Chapter 15: Ousbury
In the late afternoon of the same day, the trio were able to admire the shadowy silhouette of Ousbury against the sunset lights. The dark red of the sky reflected the depth of the coming night, while the edges of the world turned brown like coagulated blood.
Sete could almost smell the iron in the air. A bad omen, perhaps.
— Let's hurry to get to the city before the sun disappears over the horizon. — She muttered, a little annoyed that Vez kept humming inside her head.
Thomas and Kai nodded in agreement, they still found it hard to believe that Sete was Spring, a deity who had simply fallen into the mortal world to help them. The boys also had doubts about the existence of other gods, even more powerful than the young woman, more dangerous.
However, there was no more plausible explanation than this for everything that was happening. Besides, it was obvious that Sete hadn't told them everything. There were details she wouldn't reveal overnight.

Dilapidated buildings and huge edifices protruded into the violet early evening sky.
The ruins of Ousbury seemed to close in on the trio's heads as they walked through the bumpy, rubble-strewn streets. Sete felt suffocated under so many layers of immovable concrete, devoid of any breath of nature.
To help, a high-pitched chime made the young woman's temples throb. It was a notification from the System:
[Rescue Mission]
You have successfully reached Ousbury
and recovered 3% power.
Embark the E.G.O. convoy and
rescue the imprisoned heirs to
receive the remaining rewards.
As she read Vez's notification, satisfied with the energy that coursed through her body with the additional 3% power, Sete felt a shiver run up the base of her spine to the nape of her neck. Something was watching them.
She immediately grabbed the arms of Thomas and Kai, who looked at her in alarm as they stopped walking. They knew what that kind of reaction meant. Danger.
Sete heard the harsh rustle of scrap metal and dirt in the abandoned buildings on either side of the wide avenue, some nefarious creature moving in the shadows of the dilapidated city. She positioned herself protectively between the boys, prepared for attacks from all directions.
