The Lord’s companion

Chapter 6: 6

Xiao Pang transformed into a small little bird that was native in the area, called the bird of stealth. It is a small black bird with a pale grey beak. It's speed is not great but it was good at masking its presence like its name suggests.

The bird slowly but surely caught up to Ye Ran who was walking quite leisurely, his face was devoid of any emotion and there was a cold glint in his eyes. Xiao Pang followed his order from Ruo Chen and observed Ye Ran's every action.

Although he was a guide and that it was not necessary for him to follow the orders and it was actually him who should be ordering Ruo Chen around, he took great joy in enjoying the world like any human would. Xiao Pang would never want to miss the chance to see something interesting.

Xiao Pang only had basic information of the world and doesn't know what will happen in the future. He really only needed to make sure Ruo Chen did his task so he really wanted to know what Ye Ran was up to.

Ye Ran suddenly stopped and Xiao Pang couldn't help but also stop. Ye Ran seemed to sense that someone was watching him and took a few glances around him. Xiao Pang quickly used one of the Stealth bird's traits of making its presence weak.

It was only after a few minutes did Ye Ran continue walking again. The sun high up in the afternoon made all the villagers stay in their homes so no one saw this weird behaviour.

After a few more steps, Ye Ran suddenly stopped again before wordlessly blasting out a huge wave of fire energy in all directions. Xiao Pang was caught off guard before having to use the powers of a guide to magically disappear for a moment. The scorching wave only hit the surrounding trees and a few small animals. The weird thing was that nothing was set ablaze. The wave seemed to be more of like a shock wave used to detect things out of the ordinary.

Ye Ran only scoffed in response before continuing on his way.

Xiao Pang then suddenly appeared out of mid air and heaved a sigh. That was way too close for comfort, if it weren't for his powers given to guides, he would've been dead meat. The reason he didn't use it during the first encounter was that Xiao Pang found it lame if everything was too easy.

He quickly flew through the dense trees and caught sight of Ye Ran again, this time he would be more alert.

The rest of the journey went by safely without mishaps and Xiao Pang saw the worn down wooden house of Ye Ran's. Ye Ran's gait didn't change as he lazily knocked on the door.

"This lowly scum is home." Ye Ran greeted placidly.

The door only opened after a few minutes and a middle aged lady could be seen from the opening. Her appearance is unassuming with the old clothes that are faded and dirty, unkempt hair with a scowl on her face. The only redeeming factor is her clear blue eyes like those of Ye Ran's. However, hers did not have that reddish tint and allure to it.

The scowl on her face only worsened when she saw Ye Ran looking at her with his deadpan face.

"Get in quick!" The lady spat at Ye Ran before roughly pulling at his sleeve.

Ye Ran did not budge and continued to stand there, the air around him now seemed to be several degrees colder. Xiao Pang noticed this changed and couldn't help widen his bead like eyes.

Ruo Chen was right, Ye Ran seemed to different from the past life. Ye Ran of the past would have been pulled right in without any resistance.

"I'm done with these games, mother." Ye Ran said menacingly, his eyes hidden by his bangs.

The lady looked down at her son before muttering some curses and slapping him across the cheek. The slap was filled with hatred and anger, causing Ye Ran to turn his head.

It was now that he looked up, each eye separated into blue red, the colours not mixing.

"You freak! You want to retaliate!?" The lady's eyes where bloodshot, rage was basically coursing through her veins as she gritted her teeth in anger.

Ye Ran didn't say another word before he snapped his fingers. The lady looked around with annoyance but anxiety was slowly starting to sprout in her. She knew how gifted Ye Ran was and she was now slowly starting to come down from her rage.

Smoke then started rising from the house as flames slowly enveloped it.

Xiao Pang watched this from the side lines with amusement in his eyes all while noting down all the events in his mind.

This event did not happen at all during the novel, the story had already began to stray.

Ye Ran's siblings could be seen rushing out of the house in a daze, as if it all didn't seem real to them.

"Mom!" A teenage girl screeched as her hair caught on fire.

"Darling!" The mom rushed forward to grab her out of the house.

But before she could do so, Ye Ran waved his hand at the door and it swung shut with a bang. He then clapped his hands together before chanting something.

"May the flames weld this into an unbreakable wall!"

The door then seemed to become one with the wooden walls as the house turned into a box of flames with no way of escaping, the windows were not spared as they also turned into wooden walls.

"Ye Ran! Release them at once!" The mother ordered with a look of despair on her face. She felt that this couldn't be real, when did he learn all of these spells?!

Ye Ran only looked at her with contempt. With this, all the sibling would be cooked and then reduced to ashes, only the mother and father would be alive. Ye Ran thought of what to do next, he can't take out the whole family today as the dad was away for work and won't be back until night.

He didn't have much time.

Although the house was near the outskirts of the village, the smoke was rising quickly and the villagers will soon notice something off. Ye Ran had to quickly take out the mom now.

Thankfully, the mother saved Ye Ran the trouble of going to her as she lunged at him with an enraged shout. He smiled as he enveloped his in flames to be in a shape of a dragon claw, he stretched out his hand before enlarging the claw. The claw then enveloped the whole of the mother, all while incinerating her to ashes.

Ye Ran then flicked the claw away before dusting his clothes, his face cringed in disgust as the ashes flew into his face. He nimbly jumped far away from the burning.

This could be labelled as a house fire due to an accident if you considered all the factors.

Firstly, Ye Ran was only known by a handful of people as the family wanted to keep him as a secret, fearing the monster he would become and also because of jealousy. They didn't want him to succeed. This worked in Ye Ran's favour as no one would suspect him as they don't know his power, but now there was Ruo Chen. Ye Ran grinned and couldn't help but let out a chuckle.

Secondly, they were know as a poor family that they didn't have enough money to maintain the house properly.

Lastly, fire type animals lived near by and might have accidentally wandered out to cause havoc.

So it was unlikely for Ye Ran to be suspected of killing the family. His dad might say something but who was to believe him? Only a handful knew of his existence, none except for Ruo Chen who knew of his powers. The dad was the only family member left as all the others were burnt to a crisp in the house. The dad would only sound like a lunatic.

Ye Ran then quickly the scene and headed towards the direction of Ruo Chen's wooden shed.

Xiao Pang having seen all this done by a 12 year old kid, whose cheeks were still chubby, only had one thought in mind. That Ye Ran was definitely not like what the information had described him to be. Cute and meek with a good heart was what the information read, but Xiao Pang only saw a cold, ruthless killing machine with an utter lack of care for everything.

He had to make it back to Ruo Chen faster than Ye Ran could. It would be impossible without immediately teleporting back to quickly surmise the event to Ruo Chen. Xiao Pang only mentally cursed himself as he reluctantly used his guide powers again. Its lame and a cheat but how would the mission be finished if Ruo Chen was dead?
