Chapter 3: The Last Act Of A Soul Remnant [2]
Within an incense of time, Kay found himself in the enormous cave. Before him stood a sculpture of a man. His physique described a man who has cultivated his body to the pinnacle of perfection. His arms were corded with lean muscles. Just looking at him left Kay doubting his own body.
"Hello young man" a deep profound voice echoed in Kay's ears. Two unfathomable eyes bore deep into his soul with a mere glance. He felt violated, bared to the bone with those eyes. " I...who....who are you?" Kay stammered with a timid voice.
He knew that the person in front of him was not an ordinary person. He was mysterious and beyond his mere comprehension. How can a man like this exist. Just his presence sent a feeling of ancientness, oldness beyond time itself. Like someone who was torn from the fabric of the universe, and created.
Kay couldn't help but feel ashamed of his existance. What was he compared to this existance. True, there are beasts and monsters with strength and powers to annihilate kingdoms and empires deep down in this forest, but compared to this existance in front of him, they were nothing. Definitely frogs in a well. This was .. this wasn't allowed to exist at all! This was impossible to comprehend.
" You are an interesting fellow, where do you come from?" Kay was brought back from his stupor. " I think it will be only fair if I answer your question first. My name is Rune Sachem from the Imperial Dragon Dynasty, former Chief General Commander of Her Highness and Empress's elite force, Knight of the First Order, Cassandra Bright" stated the remnant as if he was giving a weather report.
" And who are you young man?" Kay balled his hands into fists and puffed his chest. "My name is Kay Paisley, son of Admond Paisley and Elizabeth Brooklyn." He uttered with his best performance of mimicking Rune. Rune silently smiled at the young man's failed attempt at mimicking him.
Even though Kay had not explained where he originally came from, Rune didn't press him. He had seen through him the moment he had stood before him. During his lifetime experience, he had come across a lot of strange things and learned a lot of what to and what not to expect. His mind had long adapted to accommodate the most bizarre of things when he was still alive. And that soul being in a body that was on the fringe of death was no exception.
What excited him the most was that this body and soul were both compatible, meaning there won't be an leakage of essence when he cultivates, and that Kay had not started any cultivation techniques. If he had, that would have been very regrettable.
" Okay son of Almond, I have a job for you, what says you?" Rune couldn't help but approve Kay's quick adaptability. When he first got him in aboard, he had seen him nervous and all tensed like a cornered rabbit. But now, he looked comfortable, more curious, studying his surroundings.
" Did you say a knight? Like in the folktales?" He thought he had misheard. He had not registered what Rune had said until now. Knights were were figures of myth and legend, existing only in stories and Ballards as far as Kay was concerned.
No one in the village had seen a knight as far as Kay knew. And here was someone casually stating being a knight. Of the First order for that matter.
Rune had seen with his soul power that the most formidable person within his soul coverage was not even on par with a general knight of his time. What more of ranked juniors? These descendants of the forgone eras were weak and pitiable. He kept all this to himself. He knew he was running of time. Already, a few thousand years ago, he had began forgetting some things.
" Yes. So would you accept my task?" Answered and asked Rune at the same time. " If I accept, will you train me to be as strong as you?"
" You are in no position to bargain young man" Rune chuckled at the absurdity of this Kid's thoughts. How can he, a knight of revered status bargain with someone as weak as him. When he was alive, emperors and empresses knelt at his feet in reverence.
Well , except that brat of a child , stubborn as a mule. Thought Rune with yearning. He dearly missed Cassandra. She was the only one among the four empires who refused to salute him. Even called him by his name, and later on made him, the strongest person to ever walk that land, serve her as her own bodyguard.
He shook his head. He needed this kid to accept, no matter how much low he must stoop. It's not like he wasn't going to teach him the ways of the knight, but the fact that he was being forced to bargain with this kid rubbed him wrong!
" Yes, I will teach you till I cease to exist, you will become of this world though". Kay contemplated this in his head and finally nodded his head in agreement . The moment he agreed, Kay felt an insurmountable force binding him to the ground. There was no escaping now. He felt that he had finally become a native of this world, a vernite.
All hopes of returning back to earth varnished. He had nothing to return to anywhere. He had been in an orphanage as long as he could remember.
And this Vernite world was much more appealing compared to earth. Even though much more dangerous, at least he had loving parents.
"Follow me" with that, the remnant turned, waved its hand at the solid wall in front of it and a door appeared. Kay saw a lot of weird scribbles all over the door. What gibberish is that? He thought to himself.
Rune walked into the wall and disappeared.
Kay looked on in bewilderment. He had just seen someone walking straight into the wall. Am I hallucinating? There's only one way to find out. Here goes me! With that, he walked to the wall where Rune had disappeared. Paused. And then...he took a step into the unknown.
