Chapter 18 - Red-Eyed Mad Dog
* * *
“How old are you?”
As the broadcast started, the screen showed Yu Jin-ri sitting alone on a mattress.
“I’m 20 years old…”
“20? Do you go to college?”
“No… I graduated high school early at 15 and entered university. I’ve already graduated from college.”
“Oh? You were very smart. It seems like you would have been talent Carpe Diem would covet, why didn’t you get a job?”
“I’m very interested in mana research, but Carpe Diem has no interest in mana research at all. So I wanted to research mana independently by myself.”
“Aha~ So you borrowed some money? How much did you borrow?”
“At first, I didn’t plan to borrow much… but as I kept borrowing, it became 500 million won, and with interest, they say I need to pay back 1.2 billion won.”
“Did you need that much money?”
“Yes… Because Toshin eliminated all data about mana, I had to start from zero.”
“Wow, so you have to pay back 1.2 billion. Well, you’ll have to work hard, right?”
“Yes, yes…”
“Then, Yu Jin-ri-ssi, from now on, you have no complaints no matter what happens, right? We’re doing this all by mutual agreement, right? You’ve agreed, correct?”
“That’s right…”
Although, it’s illegal sexual exploitation.
It’s evidence that Banana Man is creating in case of controversy, to claim there’s no problem because we did it by mutual agreement.
They’ve never actually used it, but it’s a procedure they do habitually, thinking they might use it someday.
“Then shall we start?”
And just as the hands of men in their underwear were about to reach for Yu Jin-ri,
Bang!
The iron door of the basement opened roughly.
The men’s gazes moved from Yu Jin-ri to the iron door, and Yu Jin-ri naturally looked at the door too.
There stood a well-built man.
His eyes were dyed red, and the murderous aura felt from his atmosphere suggested he wasn’t someone who came with a friendly attitude.
“Who are you?”
One of the men asked. Simultaneously with that question, something was thrown.
What was thrown was a man. The man, who had a surprised expression with his body stiffened, didn’t move.
“Isn’t that Mitsu?”
The thrown man was Mitsu, the guard who was guarding the basement door. As befitting a guard protecting the most important place, he was the best fighter in Banana Man.
“He, he’s dead…”
But he was dead. One of the men checked Mitsu’s pulse and recoiled in shock.
“Mitsu is dead!”
At the words that Mitsu was dead, the men started to murmur. And for good reason, as he was the strongest among them, and now he was dead.
Above all, he had a radio. If there was an intruder and he fought with them, he would have reported the crisis situation via radio.
No, even before reaching Mitsu.
There should have been at least one radio transmission from the members upstairs, normally.
But there wasn’t. Mitsu’s expression showed clear signs of bewilderment, as if he had no idea he was going to die.
And, the man who threw Mitsu’s corpse said.
“Weak.”
Weak.
The men felt confused at the words that Mitsu was weak. Of course, if they had faced a member of the top 3 organizations, they couldn’t refute being called weak.
But this man wasn’t that, was he?
He didn’t have the snake badge symbolizing Carpe Diem,
Nor the S earring symbolizing Esper Hunter,
And he wasn’t wearing the martial arts uniform symbolizing Murim Alliance either.
“Wh-who are you! What did the guys upstairs do!”
The president of Phone Cash, flustered as the situation turned strange, shouted loudly.
Did he take this as a question? The man pointed upwards with his index finger and said.
“Ah, the guys upstairs? I killed them all. They were weak.”
“What…?”
“I’ve fought with low-ranking members of Murim Alliance, and faced Carpe Diem too, you know? Compared to those guys, you’re too weak. Pathetically so.”
“Y-you, who are you to say such things!”
At that question, the man put his hand in his inner pocket and took out a promissory note to show.
“Who am I? I’m someone who came to collect the money I lent.”
The word Fantasia written on the promissory note.
And the F-shaped badge on the man’s chest.
Only then did a quick-witted member shout loudly.
“F-Fantasia?! Why the fuck is that ruined organization coming here?!”
It was chaos.
Fantasia is clearly a ruined organization, with no combat personnel. That’s why Phone Cash could act dismissively even after borrowing money from them in their early days of establishment.
But doesn’t the man in front of them look too dangerous? The fact that Mitsu was taken down was proof enough of that.
If there was someone in Fantasia dangerous enough to kill Mitsu, they wouldn’t have borrowed money in the first place, and they would have paid back immediately when that easy-going boss came to collect.
But there was no such man in Fantasia originally. That’s why it was chaos.
And amidst that chaos, a woman’s voice rang out to calm the members.
“Don’t be agitated, everyone. It’s just Fantasia we’re dealing with. Don’t fall for their bluff.”
“A bluff, you say?”
“Yes. How could this guy alone kill all those members when he’s not from Murim Alliance, Carpe Diem, or Esper Hunter? It’s a bluff. Just bravado.”
Forina, the boss of Banana Man, laughed shortly while her eyes shone sharply.
“Those guys never share their power with others. They monopolize it. And without such power, everyone else is just ordinary. No matter how good at fighting, it’s impossible for one person to kill all our members alone.”
“B-but Mitsu is dead, isn’t he?”
“Look at that expression. He clearly died without even knowing he was going to die, right? I don’t know what method was used, but he was killed by surprise. The reason we didn’t receive any radio transmission is because he came in so stealthily that no one noticed.”
Forina asked the man while shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly.
“Am I wrong?”
At those words, the man put the promissory note back in his inner pocket and sneered.
“Seeing you speak nonsense so confidently just makes me laugh.”
“Ha! You’re going to keep up the bravado till the end, huh? You think I haven’t seen guys like you before?”
Forina, finding it amusing too, put her hand in her inner pocket while sneering.
“All those guys tucked their tails between their legs when they saw this. They cried and begged for their lives.”
What Forina took out was a gun.
Until now, Forina had never fought with huge organizations like the top 3. But she had often clashed with small organizations, and many of them often caused trouble with just a fish knife, not even having money to buy guns.
Then the men would talk nonsense about fists or whatever, but tremble when they saw the gun. This man would be the same. He’ll kneel and beg for his life when he sees the gun.
Imagining that situation made Forina laugh. Is there anything more enjoyable than subduing an arrogant opponent?
But the moment Forina took out the gun and aimed, the man was gone. As if he knew she would take out a gun, the man was rushing towards the men in their underwear.
‘F-fast!’
It’s not easy to aim because he’s too fast. But Forina wasn’t worried.
Why? Because approaching the members itself is a foolish act. It’s impossible to face all those men alone.
Someone will eventually catch the man, and if she shoots in that opening, she wins. It’s not difficult.
That’s what she thought, but
Thud!
With just one punch from the man, the member who was hit collapsed lifelessly. His body stiffened as if his brain was damaged.
Then he stops moving. He’s dead.
“Wh-whaaaaa!”
Overwhelming fear.
The members were terrified seeing their comrade die from one punch. It was the moment they realized their opponent wasn’t an ordinary human.
But by the time they realized, it was already too late. It didn’t even take 5 seconds for all those men to collapse on the floor.
“I told you, didn’t I? You’re weak.”
“Y-you, you fucking bastard!”
They were subordinates she had spent enjoyable times with. When those subordinates died in an instant, Forina lost her reason and kept pulling the trigger.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
But even that, the man seemed to predict as he lifted up one corpse to shield himself. Forina’s bullets, fired without reason, only hit the innocent corpse.
Click, click…
Then, as if the bullets were all used up, the gun made a pitiful sound. Forina tried to insert a new magazine while trembling, but
“Too slow.”
The speed at which an unskilled person changes magazines was slower than the speed at which the man was running.
Crunch…
“Kyaaaa!”
The hand holding the gun was grabbed and crushed. An sound that shouldn’t be heard from a hand was heard as it was shattered along with the gun.
To have grip strength strong enough to crush a hand along with a gun. Only then did Forina realize she had thought wrong and burst into tears.
“W-why are you doing this to us…? If you just came to ask for the money back, we would have paid…”
“A bitch who even pulled out a gun sure talks well. Then if our boss came without me, would you have paid back the same way?”
“O-of course! It was just that whenever Fantasia came to collect, we coincidentally didn’t have money. It’s true, I tell you! If you had just come nicely today, we would have paid back. We only took out the gun for self-defense.”
“Hmm…”
The man seemed to be pondering.
This might work out well?
If only she and the president survive, they can rebuild everything. They can fill up the members again if they just spend money, right?
The story seems to be working to some extent, so if she continues to persuade well─
“Eight.”
“Pardon?”
“The number of corpses you’re trying to dispose of. They were all women.”
The conversation is taking a strange turn.
“I don’t know when these corpses appeared, but they’re not too decomposed. They probably died relatively recently. How much did you earn from broadcasts where you charge 100,000 won per person?”
“H-how did you…!”
“And since you make money every time you open a broadcast, it’s not just a one-time thing. You must have milked them until the women reached their physical limits and died.”
And that’s not all?
“You’d sell the recorded videos again for money to those who couldn’t watch the live broadcast or those who want to keep them. It doesn’t seem like such a bizarre illegal business could have established itself overnight?”
The man asked with a dry smile.
“Are you still going to lie that you had no money?”
“Ah, ah…”
There’s nowhere left to retreat.
What should I do? What should I do?
Forina, not knowing what to do, blurted out whatever came to mind.
“B-but if you kill me, you won’t get your money back! You’ll never get that 50 million won!”
“Why? The president of Phone Cash is over there separately.”
“D-do you think that president will give you money? He’ll never give it!”
“Then I’ll just kill the president too.”
“If you kill the president too, how will you get the money? Aren’t you really crazy?!”
Turning his eyes away from Forina who was screaming uglily, the man looked at Yu Jin-ri and said.
“A genius scholar who graduated high school early at 15 and showed enough passion to even go into debt to research mana. If we can bring such a scholar into the current Fantasia, wouldn’t that be worth more than 50 million won?”
─So it doesn’t particularly matter if we don’t get the 50 million won back.
“Ah, th-that, Fantasia, that fucking legendary organization that should disappear into history.”
You’re trying to revive, aren’t you?
Crack!
That was the last thought Forina could have.
