour left before takeoff.
By now, Beska Intermediate Academy had been in session for a full two months, and she hadn’t returned home to the mainland even once. After coming to the interstellar academy, she had lived there for quite a long time—it was her first proper place of residence. Not going back for two months made her miss it a little.
This trip was also a good opportunity to stock up on supplies. The region where her school was located was quite barren. Just last weekend, she had gone out hoping to buy some things, only to find that there wasn’t even a commercial street—barely any stores at all. In the end, she had to give up and resort to ordering essentials online for urgent needs.
