The Mizukage Is Strong But Overly Cautious

Chapter 10: CHAPTER 10

In the heart of Kirigakure, within the Mizukage Building, a specially reinforced training ground awaited its contenders. The expansive arena was designed to accommodate the full prowess of two Jōnin. On opposite ends stood Mizuki Ryosuke and Kaguya Yuta, their gazes locked in unyielding determination.

Serving as the referee, Maeda Yuanshi positioned himself between the two and inquired, "Are you both prepared?" Upon receiving their affirmative nods, he promptly signaled the commencement of the match.

The rules were straightforward: no restrictions except the prohibition of fatal outcomes. Victory would be claimed when one combatant either lost consciousness or conceded defeat.

This anticipated clash between the Mizuki and Kaguya clans had drawn the attention of numerous Jōnin, some of whom had even brought snacks, eager to witness the spectacle. The confrontation between the Kaguya clan's renowned Shikotsumyaku (Dead Bone Pulse) and the Mizuki clan's Ice Release was a rare and thrilling event.

Mizuki Ryosuke's youthful and handsome appearance led many to label him a "genius." The buzz among the spectators was palpable, with some already crafting sensational headlines: "Shock! The new generation Mizuki challenges Kaguya Yuta! The fateful showdown of new and old geniuses!"

As the match began, Mizuki Taki, seated in the main observation area, coughed lightly, his eyes reflecting a mix of concern and contemplation as he observed the two young shinobi below.

Despite criticisms regarding his leadership, Mizuki Taki had maintained his position as Mizukage for a decade, a testament to his political acumen. He had anticipated potential challenges during the Jōnin exam's combat evaluation and had discreetly arranged for Maeda Yuanshi to ensure a favorable matchup for Mizuki Ryosuke.

However, Maeda Yuanshi had other plans. Despite assurances of arranging a "suitable opponent," he had orchestrated a confrontation with Kaguya Yuta, a formidable adversary.

The notion of an impartial "lottery" was a facade; such events were often manipulated behind the scenes.

Mizuki Taki's primary concern was not just Ryosuke's potential defeat but the broader implications for the Mizukage's reputation. A poor performance could fuel rumors of favoritism and incompetence, further eroding his already fragile standing.

Mizuki Ryosuke, maintaining a composed exterior, quickly assessed the situation. He recognized that the Kaguya clan, known for their straightforwardness, were unlikely to devise such a scheme. His gaze shifted to Maeda Yuanshi, whose authoritative demeanor betrayed little. Finally, his eyes settled on Yagura, seated casually with a faint, enigmatic smile.

Accepting the circumstances, Mizuki Taki could only hope that Ryosuke would manage to avoid a humiliating defeat, understanding that a significant loss would have lasting repercussions.

In contrast, Anbu Nagachi Yagura's smile was overt and unrestrained. He mused, "Mizuki Taki has become reckless, resorting to such transparent tactics. This will only serve to further diminish his credibility, aligning perfectly with my objectives."

For Yagura, this confrontation was a fortuitous development, with the Kaguya clan merely serving as pawns in his broader strategy.

Facing the palpable intensity emanating from his opponent, Mizuki Ryosuke remained vigilant. Adhering to his principle of moderation, he reminded himself never to underestimate any adversary, recognizing that survival hinged on caution.

After a brief standoff, Ryosuke decided to initiate with a probing attack. His hands blurred through a rapid sequence of forty-four seals in mere seconds.

With a resounding roar, a massive surge of water materialized within the training ground. A formidable water dragon rose, its serpentine form coiling before it lunged toward Kaguya Yuta.

The spectators were taken aback. "The Water Dragon Bullet Technique right from the start?" one Jōnin exclaimed. This advanced ninjutsu was known for its complexity and substantial chakra consumption, typically reserved for decisive moments.

Even Mizuki Taki observed with surprise, noting Ryosuke's impressive hand speed and the ferocity of his initial assault. He thought, "Perhaps his previous victory over that Rock Shinobi wasn't merely luck."

On the opposing side, Kaguya Yuta, confronted by the impending water dragon, steeled himself. A determined glint flashed in his eyes as he resolved to demonstrate the might of the Kaguya clan.

The water dragon struck with a thunderous impact, causing the ground to tremble slightly. As the water settled, a hush fell over the audience, many left in stunned silence.

A member of the Kaguya clan stammered, "Did… did it connect?" Meanwhile, Teru Yoruichirou's expression darkened, resembling a storm cloud.
