Chapter 251 - Divine Cat Mii-chan Prepares to Establish an Orphanage
Chapter 251: Divine Cat Mii-chan Prepares to Establish an Orphanage
The furniture and other household items from the mansion seem to be of high quality and could fetch a good price if sold. I initially thought the clothing wouldn’t sell, but apparently, there’s a trading company specializing in second-hand clothes, so I’ll sell them there. The weapons and armor have potential buyers, so I’ll store them for now. The same goes for the alcohol. Most of the food is preserved, so there will be plenty of use for it. I bet King Fang will love the dried meat. There’s also salted meat, fish, and flour.
I’m selling all the mansions of the dark guild executives, keeping only the mafia boss’s mansion for the orphanage. There’s no point in keeping the others, so it’s better to sell them. As for artwork, jewels, and accessories, I’ll send them to Wheeler’s tool shop. I’m sure Schwarz will sell them for a good price. Should I show the artwork to Neia as well? Speaking of Schwarz, I haven’t told him that I became a baron yet. Although he hides it, Schwarz was once a baron too, so I wonder if he’ll say anything about it.
I also plan to build an orphanage here in Beruna. I doubt there’s any suitable land or buildings available in the capital’s center for an orphanage. Large mansions are in the northern aristocratic district, making it difficult to find something there. So, we came to the conclusion—why not build it on my property? The problem is the construction. Right now, there’s already a guest house being built next to my mansion for the fairy folk. We’re also remodeling the baths to have separate sections for men and women. Adding an orphanage building on top of that might overwhelm the carpenters.
That’s why I thought about relocating an existing mansion. My house is a relocated royal villa, so there should be specialists who can handle that. I’ll inquire at the Commercial Guild.
“This is Baron Brocken. The personnel you requested will be ready soon. Please wait just a little longer.”
“That’s good news. Thank you.”
“Mii~”
“So, what brings you here today? If it’s about the store for the Divine Cat Trading Company, I’d ask for a little more time. We’ve found a good property and are negotiating with the owner. Once it’s finalized, we’ll have you take a look. I’m confident it will meet your expectations.”
“I’m looking forward to the good news. Today, I wanted to ask if you could introduce me to someone who relocates buildings.”
“Relocation, not new construction?”
“I don’t mind new construction, but it’s urgent, so I figured relocating might be quicker.”
“Indeed, it would be faster than building from scratch, but it’s certainly not cheap.”
“That’s fine. While you’re at it, could you show me some large mansions too?”
“Mii~”
Things moved smoothly from there. Apparently, a relocation specialist happened to be in the capital, so they quickly arranged a meeting. They also introduced me to a few mansions in the aristocratic district, and I chose the largest one. They also introduced carpenters who could handle the mansion’s interior renovations.
This time, the transaction was paid in full, so the Commercial Guild was all smiles, happy with the win-win deal they made from brokering it and the sale of the mansion.
Now, I just need to find people to care for the children. I thought about asking the Commercial Guild, but I decided against it. I don’t want anyone with vested interests involved in the orphanage. It must be a pure charity, or the children won’t grow up properly. People working for money alone will only have so much love to give. I need someone who can truly love these kids as if they were their own.
Back home, I consulted with Lucas.
“Yes, people who’ve lost children or spouses might be willing to work.”
“As a supervisor?”
“Yes, gathering many orphans will require someone who can keep an eye on everything, or it could lead to problems.”
So, I need a head for the orphanage—someone who can oversee the staff, get along with the neighbors, and still look after the kids. I’d love to have such a person for the Divine Cat Trading Company too.
“Um, how about asking the church?”
“The church?”
“Flora, the Goddess of Mercy. The church also runs orphanages, so I believe they would lend a hand.”
Flora, huh? She’s the sister of that useless goddess, right?
“Mii~”
I’ve never really had much to do with the church. I’ve only been to shrines during New Year’s back in Japan. I did some research on the gods of this world. There’s a god who created the world, but the main deity here is Flora, with various other subordinate gods. Flora is worshipped in most churches, though some regions also honor other gods, like in Forte, where they worship Flora alongside the god of harvest.
“Do you think they’d agree to help?”
“It’s worth asking. If the church lends its support, the locals will feel more at ease too.”
I don’t know… I’m wary of religion; it could get tied up in politics. I’d rather avoid that if I can. But maybe I should go and introduce myself to Flora’s church, considering she’s the sister of Ayane’s useless goddess. After all, it would be rude not to make an introduction.
“Mii~”
