The Pirate Way to Magic

So, I am during the Great Era of Pirates. That's...perfect actually. I know how this time work and certain events, if I manage to join Luffy I will have an idea of how to survive most situations. And that is not mentioning the One Piece.Whatever happened in this world surely has some connection to that treasure. And Luffy is the person most likely to find it. 

Now, didn't Luffy ask something? 

"Hey! Who're you?" Oh shit, I need a name. 

Like hell I am going to use my old name. New world new me. 

What about... 

"Schweinorg D. Clair, Magus in training at your service." I say while bowing a little. Yeah, I am going to be dramatic as shit. 

"Xinorgue D. Clair" He repeats, clearly struggling to say it 

Ouch, he really butchered the name. Not that I judge him, why the fuck did I choose Zelretch surname again? Its fucking hard to pronounce it. 

"Call me Clair, I know my name is hard as fuck to say" Like hell I am going to try make Monkey D. FUCKING Luffy speak my name right. 

"Shishishi, cool! What's a Magus?" 

"It means I practice Magecraft." He cocks his head to the side, clearly not understanding 

Oh, I am an idiot. Of course he doesn't know what Magecraft is. 

"It means I can do Magic!" I flare my magical circuits. Creating a small Magic Burst. 

I may be a complete noob, but even I understand the concept of using energy with no purpose in mind. 

"A MAGICIAN!" He says with literal stars in his eyes. 

"Magus, not Magician." I say in reflex. 

Shit. 

"You do magic, so you're a magician!" He says with upmost certainty. 

I really don't want to discuss with him, so how do I explain in a way he understands? OH! 

"You want to be Pirate King, right?" 

"Yeah!" He nods. 

"Magicians are like the pirate king of Magus." Yeah, just use terms he understands to explain things. 

"OH! So, you want to become a Magician then!" 

That...Hmm, yeah. I want to learn about this world truth, but that's mostly because Zelretch asked me to do so. Becoming a Magician...Yeah, I like how that sounds. An ambition to fulfill! 

"I sure do! I Schweinorg D. Clair will become a Magician!" I declare. Honestly, I just want to find a way to punch Zelretch in the face. But the Peak of Magecraft sounds like a good end goal to me. 

"Shishishi. Join my crew!" Wait, too fast! 

"Don't know about that chief! I am not sure I want to be a pirate yet!" 

"Why not?" He tilts his head confused. 

Wait, he's right. I don't actually have a reason to refuse. And he did help me figure out my dream after like 5 minutes speaking with me. 

Eh, screw it. 

"Fair. Why not? Nice to join you, Captain." 

"I have a Magician in my crew!" 

"Not a magician yet" 

He looks at me then... 

"I have a future Magician in my crew!" Wow, he sure is insistent. 

"Well, that works. So, where are the other crew members?" 

"You're the first!" Oh, so this is before he started his journey. 

"Well, then..." I stop as my stomach rumbles. 

Oh, I forgot, before this entire mess begun, I left to eat. 

"You're hungry!" Luffy grabbed my arm, pulling me with a surprising force. How can someone so skinny be so strong?"You need food. Can't have my meat though!" 

"Wait! I have no berries on me!" 

"It's fine, Makimo won't mind." He calls back with a smile "I was going there now anyway." 

Damn, I can't afford to refuse him. What's this ridiculous charisma? He is just so simple that it makes me want to follow with his flow.

Yeah. Just following his flow was the best idea ever. Midway through he decided I was too slow. So, he just...ran. While dragging me with him. I expected it to be painful, but it was actually really fun. Like a really weird rollercoaster. 

"Makino!" Luffy called, dragging me through the door. 

"Happy Birthday Luffy!" A pretty lady with green hair calls, before pausing when seeing me. "Ah, who is the youngman?" 

"Schweinorg D. Clair, just Clair is fine." I introduce myself, while still being dragged by Luffy. 

"He came from a hole in the sky!" Luffy declares as he sits, dragging me to the stool next to him. 

"A hole in the...sky?" Makimo says, confused and a bit worried. 

Yeah fair, if Luffy didn't caught me I was absolutely going to die. 

"Magical shenanigans" I answer. Like hell I'm going to try and explain the Kaleidoscope to them. 

"Oh, alright them" Wow, she sure accepted it fast. "I made food for your birthday, Luffy. I assume you'll be sharing with Clair?" 

"Like I told Luffy, I am berrieless." I shrug. I'm hungry, but this seems to be Luffy's birthday, not gonna mess this for him. He should it as much as he wishes to. 

Even if I am hungry as hell. 

"It's no problem." Makino says with a smile. "You must be hungry after your...Magical shenanigan?" 

She sounds a bit bewildered, but believing it. Makes sense, with Luffy and Garp existing n this area, not to mention the Red Hair pirates having been here for a year or so. She is bound to have seem some weird shit. 

"Told ya Makino wouldn't mind." Luffy says with a smile. Damn, what's his toothpaste? It shines, like literally. Wait, does he even brush his teeth? Nah, he does, he is dumb but has basic manners. 

"You shouldn't assume." I scold frowning a bit. 

Eh, I knew she wouldn't. But still, I have basic manners. 

Soon, Makino arrived with...That in the actual hell?! 

I knew Luffy ate a lot. But knowing and seeing are different things. I have seem armies eat less than that. There are at least 30 plates there, and those are only the ones I can SEE. 

Then Luffy starts stuffing his mouth with food. Wow, impressive speed, no human should be able to eat like that. But he isn't quite human, is he? 

He says something, probably 'thank you' with how it sounds. 

I was going to say something about manners, but damn, this food smells delicious! 

So, I decided to eat as well. Makimo did put some plates in front of me after all. 

It seems I was really hungry. Like, I usually have troubles to eat, but I ate a lot now. 

Seriously, most time I have to force myself to eat a decent mount of food. It was actually a concern back home. 

And luckily for me this meal is mostly meat. I have problems to eat a lot of food, most textures are actually painful for me to try and eat. Which added with my troubles to eat...yeah, I'm really skinny. 

Like, I'm on the verge of becoming unhealthy skinny. 

Yeah, that's going to be a problem in the long run. 

I suddenly see a certain rubbery hand trying to reach for one of my plates. 

"Best lucky next time." I do a small flick while flaring my circuits to do a weak magical burst, repelling his hand. 

"Ouch! Shishishishi, that's so cool! Magecerte sure is nice." He seems happy to see me using magecraft, makes sense, who wouldn't want to see magic in action? 

"Magecraft cap" I correct 

Makimo laughs a bit, while staring a bit curious about the weird magic. 

Oh, I just realised. "Wait, it's your birthday?" 

"Yup! Sixteen now!" Luffy says with a bright smile. Hmm, he must be really happy for growing up. 

So, a year before canon. He sailed in his seventeenth birthday if I recall correctly. 

"I'm seventeen, almost eighteen. Happy birthday Cap." I smile. What's the last time I went to a birthday from someone who wasn't family? 

"Shishishi," Luffy laughed, still with that stupidly big smile on his face. I can't help but wonder how does that doesn't tire him out. I can barely smile for a few seconds, let alone with such intensity. "One year and I can sail and become King of Pirates!" Then, he suddenly gets really close to my face, eyes staring strongly, like he is seeing my soul. Wow, he can be a bit scary. "And you're coming with me right Firstmate?" Ok, how did he manage to smile even more?! 

Wait... 

"Firstmate? Are ya sure about that captain? Usually that spot is left for a powerful swordsman or something like that." He blinks, now having a thoughtful look on his face. 

Then he smiles. Again, how the heck does he manage to smile so damn much? 

"Yup! The future Pirate King needs to have the best Firstmate, and what best than a future Magician?" 

Hmm, fair. Technically Luffy never had a firstmate, Zoro sort of filled the position more out of lack of options than anything. And it was clearly not something good for him. The weight got too heavy, Thriller Bark proves that. He changed after that arc, and honestly, not for the best. 

"You know what? Sure Captain. I'm gonna be the Firstmate, you need someone to save your ass from dumb situations, and I don't think I can trust anyone else in our future crew to do that." 

"Shishishi, that's true." He says while laughing. Then suddenly he looks thoughtful. "Oh, what kind of...magecraft?" I nod. "You use? Like fireball and stuff?" 

Oh, that's true. Currently I can only use my circuits to create bursts of Magical Energy, I don't actually have a type of magecraft that I use. 

As I am thinking that. A hole opens on the ceiling. And with a *Thump*. A box wrapped in brown paper falls. Having a smaller box with a letter on top of it. 

Makino walks to it and grabs the letter. "Clair, it's for you." She says, a bit amused anda bit bewildered. 

I walk to her and she hands me the letter. 

Dear Schweinorg D. Clair 

First off, my name? Really? A great choice! 

Second off, it has come to my attention hat leaving you with no actual means to learn Magecraft may be a little bit of a... dick move. 

Yeah, when RUBY is judging you, you need to ask if you're doing something wrong. 

So, this is a stack of book about the basics of magecraft, with some more advanced ones for Jewel magecraft as it is my specialty. 

I also decided to get some for Runes, I believe they're going to be very useful at the beginning of you journey. 

And, as a small apology gift for just letting you fall, inside this box is a Mystic Code of my own making. A basic one, surely, but a truly useful one. 

It's a spacial displacement ring, made to store a few itens, this way you dont have to fear losing these books.

I smile as I finish reading the letter. My anger at Zelretch diminished a bit. 

I open the small box and take off the ring. Putting it at my left-hand middle finger. 

I then look at my captain. 

"Well cap, I am just as curious as you!" I say as I apply Mana into the ring, making the large box at my side disappear.
