Chapter 529: Completely Frozen In Time
[SICARIO]
As he stared at Hudhayfah, Trey could see the stress lines on his face, and that made him want to take them away. When he had asked Hudhayfah if he could let them be happy, Trey hadn't expected a positive answer.
He hadn't expected that the love of his life would be that willing. It came as a surprise to him, seeing as Hudhayfah was a healer who had always put everyone else before him. Hudhayfah had loved everything and Trey wasn't sure that he would want him.
Frankly, even with the mad council members gone, he wasn't sure Hudhayfah still wanted him. Perhaps it was because of the way things had happened, or maybe it was because of the way that the light had left his eyes once everyone was out.
Trey was scared of Hudhayfah and he couldn't even deny it. One word from the beautiful man before him and he would fold without so much as a second thought. It was crazy, and unhinged in one too many ways that it was making him lose his mind. Find exclusive stories on My Virtual Library Empire
"You can breathe now, it's just you and me on the entire floor," Trey said softly when he realized how stiff Hudhayfah had gotten. He had intended to scare the healer and he wanted to explain a lot more than he usually did.
Trey wanted to tell Hudhayfah that he wasn't leaving and yet as he looked at the healer, the most beautiful man he had set his eyes on, different words came from his lips.
"You were frozen in time, angel," Trey whispered as he turned Hudhayfah's chair to match his. He knew this was too risky and that there was a real chance that Hudhayfah would reject him without so much as a second thought.
Perhaps that was not something that Trey was going to deal with today. He was hopelessly in love with Hudhayfah and he couldn't even deny it.
"Why are you truly here, Trey? You had every chance and then suddenly you show up in the name of missing me? You may have convinced everyone else, but you didn't convince me. You didn't come here for me," Hudhayfah said and Trey whimpered.
He should have expected this. His Hudhayfah was a smart man who had managed to stay alive for so long. This was something that he shouldn't have overlooked, but then how the fuck was he supposed to explain to Hudhayfah that he truly was here for hm?
Hudhayfah didn't trust him and that broke his heart. What could Trey do to save face this time?
"Hudhayfah—" Trey began, but Hudhayfah interrupted him.
"We're both intelligent enough to know that you didn't just cross the universe to get to the mate you didn't come for in all these years. You wanted access to Sicario and I need to know why.
"I need to know if I will have to end my life to stop you or if this is just another hallucination and that you're not even real. Y'know, I wouldn't blame myself if you turned out to be a figment of my brain.
"I did everything to forget your face from the old books, but none of that ever world. It was like I was trying to run away from a shadow that would forever haunt me and never leave me alone.
"We were bound by the goddess and even I am not strong enough to fight against that. But it doesn't mean I won't try to put an end to the madness. It's somewhat sad, really, how I always thought that you would come back and try to use our bond against me and my people, and then you finally came to prove me right…
"Interesting, right?" Hudhayfah asked as he got up to pace. He couldn't stand being in the same space as Trey anymore. He always hated it when he was right about betrayals and this was eating hump.
He was supposed to be the smartest and yet his desire to be loved and held had drawn blinds on his eyes and made him think that just this once, Trey was here for him and not to use him.
Hudhayfah knew that the first time that they had seen each other, which was also the last time they had seen each other, Trey had been on a mission to mess with Hudhayfah's people at the time.
It wasn't something that Hudhayfah had expected to find when he had done his homework, but it had happened and he hated it. He hated that so many centuries had passed and he was still weak for the same person.
But maybe this time, he wasn't going to let himself be sued as a pawn in the snake of love. He had to be smarter, just like Hawi had trusted him, right?
"You have so little faith in me, angel," Trey said as he got up to walk to where Hudhayfah was next to the window.
From where Hudhayfah was standing, the view of the new Sicario was perfect and so beautiful. The pack was easily the best place in the realm and no one could be blamed for wanting to stay within the borders of the safest place in the entire realm.
He just hated that he had managed to be the one to bring in the Russel siblings back into their home. Oh, he knew they would wreak havoc and he also knew he couldn't keep threatening his life.
It was a low blow, one that was way beyond Hudhayfah's expectations. Frankly, even in the worst of scenarios, Hudhayfah knew he would never give up his life. He would fight to live, and enjoy whatever was left for life.
If he had to fight, then he would without so much as a second thought, but then at this point in time, he had tried it for the first time, however fucked it was, and it had worked.
He never thought that Trey would be that concerned about his life and now she didn't know what to do about it anymore.
"Faith, you say? Huh, Trey? Faith?" Hudhayfah asked in disbelief. He couldn't quite understand where his mate got the audacity to be like this.
Surely there was something in the manual for a mate that screamed against what it was that Trey was trying to do here with him, right? What the fuck was this man even on, talking like the world was all sunshine and unicorns?
Faith was not something that came easy for the both of them and Trey should have understood that the moment they had been left alone.
"Please, Hudhayfah. I'm trying to make things work, please," Trey pleaded, his voice trailing off defeatedly but Hudhayfah just scoffed.
Of all the things he had expected to hear today, this was certainly not one of them and he wasn't sure if he was pissed that he had felt this man in or that even with the way Trey was talking, he couldn't help but wonder what was going on in the man's head.
There had to be some pointers in there somewhere, right?
Oh, but Hudhayfah was frustrated.
"You must really be high on shit, coming here and talking to me about faith, Trey. Just because I opened my lips for you and let you touch me, doesn't mean that it's all good and better. I don't even know who the fuck you are!"
