Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Gear Drop!
"Finally, it's done!"
After several hours of hard work, Jaxon finally dug a pit about three meters deep. Inside the pit, he had placed sharpened branches using his medicinal hoe. It had to be said that the hoe provided by Old Li was truly versatile. It could be used for gathering herbs, combat, digging, and even as a knife. It was truly an excellent tool.
"Once this mission is completed, I'll see if I can get my hands on this hoe," Jaxon thought. He was already eyeing the hoe even before the mission was over, as he was extremely satisfied with it.
With the trap set, the next task was to lure the monster.
Jaxon quietly approached the Mottled Evil Tiger once again. The tiger was still there, and after several hours, it hadn't moved an inch. It seemed determined to guard the Purple Flame Fruit strictly.
"Fortunately, I didn't plan to waste time with you and instead prepared a trap for you," Jaxon muttered to himself.
Then, he used the Appraisal skill on the Mottled Evil Tiger once more. As expected, just as Jaxon had anticipated, the sleeping tiger immediately woke up after the skill was used and looked around vigilantly.
This time, Jaxon didn't hide. Instead, he stood up and taunted the Mottled Evil Tiger, "I'm right here. Come and get me, you big brute!"
With that, Jaxon turned and ran. As expected, a roar came from behind, shaking the entire forest and causing many birds to fly out of the woods.
Jaxon's heart skipped a beat. He had been right in thinking that he was no match for the tiger. Just a roar from the Mottled Evil Tiger had accelerated his heartbeat significantly, and he became much more nervous. If he had to fight it head-on, he would probably be killed instantly.
Fortunately, Jaxon hadn't made that foolish decision but had dug a trap instead.
Jaxon ran ahead, and the Mottled Evil Tiger chased after him, moving at an incredibly fast speed. It didn't even glance at the weeds, shrubs, and small branches in the forest but simply crashed through them, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
"Whoa, that fast?" Jaxon glanced back and was greatly shocked.
Although he had known from the limited appraisal information that the Mottled Evil Tiger had high agility, he hadn't expected it to be this fast. Its speed was several times faster than his. Fortunately, Jaxon had provoked the tiger from a distance and had run immediately after doing so. Otherwise, he might have been caught by now.
Jaxon didn't dare to look back again. He turned his head forward and ran with all his might, feeling the immense pressure from behind getting closer and closer, as if it were about to crush him at any moment.
"Almost there, just a little more!" Jaxon's eyes lit up as he saw the mark he had made next to the trap.
The Mottled Evil Tiger's speed was just too fast. At this moment, Jaxon could even smell the foul breath from its mouth, which made him even more nervous.
Fortunately, Jaxon finally made it to the side of the trap. He ran around it and quickly returned to his original path. In just that short amount of time, the Mottled Evil Tiger had caught up, now less than five meters away from him.
Unaware of Jaxon's plan, the Mottled Evil Tiger continued to chase him in a straight line.
"Splash!"
Just as Jaxon had anticipated, a falling sound came from behind him, followed by the sound of spikes piercing through flesh and the Mottled Evil Tiger's roar. This time, the roar was less powerful but full of anger.
Jaxon stopped and walked back to the trap, looking down at the Mottled Evil Tiger inside. The tiger also glared at Jaxon, roaring continuously as if it wanted to tear him apart.
"Come on, if you've got the guts, come up here. What good is just roaring?" Jaxon stood above the trap, taunting the Mottled Evil Tiger with a triumphant smile.
The Mottled Evil Tiger was in a miserable state. The sharpened and pointed branches that Jaxon had placed had pierced through its body, and blood was flowing out continuously. The tiger tried to struggle free, but with each movement, the branches caused more pain and blood flowed faster.
However, the Mottled Evil Tiger was incredibly fierce. Even with its body torn apart, it still struggled to get out and attack Jaxon. Its ferocious gaze made Jaxon's heart tremble.
Jaxon was genuinely afraid that it would break free and attack him, so he quickly lay on the ground and used his medicinal hoe to strike the tiger's head.
The tiger was stubborn, or perhaps just foolish, and didn't dodge. Instead, it raised its head and roared at Jaxon, giving him the perfect opportunity to attack.
It had to be said that the Mottled Evil Tiger had an incredibly strong will to live. Even with its body in tatters and blood covering the ground, Jaxon had to attack with his hoe for about half an hour before finally killing it. By the end, Jaxon was panting heavily.
"Fortunately, I didn't think about fighting it head-on earlier, or I would have been dead for sure," Jaxon thought.
With the help of the trap, it had still taken him a long time to defeat it. Without the trap, he couldn't even imagine what would have happened.
Of course, this was also related to Jaxon's low level. He was level two, while the Mottled Evil Tiger was level ten. The difference in strength was too great. Jaxon's attacks probably couldn't even break through the tiger's defense. The tiger was killed by being worn down.
Anyway, it was good that the Mottled Evil Tiger was dead. Now, he could finally get his hands on the Purple Flame Fruit.
"Huh, the corpse of the Mottled Evil Tiger hasn't disappeared either," Jaxon thought as he lay beside the trap, catching his breath. He noticed that the corpse of the Mottled Evil Tiger, which had been dead for a long time, hadn't been refreshed. His spirits lifted immediately. He reached down into the pit and grabbed the corpse, which then entered his backpack as expected.
Jaxon was already quite satisfied with obtaining the corpse of the Mottled Evil Tiger and was about to leave when he noticed something else. Inside the pit, there was a gleaming object.
An equipment drop?!
Jaxon was overjoyed. He had previously thought that this world didn't have monsters dropping equipment, but now it seemed he was wrong. It wasn't that they didn't drop equipment; it was just that the drop rate was extremely low. He had killed many low-level monsters before without getting a single piece of equipment. Now, this level ten Mottled Evil Tiger had given him his first piece of equipment.
Jaxon quickly jumped down into the pit. Many of the sharpened branches had been crushed by the Mottled Evil Tiger, but there were still plenty of places to step. As soon as he got inside, he picked up the equipment.
