The Game of a Legendary Genius Dark Mage

Chapter 39

Chapter 39

0.

Dominating an entire hunting ground alone was no easy feat.

Even for a Necromancer, known for their overwhelming numbers, it was a challenge.

However, Seonghyeon’s sheer tactical prowess and overwhelming power, befitting an Almighty-class job, made it possible.

With just around 40 undead, he swept through an entire map.

Seeing it with his own eyes, even Seonghyeon could hardly believe it. He nodded calmly, his expression neutral.

“So, I’m only Level 34 now? Feels a bit slow. Well, it can’t be helped.”

If others heard his thoughts, they’d likely be dumbfounded.

His speed was nothing short of legendary, but from his perspective, it felt sluggish.

Back in the days of PC games, weren’t there games where hitting Level 200 in less than an hour was normal?

Though it wasn’t exactly a fair comparison.

Regardless, leveling up was an unavoidable part of playing an RPG.

Content with his progress, Seonghyeon opened his status window and examined it closely.

【Status Window】
『Seonghyeon』
『Lv 34』
『Job』
→ 『Overlord』
『Titles』
→ 『Sovereign (Legendary)』 …18 more.
『Stats』
→ 《Strength: 53 (48+5)》《Agility: 61 (55+6)》
《Stamina: 48 (43+5)》《Intelligence: 56 (50+6)》
《Wisdom: 61 (55+6)》《Willpower: 133 (120+13)》
《Dexterity: 7 (6+1)》
『Bonus Stat Points』
→ 《45》

“Hmm, my stats are balanced.”

Thanks to absorbing the mercenary group’s memories, his Strength, Agility, and Stamina had increased significantly.

While the stats were balanced, Seonghyeon’s Overlord job was clearly magic-focused.

It made sense to invest in Intelligence and Wisdom.

He allocated 25 points to Intelligence and 20 to Wisdom, raising both stats to 83.

Feeling a pleasant sense of satisfaction, he nodded.

Now that his stats were set—

“I need to pick my next hunting ground…”

Hunting in the field had its limitations.

Even after dominating an entire map, he had only gained four levels.

It was time to consider party hunting.

In dungeons, clearing monsters awarded experience points, and completing the dungeon itself granted bonus experience.

Efficiency-wise, dungeons were far better for leveling up.

The only downside was the risk of running into troublesome players.

“But does it matter?”

So far, he’d dealt with all the problematic players he encountered.

Determined to find a party, Seonghyeon suddenly remembered something: the second vault of Kahkuku in another village.

When he first arrived in Sekan Village, he lacked the strength and level to attempt it. He had planned to go after reaching Level 50.

Now, however, the situation was different.

“I can handle it now.”

With no remaining business in Sekan Village and no clues for more hidden pieces, moving on to the next village seemed like a good idea.

He could look for a party afterward. If necessary, he could even ask the guild for help.

As Seonghyeon mulled over his plans—

[A Guild Message Has Arrived.]

“Hmm?”

The saying about speaking of the devil came to mind.

A message from the guild had arrived.

Curious, Seonghyeon opened it.

“Hmm?”

The contents were unexpected.

1.

In the Rapid Guild’s fortress, known for its natural defenses, key figures were gathering.

Not all of the executives, but notable ones: Lucille, the personnel officer; Chenchen, the channel manager; and several others who could be considered the brains of the guild.

In the conference room, Rapid, the guild master, sat at the head of the table with a serious expression, surveying the attendees.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement, though everyone tried to keep their composure.

They all understood the significance of the opportunity before them.

Only Lucille seemed slightly nervous, though she was clearly just as excited as the others.

After gauging the mood, Rapid finally broke the silence.

“So, the plan is to make him the star of the Rapid Guild’s channel?”

“Yes, Guild Master! This is a golden opportunity!”

“To be honest, our current star, Yuna, is… a bit too stubborn…”

“We also lack general video content to upload.”

“Our channel lags behind other major guilds, to be frank.”

“Yes, even Sick Brothers, ranked 12th, has more subscribers than us.”

The room quickly grew noisy as everyone shared their thoughts.

Their points were valid, but—

“You do realize he’s Yuna’s younger brother, right?”

“……”

“……Ahem.”

“……Cough.”

“Hmm.”

“Uh-huh.”

Rapid’s single remark filled the room with awkward throat-clearing.

No one had anything else to say.

Everyone knew Yuna’s personality well.

She was notoriously unyielding, refusing any filming outside of raids, and was known as the most formidable member of the Rapid Guild.

Not even Rapid herself could sway her.

And it was no secret that Yuna adored her younger brother.

Still, letting this opportunity slip by wasn’t an option.

Rapid understood this as well.

“Since this is an opportunity, we must seize it. I’ll figure out the approach, so start outlining the plan.”

Relieved, everyone nodded with bright smiles, showering Rapid with words of trust as the meeting resumed.

The direction for his image had already been decided.

The theme would be Demon King, or something similar.

Seonghyeon already had that kind of presence, and the player base welcomed it wholeheartedly.

Crafting his image wouldn’t be difficult. They just needed to consult with him on the details.

Once the plans for the content and direction were settled, the next issue came up.

This time, it was Lucille’s turn.

“There were several considerations in deciding which team to assign User Seonghyeon to.”

Everyone nodded.

Despite being a top-ranking guild, Rapid had a relatively small number of members. Its Rookie Teams numbered only three.

Teams were organized based on raid participation, with groups ranging from 6 to 20 members.

Rapid kept their numbers to the minimum, with each rookie team comprising six members.

One team even had just four members.

Even combining all three rookie teams wouldn’t reach 20 people.

Yet, despite their small numbers, their efficiency was unmatched.

True to their reputation as the Fastest Guild, they completed raids at record speed.

Now, the question was which rookie team Seonghyeon would join.

“We’ve decided to assign him to the Luna Team.”

“Ahhh.”

“Ahh?”

“Huh?”

“What…?”

The murmurs of concern in the conference room grew louder, each voice tinged with unease.

This wasn’t mere curiosity; the tension was palpable.

After all, the Luna Team was the strongest among the rookie teams, albeit the smallest, consisting of only four members.

And yet, doubts lingered—was this truly the right choice?

Even Rapid, the guild master, shared their reservations.

“…Luna Team, huh.”

“At this point, they seem like the best fit,” Lucille said cautiously.

“I’ve already instructed all rookies to halt leveling for now, just in case… but Luna Team…”

Was the team problematic?

Not at all.

In fact, it was exceptional, even outstanding.

However—

“Ahem, they’re… brimming with individuality, to say the least,” someone commented.

“Well, at least their leader, Luna, is decent…”

“But will Yuna stay quiet about this?”

“She might complain that we put him in the ‘problem team’…”

Despite the flurry of anxious remarks, Rapid eventually nodded in agreement.

“I understand. On second thought, Luna Team might indeed be the best match for Seonghyeon.”

Given the team’s colorful personalities, it was natural for such concerns to arise.

Still, it was a necessary decision.

Placing someone with Seonghyeon’s potential in anything less than the strongest rookie team felt like a waste.

With the decision finalized, Rapid sifted through several documents and spoke.

“Once Seonghyeon reaches Level 50 and completes his second job advancement, we’ll send Luna Team to tackle the Level 60 raid. No one has cleared it yet, correct?”

“That’s correct. None of our rookie teams have attempted it either.”

“Other guilds are analyzing it, but it seems unlikely to be cleared within the next two months.”

“It’s a notoriously difficult raid for the Level 60 range.”

Hearing this, Rapid smiled in satisfaction.

“It’s settled, then. Once Seonghyeon completes his second advancement, we’ll reconvene. And don’t worry about Yuna—I have someone in mind to handle that.”

With a knowing grin, Rapid—Ahn Yujin—thought of Seonghyeon.

She knew all too well that if Seonghyeon accepted, even Yuna wouldn’t protest.

With Seonghyeon’s team assignment finalized, Ahn Yujin wasted no time contacting him.

The message included his team assignment, a request to frequently record videos for promotional purposes, and a personal plea to keep Yoo Mina in check.

2.

When Seonghyeon clicked on the guild message icon, he saw the following:

『Dear Guild Member Seonghyeon,』

『You have been assigned to the Rapid Guild’s Rookie Team 1, Luna Team.』

『Team activities will commence once you reach Level 50 and complete your second job advancement. Your first team activity will be a raid.』

『Additionally, internal discussions have identified that your video content has significant potential. We kindly ask you to continue recording videos.』

『As compensation, you will receive 30% of the revenue generated from your videos. Further details will be included in an additional contract.』

『We look forward to your continued success.』

P.S. – If Mina causes any trouble, please deal with her yourself.

Naturally, Seonghyeon frowned at the message.

The team assignment itself didn’t bother him—he had anticipated collaboration when he joined the guild.

But the plea to handle his sister?

It wasn’t Yujin’s request that irked him; rather, it made him wonder.

“If Yujin noona’s asking me like this, just how fearsome is Mina in the guild?”

Seonghyeon knew Yujin’s personality well—she was someone who strictly separated personal matters from work.

Even the formal tone of her message reflected that professionalism.

For her to make such a personal request, Mina must truly be causing havoc in the guild.

“So, my sister’s a bit of a menace, huh?”

Shrugging it off, Seonghyeon focused on the part about his team.

He wasn’t particularly introverted or hesitant when it came to socializing, so being part of a team wasn’t an issue.

What concerned him was how the team would react to him.

There could be resentment or a sense of entitlement—perhaps some pushback against his seemingly “nepotistic” placement in the guild.

Even if he had proven his skills, being the sibling of prominent guild members could still cause friction.

Still, he wasn’t too worried.

To him, this was just another workplace.

“As long as I do my job, it’ll be fine.”

Satisfied, Seonghyeon set the matter aside for now.

Leveling up remained his immediate priority.

As for keeping Mina in check? That was the easiest part of the message.

A single scolding would have her backing down, given how she always caved to him.

What truly caught his attention was the part about recording videos.

“So, I need to keep sending videos, huh?”

Last time, he had sent a hunting video.

It might be better to try something different this time.

And he already had something interesting in mind: Kahkuku’s second vault.

Even as a relatively new player, Seonghyeon knew that nothing drew views like hidden pieces.

He himself would eagerly click on such a video.

“There’s no way a hidden piece video wouldn’t do well.”

With a perfect topic and video idea in mind, Seonghyeon didn’t hesitate.

He immediately sought out a portal to move to his next destination: Orin Village, where Kahkuku’s second vault awaited.

Since villages on the same tier were connected, moving from Sekan Village to Orin Village was straightforward.

Upon arriving in Orin Village, Seonghyeon prepared to head directly to the vault’s location.

That was until he overheard a group of ghostly old men conversing nearby.

“Hey, did you hear? Outsiders are entering Roks’ Tomb!”

“What? The infamous Roks the Warlock’s tomb!?”

“That’s right! Can you believe it?”

Intrigued, Seonghyeon paused to listen more closely.

“With all the traps hidden there, how could they dare enter such a place?”

“Apparently, the village chief’s son, Tyler, convinced them to do it.”

“Tyler’s always been greedy since he was a kid!”

“No kidding! He tricked those naive outsiders by promising treasure, but all they’ll find are things that only dark wizards would want. If only we could warn them.”

Noticing Seonghyeon listening intently, the ghosts’ gazes locked onto his. Their eyes widened in shock.

It wasn’t every day they encountered someone who could see and hear them.

“W-wait, is he listening to us?”

“Huh!? Impossible!”

Seonghyeon, sensing an opportunity, approached with a polite smile.

“Could you tell me more about what you were discussing?”

From the look of it, he had stumbled upon yet another hidden piece—and a potential idea for his next video.
