The Extra of The Lunerra

Chapter 63: Two Monsters Next to Each Other

'Aiden, almost the whole manor is coming here.'

I sighed deeply as the voice of Sith echoed in my mind.

Of course they were coming.

They were even a little late to come here, actually...

'I want to focus on the flames, can you take over the protection?'

'Sure.'

I turned toward Alysia and Adrian after the answer. They were both looking at each other, with slightly... strange expressions.

They were both calm, their expressions were not surprised or anything. And that's what was really strange. Considering that they were half-siblings and they had just found out.

Though... Alysia had probably known for a while.

"You can have your sibling talk later. For now... we're going to stay here until reinforcements arrive, which won't be very long."

They both turned toward me at the same time. Adrian just nodded. Alysia, meanwhile, didn't even react much.

"As I said at the beginning, stay close to me and Adrian so we can protect you."

I took a deep breath, and then... I did something I don't usually do.

I had two ascension skills, which was actually a quite rare case, but the one I usually used was Spiritual Ascension.

I trusted myself and Sith more with the winds, so it was more comfortable to use it.

So, until now, I had only used Phoenix's Ascension when I wanted to unleash explosive power. In short, when I needed to use both skills at the same time.

And since using two ascension skills at the same time creates a huge backlash, it usually didn't last that long.

But, this time, I used only that, I didn't even think about Spiritual Ascension.

As usual, my flames grew many times stronger as my hair grew longer and my vision sharpened. Golden runes stretched across my skin, blue feathers of mana began to form and fall gently around me.

I raised my hand first, pointed it at the door of the office, and... simply flung my mana forward.

Flames shot out of my palm, like the eruption of a volcano, toward the door, filling the corridor behind the office... and drowning out the screams that would otherwise have erupted.

I turned around and pointed to the hatch we had used to get in here.

Adrian quickly approached that part of the wall, too. Mana swirled around him, and he used his spear style to attack the wall in such a way that the whole manor shook.

It wasn't enough though, just a simple... crack in the wall.

But Adrian didn't stop.

He attacked again, and again... and again.

With each attack, the cracks widened, the shape of the wall twisted, almost collapsing in on itself.

And after his final attack... it literally collapsed, almost exploding.

~boom!

Adrian looked at me as the fragments rolled down the dark staircase hiding behind it, making a rather echoing sound.

I placed another palm next to the one I was pointing at the office door.

"Now…"

Before heading for the stairs... I spent most of my mana in one go to keep my promise.

Caora and the blue flames spread explosively, both of them mingling together.

They spread around the office and down the corridor in an unstoppable, uncontrollable conflagration.

As long as I continued to use my mana and caora, they would slowly consume the entire manor, fulfilling Alysia's wish.

And so... lowering my palms, I finally turned my back to where we were going to escape.

"We're leaving."

*******

It was a strange feeling, to see this kind of chaos happening... in this manor where I spent my childhood.

I was walking down slowly through a 'back door' I didn't even know existed, Adrian in front of me and Aiden behind me.

Behind us was mostly covered in blue colored flames, in front of us... empty. It was quite dark, so it was hard to see anything.

But, eventually, we reached the end of the stairs. And where we came out... was a long and wide corridor that looked quite huge, with no end in sight.

The only difference... it was not as empty as the stairs.

There were elves inside, facing exactly in our direction.

Each of them had weapons in their hands, some had spells prepared.

But Aiden and Adrian weren't scared in any way, they didn't even pay much attention to the sight in front of them.

Adrian was the first to act. He used the Laute Family's signature technique, mana manipulation, to make himself much stronger and faster while changing the environment to slow down his opponents.

Aiden supported him from behind, using his flames and winds.

No matter how hard the elves tried... it had no effect.

Adrian and Aiden slaughtered them one by one. Almost... effortlessly.

And as I looked at the scene unfolding before me... again and again, I found myself in the grip of disbelief.

Weren't they both C or C+?

How... and why were they so powerful?

There was no way for someone who didn't know the truth to say that the general level of these two was C or C+.

Both of them... could move as easily and were stronger then they should be as if they were B or B+ grade.

I squinted slightly, remembering Adrian's attack during the Wiathen mess.

That attack... could threaten even an A grade person.

At this point... was it really a logical choice to measure their power level by their general level?

I looked again at the scene in front of me.

Adrian had pierced the skull of an elf, probably as strong as a B grade human, with his spear, then hurled his lifeless body at another who was about to attack him, causing him to fly at Aiden.

Before the man knew what had happened, he was engulfed in flames and burned to death.

Someone else showered Aiden with arrows. Each of her arrows contained a lot of mana, each one seemed to be quite powerful...

But that was it.

Half of the arrows melted in the extreme heat before they reached him. Those which managed to reach him, meanwhile, were blown left and right as if there was a wind current around Aiden that prevented him from being targeted.

The archer's end came when, unable to escape because of the Mana Barrier that had formed around him, she was engulfed in flames as if in a furnace.

And... in the midst of these two monsters, I moved forward safely.

It was a really... strange feeling. It was like they were fighting these people for me, even though that was not the case... for the most part, at least.

So... we came to the end of this wide, long corridor with the massacre created by Aiden and Adrian.

We climbed the stairs leading upward... and reached another hatch.

Like the last time, Adrian opened it with his spear, smashing it to pieces.

And... the fresh air hit us in the face, accompanied by the darkness of the night.

Once we were fully outside... I found what I expected.

We were completely surrounded.

There were tens, almost a hundred of elves around us... all of them with hostile eyes.

They knew we were heading this way. And that's why they had ambushed us here, logically.

So far, so good. Adrian and Aiden were too strong.

But... could they take down this many elves, when there were some really, really strong ones among them?

I don't think so...

Even for monsters like them, they were too many.

Maybe they could have killed a large number of them... but that was it.

Yet neither Aiden nor Adrian showed any sign of despair. They both... simply stood back to back with me between them.

"How much more mana do you have?"

Aiden was the first to speak.

"I didn't even reach the halfway. How about you?"

"Same here. I may need to turn off my ascension skill in just a minute or so, though."

"One minute, huh..."

Adrian curled his lips upward as he gripped his spear tightly.

"That's more than enough, isn't it?"

Aiden didn't smile, though he answered as his expression turned serious and his eyes narrowed.

"It is."

Following his words, his mana, and the ominous-feeling purple energy around him... suddenly became more violent and intense than ever.

But at the same time, a new color appeared around Adrian, blue. A soothing, comforting blue... but also a powerful one.

All the elves around us attacked us at the same time.

But Aiden and Adrian... didn't care.

As Aiden's ominous purple and Adrian's comforting blue almost blended into each other, Adrian used his ascension skill, the one that looked exactly the same as my grandfather's... but about which I still knew nothing.

The mana in the atmosphere suddenly became heavy, all the elves around us... suddenly stiffened as if all their powers had been drained.

No, they weren't drained.

It was just... Adrian had stopped the flow of mana for all of them, or blocked it somehow, if only for a short time.

Not just the unclaimed mana in the atmosphere... He could even control the mana in other people's bodies to a certain extent.

And with that... all of their enemies, who had rushed at them with tremendous speed, were all slowed down rather abruptly.

Adrian simply spun his spear, covered in that soothing blue, around, just as he had done in that street in Wiathen...

Aiden, meanwhile, combined the mana and ominous purple that had gathered in his hands, raised them, and struck the ground with concentrated energy.

Their attacks merged in harmony, striking all the elves that surrounded us... and knocking some of them back with great force, while others were cut in half.

The resulting shockwave stripped the leaves from the trees, lifted the top layer of the soil, and created a dense cloud of dust. The winds and breezes, unable to respond to the force, calmed down as silence fell over the area.

And in the midst of it all were two people who had not yet turned twenty.

One with a smirk on his face that made him look like he was having fun, the other with absolute calm and coldness...

They both waited quietly as the cloud of dust lifted.

But what they saw at the end... pleased neither of them.

They had killed or defeated most of the elves surrounding them with that move, yes.

But now... there were even more of them.

Their numbers had increased instead of decreasing.

"This is really not going to be easy, as you said..."

Yet Adrian could only widen his smile.

A tiny drop of blood trickled from his nose, he couldn't go on much longer... and yet he didn't care.

But Aiden... must have been thinking differently, for he simply sighed.

His hair returned to its original length as the golden runes that had enveloped his skin receded. Not only did his ascension skill seem to deactivate, but the ominous energy around him disappeared as well...

After that, he simply drew his cane from his ring and supported himself with it.

He looked as if he had given up...

"It won't have to be easy anymore. At least for us..."

Adrian looked at him for a brief moment as if he couldn't believe his eyes, thinking that he had really given up, maybe...

But then he paused, momentarily frozen in place... and then his lips curled upwards again.

Then...

"Ah, hahahah!"

He laughed.

The elves who were about to attack didn't understand why he laughed, nor did I.

But he ignored it. He deactivated everything he was using, just like Aiden, then simply let himself fall to the ground.

The next second, just as the elves were about to attack, seeing no point in waiting any longer despite their confusion... the air around us suddenly turned cold.

Dozens of figures emerged from the darkness in the forest, lunging at the elves that surrounded us.

As the field turned literally into chaos... the very air in front of our eyes suddenly cracked, literally.

The crack widened, revealing a space-like void behind it... and someone emerged from it.

His black hair rippled while the portal behind him was closing. His bright green eyes were not directed at Adrian or me.

He was simply... looking at Aiden.

"I hope... you can explain yourself properly, Aiden."

Aiden, though, just shrugged his shoulders.

"You could have asked for something more difficult, Prince Lucas. It's... pretty easy to explain myself, after all."
