The Main Heroine Falls for the Extra

Chapter 17 - Bad Premonitions Always Come True

Allen Ludwig was advancing through the forest with Emilia Silbright, who had somehow become his teammate.
Their formation had Allen at the front, followed by Allen’s summon, the Light Fairy, and then Emilia and her summon bringing up the rear.
However, for some reason, Emilia Silbright was following from quite a distance.
“Miss Emilia, I don’t think you need to follow from so far away…”
“N-no! I’m comfortable like this!”
Emilia was startled when Allen spoke to her.
She was so surprised that the tail hidden in the shorts under her skirt almost stood up straight.
“Um, Allen?”
“Yes? What is it?”
“Do you… perhaps wear perfume or something?”
Allen blinked at Emilia’s sudden question.
In reality, Allen had never worn perfume in his entire life.
Honestly, perfume was one of those extremely expensive items that only the upper class could afford, and even if his father happened to buy some, it would have been as a gift for his mother.
Allen himself had never even thought about wanting to wear it.
“No, I don’t.”
“R-really?”
As an awkward atmosphere settled between them, Emilia’s wolf summon let out a loud bark.
Snapping back to attention at her summon’s cry, Emilia shouted:
“Allen! There’s a magical beast nearby!”
“Oh no!!”
As if the magical beast had sensed Allen’s group, its presence approached in a straight line, so Allen and Emilia prepared to fight.

“There are more magical beasts as we go deeper inside.”
Riel and I had made our way further into the outdoor training area.
The magical beasts appearing in this area were none other than goblins.
Though not particularly strong, they moved in large groups like a military unit, armed with various weapons, and some even rode tamed Gray Wolves.
“Riel! A few broke off in that direction, be careful!”
“Okay!”
Hearing my warning, Riel calmly began casting a spell.
As if spotting an opportunity, several goblins with crude bows shot arrows at Riel, but her summon Freya swatted away all the arrows with her tail.
That cat really is skilled.
“Woof!!”
Baduk ran toward the goblins that had shot arrows at Riel and tore out their throats, killing them.
Looking back at me while wagging his tail as if to say “How was that?”, I felt somewhat proud.
Yes, our Baduk is skilled too.
I used Wind Cutter to slice and kill several goblins charging with weapons.
With Baduk and Freya supporting Riel, and Riel supporting me, I could focus on dealing with the enemies in front of me.
By the way, this Wind Cutter is really a convenient spell.
It takes little time to cast and has quite threatening power.
The only real drawback might be the ridiculous effort required to learn it.
In the latter part of the original novel, when a villain who mainly used Wind Cutter appeared, the novel repeatedly explained the excellence of Wind Cutter, so I desperately mastered it as I grew up.
Coincidentally, the Wentos family I was born into had magical energy with an affinity for wind magic, and with my efforts added, I somehow managed to acquire it.
I remembered being incredibly excited when I acquired Wind Cutter at a young age.
…Well, looking back now, that period is quite an embarrassing memory.
“Kyo! More coming from the side!”
Riel fired a flame bullet to check them, buying us time, and I slashed the hesitating goblins with my sword.
No matter how convenient Wind Cutter might be, if I overuse it, I’ll run out of magical energy, so I have no choice.
“Baduk!”
“Woof!!”
I spotted one trying to escape and called Baduk.
As if reading my thoughts, my summon immediately chased it down and killed it.
If even a single goblin escapes alive, it will bring back more of its kind.
Of course, if we had the luxury, we’d deliberately let one escape to attract more prey, but we needed to regroup, so we couldn’t let it get away.
“Kyo, I think that last one Baduk caught was the final one.”
“Yes, good job, Riel.”
Hearing my words, Riel made a satisfied expression.
Riel’s potential, having never experienced actual combat before, was higher than I expected.
She didn’t panic at the appearance of magical beasts and responded calmly while accurately assessing their positions.
…I wonder if Allen is scarier to Riel than these magical beasts?
“Let’s collect the magic stones and regroup.”
“Okay.”
These magic stones are used to create various magical tools we use in our daily lives.
Magic stones can be collected in two ways. One is from naturally occurring deposits in the ground, similar to minerals.
Of course, they can’t be collected just anywhere, but these types of magic stones have extremely high purity and are traded at expensive prices.
Finding just one magic stone vein could probably support you for a lifetime.
…Even my own Count Wentos family grew more prominent after discovering a magic stone vein during the northern development.
The second source is the magic stones contained within magical beasts.
These gradually form inside magical beasts as they live with magical energy, but such stones tend to be smaller and of lower purity.
Of course, long-lived magical beasts may possess larger and increasingly pure magic stones, but such beasts are proportionally stronger.
Well, the magic stones from these goblins are only about the size of a fingernail.
“Riel, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, no problem.”
Since goblin magic stones are located near the heart area, collecting them literally required slicing open the goblin’s body to extract the stone.
I was worried it might be difficult for girls, but Riel was quietly handling it well.
Look at her now, cutting open a goblin’s chest with a dagger without any change in expression.

…Wait, looking closely, her lips are trembling a little.
Freya stayed by Riel’s side, while Baduk kept watch around us.
After cleaning up almost all the goblin corpses, we gathered the magic stones and put them in a pouch.
“Kyo, we’ve collected quite a lot.”
“We’re allowed to keep the collected magic stones after the class ends.”
“Really?”
Though goblin magic stones can only be used for something like making flashlight magical tools at best.
Well, we’ve collected a substantial amount, so it should be enough money for a full-course meal at a decent restaurant.
After telling Riel to take a rest, I made a spot using a nearby flat rock for her to sit on.
As I took out something to drink from our baggage, Riel spoke up.
“Come to think of it, what kind of people are in your family, Kyo?”
“My family?”
“Yes, I don’t think I’ve ever heard about them.”
Now that she mentions it, I don’t think I’ve ever talked to Riel about my family.
“My family is ordinary. My father, mother, and two younger siblings below me.”
“You have siblings? A younger brother? Or a younger sister?”
“Both.”
Now that I think about it, I haven’t contacted my siblings at all since coming to the academy.
I’m not sure about my younger brother Asta, but my younger sister Kino must be quite upset.
I might need to prepare myself for when I return home.
“Hmm… I only have an older brother and sister, so I don’t know what it feels like to have younger siblings.”
“In that regard, we might be opposites.”
My younger brother Asta, who always challenged me, determined to surpass me.
As for my younger sister Kino…
…Hmm.
Honestly, in Kino’s case, my fault is really significant…
I can’t shake the anxiety that she might resent me when she grows up and matures.
“Speaking of which, I’ve met your older sister Eve, but what kind of person is your brother?”
“My brother?”
Riel’s brother, Andrew Ignis.
The legitimate heir who will succeed as the next Duke Ignis, but in the original story, there was never much about him.
Only the fact that he worked diligently with his father for the kingdom was mentioned, without even his name appearing.
As this world became reality, I naturally learned his name as the heir to the duke’s family.
“My brother… honestly, I’m not sure.”
“You’re not sure?”
“Yes. I have memories of him being very kind when I was young, but he was extremely busy even then.”
I see.
And after Riel grew up a bit and left home entirely, she rarely had the chance to meet him.
…I really don’t understand why the Duke, Duchess, and even their heir would be away from the mansion for so long.
There were parts I glossed over with “that’s how it was in the original story,” but it seems I need to investigate this aspect as well.
My father would still be busy during this time, so if I were to ask someone, it would be my mother.
“Kyo? What’s wrong?”
“Ah…! Sorry.”
I must have been too deep in thought, as Riel’s call snapped me back to attention.
Riel was staring at me with bright red eyes like a rabbit.
“I was just thinking that the Duke must be a very busy person.”
“…Indeed.”
Riel gave a bitter smile at the mention of her father.
She looked so lonely that I inwardly vowed to uncover the cause quickly.
“Let’s go, Riel. It’ll be dark soon.”
“Okay!”
Deeper into the forest, higher-ranked magical beasts like “Black Wolves” and “Killing Bees” appeared.
Of course, even though they’re higher-ranked, they’re not particularly strong among all magical beasts.
For students of Gransen Academy, these are magical beasts that can be handled as long as they respond calmly.
With summons added to the mix, there’s little risk of serious injury as long as one stays vigilant.
Not to brag, but having experience in subjugating magical beasts, I was more concerned about Riel.
But Riel had already corrected her initially slightly anxious posture and was growing.
This growth rate, truly befitting a main heroine…
We had now returned to the gathering place.
If we didn’t return to the gathering place before the sun completely set, all the points we’d accumulated would be invalidated.
Several students had already returned to the gathering place.
Some were receiving treatment for minor injuries, but it seemed no one was seriously hurt.
Fortunately, this time things seemed to be proceeding without incident, just like in the original story.
In the distance, I could see Allen as well.
True to his skill, he looked clean without a single injury.
On the other hand, Emilia Silbright, who had accompanied him, appeared extremely exhausted.
“Miss Emilia, are you okay?”
“I-I’m fine! Please don’t come too close!!”
Emilia was startled and backed away when Allen approached with concern.
What’s wrong with her?
It was a bit concerning, but thinking it was time to get our collected magic stones evaluated for points, I headed toward the line.
“Ah!”
“Ugh!!”
Turning to the sudden voices, I saw two people.
Aria Owen and Feris Baltreia.
It seemed they had finished their evaluation and were leaving with their score sheets when they spotted us.
The wound from my magic was still visible on Aria’s cheek.
…Shouldn’t getting treatment be a priority over evaluation?
Though they glared at us with openly uncomfortable expressions, perhaps due to what happened earlier, they passed by without confrontation.
And a short while later, as we waited in line for evaluation, Allen’s shouting voice came from behind.
…I had a bad feeling.

“Aria, wouldn’t it be better to get that treated quickly?”
“You’re right…”
Aria was returning to where the class had gathered with her friend Feris, after having their collected magical beast stones evaluated.
Upon returning to the gathering place, she was so exhausted that she hadn’t thought about treating the wound and had gone straight to get evaluated.
…Well, it was just a slight cut, and the pain had already subsided.
Since it was a wound from such a sharp wind blade, it would likely not even leave a scar if treated with healing magic.
If forced to choose, the cut hair might be more serious than the wound on her cheek.
Above all, she felt extremely embarrassed about instinctively casting magic in her anger, then being countered, and finally bursting into tears, intimidated by Kyo’s glaring eyes.
…Honestly, she didn’t want to admit, even if the sky fell down, that she had been scared again when encountering him after the evaluation just now.
“Then… let’s go to the medical team over there.”
“Yes.”
Right, let’s hurry and treat this wound and forget about it.
Honestly, what happened earlier was exactly as Kyo Wentos had said.
Casting magic at someone who had their back turned out of anger was behavior to be ashamed of.
…Though he really is an unlikable man, I should probably apologize to him separately later.
As Aria, having come to this conclusion, was heading to the medical team with Feris:
“Aria, Feris. You’re back too.”
“Ah, Allen.”
Allen approached with his usual handsome face and smile.
He seemed to have already finished his evaluation, as he was holding an evaluation sheet.
“I’m glad nothing happened to you, Allen.”
“Yeah, well. But what about you…”
Allen’s expression froze as he looked at Aria.
“Aria, what happened to your face and hair!?”
“Ah… that…”
Come to think of it, she was on her way to receive treatment.
Allen asked with an angered expression.
“It doesn’t look like an injury from a magical beast. Who did this!?”
“A-Allen. Calm down!”
“This is not something to be calm about!!”
At Allen’s words, Aria and Feris looked at each other with troubled expressions.
