Chapter 8: SEPARATED
~{INGRID'S POV}~
*
The moment my front leg touched the water surface, I flinched and whimpered at the coldness.
The thought of dipping my entire body inside was quite tasking especially with the fact that I couldn't even swim.
What could I do?
Suddenly, I felt Flare slowly run his fingers through my fur as if to ease my worries.
And in a low deep tone, he said; "Just let the water take you wherever it wants to."
What?
I should let it take me wherever it wanted?
That was risky.
My tail began to wiggle in delight as I began to enjoy the way his hand moved against my fur, it was soothing and I felt some sort of connection, like a spark.
Taking a step, I carefully lowered myself into the water while focusing on his hand as he caressed my body.
When the water touched my entire body, reaching my jaw, I shivered and quickly closed my eyes briefly so I could fully concentrate on what his hand was doing.
"You have such lovely fur, Ingrid," he softly said and from his tone, I could tell that it was difficult for him to keep speaking.
And as a response, I hummed since we weren't linked to communicate with the mind.
That's another disadvantage of being a Theta wolf, I had to link with whoever I wanted to speak with if the person wasn't a werewolf. But as for the other high ranking wolves, they could communicate with any species without the need to mindlink.
When his hand stopped moving, I froze and it was then I realized I was halfway into the Water Forest already.
'Flare?'
My mind softly called hoping that he would hear me when I knew it won't be possible.
And as I paused to listen to his movement, I realized that he wasn't breathing. I couldn't even feel his heartbeat unlike before.
'No…. It can't be…he can't be dead right?'
At this point I wanted to freak out but I couldn't.
I wanted to shift to my human form so I could at least check to see if he was alright but I couldn't.
'Flare!'
And yet nothing happened.
No! He couldn't die when I successfully found him. He can't!
With determination, I changed to my human form and he fell off my back into the water, making me panic as I quickly held him to myself while also struggling to keep myself at the surface.
"Flare?" I called as I tried to feel his pulse.
"Flare!"
I called again as I began to panic.
"Flare please speak to me," I pleaded and that was when I noticed how the water around us slowly began to turn red, meaning his wound had opened up again.
"This is not good," I panicked and looked around for any place I could place him on top just to re-treat it but there was no land or even rock anywhere. We were completely surrounded by water.
The more we stayed in the water, the more his body grew colder and the water redder.
I nearly cried out due to how much the blood got wasted. It was painful.
And as if to tell me I wasn't alone, the water moved dangerously, creating ripples from every angle and as I looked around to see what caused it. I went completely rigid on noticing eyes from every side, making me immediately realize that they were crocodiles.
"No, this can't be happening."
I said and quickly shifted back to my wolf side so I could protect Flare.
The closer they got, the more frightened I became and I began to growl and bare my canine at them but they didn't seem to budge.
And in an attempt to swim out of their circle, my leg was suddenly caught by one of them and it made me howl when its teeth dug deep into my skin.
And as if on cue, all of them came at me but I struggled while making sure none of them reached Flare who was on my back.
But the challenging part was keeping on my back while ensuring he didn't fall into the water and get lost.
The more I struggled against these strong creatures, the more I got weary from their bites.
'Help!!!!'
My mind screamed as I groaned just in case there was a nearby wolf but no one came.
Unfortunately, it got so turbulent that they successfully made Flare slip off my back, making me instantly shift to my human form and catch him on time. And in doing so, I successfully realized myself from their grip.
And the moment they were about to attack again, a strong wave of water came and washed against us, making us scatter and causing Flare to slip out of my hold.
"NO!!! FLARE!!!!" I screamed as I tried to swim after him but the water current kept slapping and pushing me from side to side, making me go down and struggle back to the surface continuously while screaming after Flare until I finally gave up when my limbs became weak and I could no longer breathe properly.
