The Master Programmer
Chapter 67: Just… Business 2
Jason's phone buzzed, snapping him out of his musings. It was an email from HR. His brow furrowed as he opened it. The subject line read: "Division Change Notification."
There was no way, right? She had been quick to act on this thing?
A short while later, Jason stood in the conference room as the announcement was made. He was being moved and promoted to head the newly created Accelerator Division.
Accelerator Division. The name itself thrilled him. It was sleek, powerful… everything Jason strived to be. And with the promotion came a salary that quadrupled his previous earnings. Jason smirked when he saw the emails, sighing to himself.
Samantha did not waste time. Anyway, now that he was a Director, he knew that he would be seeing her more often. Hopefully, she would not be too problematic.
Anyone who was watching as Jason did all the things he did, would think that Jason was revealing himself unnecessarily, but Jason thought differently. His revealing himself, all his vulnerabilities, was something that would help him with dealing with Samantha.
Samantha was a control freak. It was pretty obvious to Jason. Especially since what she was doing was looking into him and then looking at his past, and looking at the way she was conducting herself, Jason knew that he could build a deep connection to her.
Anyway, Samantha was terrifying and she was a control freak. He would let her remain in control, while slowly stealing the reigns of this company away from her.
"The newbie is so impressive, right? Congratulations!" one of his team members teased as they congratulated him.
Jason chuckled, shrugging nonchalantly. "It's not about the title. It's about the impact I can make now. Imagine it… If I do amazing things here, I can create an impact all over the company. And soon enough, we'll all be getting bonuses and better positions."
Jason smirked as he thought about the fact that his response reframed the promotion as an opportunity for leadership and vision, subtly positioning himself as someone with a greater purpose rather than merely basking in personal success.
It was not a good thing for him to seem like one of those self-centred people. He already showed his ambition. But ambition mixed with a terrifying drive for change for others was a wonderful thing that others supported and loved.
Jason's new office was expansive and meticulously designed. He ran a hand along the edge of the polished mahogany desk, appreciating the heft of its presence. It seemed he didn't have a team yet. Well, that was fine. He didn't expect this to happen today, but it was fine. He was very adaptable.
"Not bad," he muttered, settling into the leather chair. Sighing, Jason thought about the fact that 3 weeks ago he was sitting in a seat like this, and yet he was earning a fraction of the money. Turning his head to the windows he couldn't help but sigh again.
Sorry, Veronica, your supermarkets did not have views like this. Jason wanted to see more views like this. Even higher up, in bigger buildings... Maybe from the Jets too. Well, it was time to make things happen. Standing up, Jason began sorting his stuff. Just as he began unpacking his things, a knock at the door interrupted him.
"Come in," Jason called, his voice steady.
The door opened to reveal her. Samantha Ellis, the enigmatic CEO he had seen only a few hours before then, strode in with her usual entourage, an assistant in a pencil skirt and a statuesque secretary who exuded cool professionalism.
Samantha was a vision of power. Her tailored blazer hugged her figure, and her fitted black pants showcased her petite hourglass shape. Her heels clicked against the floor with deliberate precision as she approached.
Jason admired her beauty, but he made sure not to show any effects on his face. When she came he greeted her. "Ms. Samantha. To what do I owe the honour?" His tone was warm yet respectful, his gaze steady. He was a shareholder, and a director now, but he still needed to show some respect.
"I wanted to check in," Samantha replied, her smile softening her sharp features. "See how you're settling in."
Settling in? So she just wanted to see him sweating bricks huh… She wanted to see his reaction at her speed of implementation. Jason was ready to surprise her though.
He gestured around the office. "It's a lot of space. Feels... empty. But I can't complain." He allowed a small smile to play on his lips. "The Director's salary helps cushion the loneliness."
Samantha's laugh was low and throaty, a sound that sent a ripple through the air. "Well, as long as you're comfortable. Just remember, Jason, I expect results. If you deliver, I'll make sure you're taken care of."
Jason's smirk deepened. "Taken care of, huh? Sounds... intriguing."
Her eyes flashed with amusement. "Focus on the work, Jason. After all, we both know just how much you love being taken care of by women."
Jason made a fake look of shock, bringing a smile to her face as she turned her body leaving along with her secretary and assistant, who took a good look at this guy who was able to bring a genuine smile to their boss.
As Samantha turned to leave, Jason couldn't help but watch her retreating figure. Her sway was deliberate, her confidence palpable, and her ass… was proper!
An hour later, Jason was buried in reports when another knock sounded. Before he could respond, the door opened to reveal the receptionist. Her long, wavy hair cascaded over her shoulders, and her fitted blouse did little to hide her figure. She carried a tray with two steaming coffees and a small box of pastries.
"I thought you might need a break," Mia said, her voice light and playful as she placed the tray on his desk.
Jason leaned back, studying her. "A thoughtful gesture. But two coffees? Planning to keep me company?"
She laughed, her cheeks flushing. "Maybe. I did say I wanted to prove to you how I can take a coffee. And then maybe now that you know I don't mind a coffee, you can invite me some other time."
Bold…
Before he could respond, the door opened again. Samantha was back, her expression unreadable as she took in the scene: the tray, the coffees, and Mia's proximity to Jason. What was happening here?
"Am I interrupting?" Samantha asked coolly, her gaze shifting between the two. Jason smirked in interest watching her eyes move between the two of them in interest.
Mia straightened, her composure slipping for a moment. "I was just dropping these off for Jason, Ms Ellis."
Samantha's lips curved into a knowing smirk. "I see. Well, enjoy your break." Her tone was light, but the underlying edge was unmistakable.
As she left, Jason chuckled softly. "That was... interesting."
Mia crossed her arms, leaning against his desk. "She's intense. But she's also so inspiring. Female CEOs always are."
Jason shrugged, a playful glint in his eye. "She's the boss. Intensity comes with the territory. And when it comes to inspiration… it's all about action. So why haven't you taken action in your life?"
After hearing those words, she smiled. "I am not as cold and cool as her. I am warm and soft." She took a bite of her pastry, as she said this, giggling cutely.
Jason smirked, leaning in and cleaning up the side of her mouth. "Well then, I would love to see just how warm and soft you are. "
Minutes later, Samantha sat in her own office, her fingers tapping against the sleek glass of her desk. She had been working the whole time, looking at the latest emails from her work only to realise that James Carter had sent her an email asking her how she had gotten the money to pay off the fees.
She smirked. Sorry James. This is a secret I'm keeping to myself. And you can go fuck yourself from now on. I don't need you anymore.
After typing out a much more cordial message representing those feelings, she sent them over and then took some time to go ahead and move just like that.
All of this was because of Jason. Just as a smile came to her face, it turned into a frown as she remembered that receptionist in his room. Bringing him pastries and coffee. What was she trying to say? I want you to eat my cake.
Psh... she knew exactly what was going on. It was too obvious. That woman had a crush on Jason. It was too obvious now. And she, the CEO had only managed to see that scene because she had left her pen in the room, and didn't want to bother her assistant to go fetch it, since she wanted to have a private conversation with that fucker who was giggling and laughing with the girl.
That annoying guy and that really interesting girl ruined the moment for her. All she wanted to do was to find out what was Jason's motivation. She was just going to tease him a bit. And then there he was teasing the receptionist. Did he not understand that he still had Veronica?
Feeling something nagging at her, she opened a hidden dashboard on her computer, displaying a live feed of various offices in the building.
She'd set up a clever system a while back to keep an eye on her people. This system gave her some "seriously cool" insights. She even used this info to gain power over others, getting them to do what she wanted or, sometimes, even firing them with evidence if the time came for her to do just that.
She took in a coll deep breath as her gaze landed on Jason's office feed. She froze. The feed showed the receptionist perched on Jason's lap, her lips on his as she tangled her fingers in his hair, kissing him with every fibre of her being as Jason grabbed onto her perky butt, squeezing it with the sign of a smirk playing on his lips...
Samantha's jaw tightened. "Unbelievable," she muttered under her breath.
She leaned back, steepling her fingers. Jason was proving to be more complicated—and more intriguing—than she'd anticipated. Now what should she do? Should she keep this hidden and watch them? Or should she… do something even bolder?
