Chapter 1373: Bastion of the Dead
It was the same with the other spots.
Undead Revenants turned on the Allied Orcs suddenly, catching them off guard.
Due to their forms taking the shape of Orcs, the Undead Revenants successfully—took out a lot of Allied Orcs. Each one of them sneakily blended and struck the nearest Allied Orcs from behind, killing many before the other realized.
It was purely bad luck.
Had the Elves been leading the charge, the Undead Revenants wouldn't be able to blend in.
Cries of war merged with the rough sound of clashing, the Verdantveil Forest, was assaulted again by another battle. The Clarentium Empire's forces pushed forward against the Undead Revenant, eating up ground step by step at the cost of their number.
Slash!
A brawny Orc with two clubs obliterated an Undead Revenant and advanced forward.
But as he was on his third step, he grunted roughly.
He looked down and saw an Undead Revenant touch his shin with its deadly hand.
Its hand was able to sear through the skin with the help of pure death energy.
Defeating an Undead Revenant was already hard enough, it has the physical strength of an Orc—while also having the magical power, of the Undead. As if that was not enough, these Undead Revenants were able to come back from the dead.
Furious, the brawny Orc stomped the Undead Revenant's head, crushing it.
Even then, he saw the pieces of this Undead Revenant moving, assembling back together.
Realizing that these Undead Revenants are basically immortal, the brawny Orc scanned the battlefield, and saw his brethren were busy fighting the Undead Revenants. Elves were also arriving, helping the battle to shift in their favor.
But it would be futile to battle the unkillable Undead Revenants.
"Then the commander must die!"
Roaring overbearingly, the brawny Orc charged ahead, changing his strategy from trying to kill the Undead Revenants to only swatting them away. His bigger size made it easy for him to swat them away as he fixed his destination at the pulsating green energy ahead.
Eating only ten meters, the brawn Orc already swatted more than four Undead Revenants.
As he continued—he began to see the Undead army ahead as well as Gistella and Adhara.
Both of them were not moving from their spots.
All the brawny Orc could see were flashes of green light coming from their direction, and only when he got near enough did he see, what was happening. Guarding the Undead army was a set of small towers with a flaming orb floating above its cone tip.
Each tower spat a barrage of green fireballs that bombarded Gistella and Adhara ruthlessly.
Sentries of the Netherworld, these towers were powerful and relentless.
Since the towers were focused on them, the brawny Orc pulled his arm back and sucked in a deep breath. A forest green energy flowed into his arm before he threw one of his clubs—his aim was the tower on the right.
Swoosh!
Due to how he threw the club, it spun hard like a boomerang.
However, as the club was halfway from hitting the tower—a bone arrow shot it down.
Kaboom!
It exploded upon contact, shattering the enchanted club alongside it.
Seeing first-hand how his favorite club was shattered into pieces—the brawny Orc roared at the top of his lungs. He slammed his other club repeatedly to the ground, a display of wrath, and hostility like a gorilla pounding its chest.
Once he was satisfied, another arrow pierced through the air and struck his chest.
From the force, the left side of his body was pushed back but he kept baring his tusks.
He smashed the club one last time, the impact, echoing like a war drum, before he launched himself forward, each stride reverberating with raw force and weight. More arrows flew with lethality, aiming to stop his charge.
Due to the arrows' speed, the brawny Orc has a fifty-fifty success rate in parrying them.
Some of them were parried while some of them got through and pierced him.
But even then, the arrows failed to stop his charge.
Swoosh!
Making a massive leap—the brawny Orc held the club with both hands and infused it with all the energy he had. He growled, and swung down with power. But in the next second, he was suddenly struck by something that caused him to be thrown back.
He landed on the ground roughly and climbed back to his feet.
As he was about to stand, a sword pierced through his abdomen cleanly.
Slowly lifting his gaze, he saw an Undead, scrawny and slender standing right in front of him.
Its eyes glowed menacingly as it pushed the sword deeper.
As opposed to falling down, the brawny Undead growled and punched the Undead directly in its face. He grabbed the Undead's shoulders with both hands, and pulled it towards a vicious headbutt.
He then shoved the Undead down and began pounding it with multiple hammer fists.
Swoosh!
Just then, a searing heat approached from ahead.
Sensing the temperature change, the brawny Orc lifted its gaze—and witnessed a massive green fireball heading towards him. Stabbed, and battered, anyone would be fearful of this situation but the brawny Orc roared at the fireball fearlessly.
Roar!!
At the same time, a figure landed right in front of him.
Rex's clone arrived at the scene and caught the massive green fireball with his bare hands.
He held back the raging streams of death energy that were rapidly rushing against his body and contained them with red force. As the red force enveloped the energy, the searing heat of the fireball diminished significantly.
Due to the Undead Revenants, he arrived late but he was here now.
Planting his feet deeper into the soil, he pushed the fireball upwards with his raw strength. Experience new stories on empire
Swoosh!
Once the massive fireball reached the forest's canopies, Rex's clone leaped up and kicked it at the right tower. His kick sent the green fireball—hurling back at its source, and before the tower could unleash another one, the green fireball struck it.
Kaboom!
A powerful explosion occurred, destroying the tower with its raging embers.
Upon the right tower shattering, an invisible Undead appeared.
It was an Undead clad in a black outfit made of black leather and steel.
On its hand was a black steel bow with a quiver of bone arrows strapped to its back.
Surprisingly enough—the tower doesn't only shoot fireballs but it was also tied to one sniper Undead—completely untraceable. Rex's clone averted his eyes from the sniper Undead, and squinted his eyes beyond the stack of Undead army.
"That one is strong, it must be the leader of this small army" Rex's clone muttered.
He saw an Undead that was controlling the portals, and the aura coming from that one was a lot higher than the rest. Sensing the hostile gaze—this strong Undead, Zal'karn lifted its head and met Rex's clone's gaze.
It then smirked, its skull face somehow could still curl the corner of its mouth upward.
Now that he had locked into his target, it was time to move.
Rex charged his red force and sprinted ahead, eating up ground as if it were nothing.
Several dozens of meters to his left were Adhara and Gistella, also charging alongside him.
Since the right tower was destroyed, the two could advance further, only needing to believe in their senses to block the other tower, as well as the other invisible sniper. But the Undead also didn't stay idle.
All of them that looked like statues earlier moved forward in an orderly manner.
In addition, they stabbed their weapons into the soil, creating a massive shield.
Outside of the shield were a dozen slender Undeads, ready to confront Rex if he got through.
All of them are protecting that Undead at the very back.
Squinting his eyes, Rex's clone saw floating black marbles coming out of a portal behind it.
Death Order Stones! It's the Undead stealing the stones and that black construct should be the gathering of the stones. With so many Death Order Stones—the Undead's power would surge—I can't let that happen!
A flicker of determination flashed in Rex's eyes as he continued.
Completely surrendering his body to his senses, he parried the bone arrows heading his way.
None of the bone arrows managed to graze him.
Even when the Undead sniper blinked to his behind, it was completely futile.
Having the third eye from the Clairvoyance skill, his behind wasn't his blindspot anymore.
It was evident that the Undead sniper was becoming frustrated and Rex's clone wasn't going to let this opportunity slip, he taunted the Undead sniper—by catching two of its arrows mid-flight and threw them back.
Making a roll, the Undead sniper pulled its bowstring.
Swoosh!
A violent gush of death energy gathered and created a jet-black arrow.
It then cackled, its upper and lower jaw snapping together with a rapid, rhythmic clatter as if it was excited to fire this arrow at Rex's clone. And once the Undead sniper—fired the arrow, the death energy swirled into a spiral of death.
Even then, Rex's clone only needs to siphon the Demon Moon's energy to his claws.
Once his claws glowed blue, he struck the arrow, dispersing it instantly.
Now he was in the clear, he was nearing the Undead army.
But as he was about to pass the destroyed tower and clash with the massive shield, he came to a stop when he heard a shriek—from the side. Sparing a glance at Adhara, and Gistella, he saw them being encircled by some sort of formation glowing on the ground.
Rex's clone was about to scan the formation but stopped and made a sharp inhale.
His eyes widened when he saw the ground underneath him glowed green.
Stopping mid-track, Rex looked around and saw that like Adhara and Gistella—he got himself into a trap. I could buy time until the others arrived but this formation doesn't seem to be one that would kill me, the death energy coming from it is not hostile.
Just as he thought of that, he realized something, "That Undead is almost finished!"
Gritting his teeth, Rex's clone tried to escape the formation but he couldn't.
A sky-high barrier barred him in its dome, trapping him inside.
Rex's clone tried striking the barrier multiple times—even using the Demon Moon's power but couldn't even dent it, "Damn it!" He cursed. "If it's my real body, I could easily break free from this damn trap!"
As he cursed, his eyes were pulled to the side.
Standing right outside of the barrier was the Undead sniper, looking at Rex's clone intently.
It tilted its head in mockery, seeing that Rex's clone was trapped helplessly.
The Undead sniper scoffed—shifting its gaze toward Adhara and Gistella, who had managed to fracture the barrier, with their synchronized attack. Empowered by the Demon Moon, their strength far surpassed that of Rex's clone, making their combined efforts a formidable force.
Once the Undead sniper turned and headed their way, Rex's clone taunted him.
"Are you scared? Are the Undeads all gutless? Why don't you come inside and take me down if you can? Don't turn your back on me—like a coward!" He barked, attempting the petty way to pull the Undead sniper back to him.
Surprisingly enough, the Undead sniper stopped mid-track.
Its entire body was shaking from anger.
Pivoting around, the Undead sniper went to the other side and stepped inside the barrier.
Seeing this, Rex's clone smirked as it idiotically took the bait.
If its arrows could not do anything, to Rex's clone then what chance does it have, in hand-to-hand combat? It was common knowledge that archers weren't—as skilled in close combat so it had to stay at a range.
Rex's clone smirked as this would be an easy win.
But as the Undead sniper goes through the sky-high death energy barrier, it changes.
To Rex's clone's surprise, it suddenly became bigger and at least two feet taller than before.
Not only that, the aura it possessed sky-rocket to the point that it was pressing on him.
"Hold on a minute... the barrier enhanced its strength, that's not fair"
