Chapter 127: First Battle against the Demon Cult (2)
Dante and Damien.
The Twin Brutes of the Demon Cult and the Apostle from the gospel of Vengeance.
Their origins and the tragedy behind their betrayal of humanity in favour of the Demons were heartbreaking. Born as conjoined twins, the brothers faced rejection from society from an early age. Their arrival was seen as an omen of misfortune, and from the moment they made their presence known, the world shunned them.
Their mother died due to the complications of birthing conjoined twins, leaving their father heartbroken and in despair. He cursed the twins for taking away the only light in his life and abandoned them to die in the freezing night. It was only due to the goodwill of the wet nurse who delivered them that they lived to survive another day.
However, after a few years, even the kindness of the woman who took them in had disappeared. Seeing what an enormous burden it was to care for two medically deficient conjoined twins, the wet nurse and her family threw them away like a discarded rock without a single care about their well-being in mind.
Left to survive independently, they were forced to navigate the harsh and merciless reality of a world that hated weakness and irregularities. Children mocked them, while adults took advantage of them. Work eluded them, as no one dared to give them jobs, fearing that bad luck would befall them. And the rare times they did land odd jobs, they were met with stones, insults, and prayers muttered under their breaths.
They were miscreants and outcasts. No one cared if they lived or died, and even when they were barely teens, they were already seen as potential threats that could disjoin the harmony of their small society.
One day, when a flood devastated the farmland they worked on, half of their crops were ruined, causing a winter famine. Hundreds perished, not just by the floods but by the famine that pursued. Grieving families wailed endlessly while the religious cried out foul play.
Without an outlet to blame, the villagers all pinned the blame on the conjoined twins, blaming Dante and Damien for the natural disaster. They suggested that just by harbouring their existence, they had triggered God's wrath, and they were punished for their insolence.
Because of that, the persecution that the twins experienced was beyond anything imaginable. They were ridiculed and mocked, sometimes even physically abused to the point where they were left to die. But as fate would see it, their salvation came not by the divine intervention of God or by the mercy of their human counterparts but by the Demon Cult.
Seeing their potential, the Prophet personally aided them and saved them from their eternal hell.
By bestowing his blessing upon them and elevating them to Apostles, the twins were reborn. Once conjoined outcasts who endured daily beatings and relentless cruelty at the hands of humans, they were reforged—remade into Demonic Humans, no longer victims but beings of terrifying, corrupted power.
They were separated from their shackles and were given new bodies.
Thanks to the Prophet's blessing, the twins transcended the limits of ordinary Demonic Humans, surpassing their fellow Apostles in their transformation. Their bodies twisted and shifted, their skin darkening with unnatural hues, displaying signs of demonification beyond what any human could endure. At that point, it was no exaggeration to call them more Demon than human.

Super strength, hyper-regeneration, heightened senses… If they were to fit a game archetype, they would be absolute soldiers that could tank multiple hits and continuously deal damage through sheer brute force alone.
Preaching the Gospel of Vengeance, the twins were empowered by their hatred of humanity. They would never stop until their vengeance and hatred were sated.
So even when mortally wounded… they would keep getting up to fight another day.
That was why the Twin Brutes were so feared in [Bright], and that's the force that Amon was facing now.
"How annoying…"
Amon spat out a curse while pulling back Nyx from Damien's body. The golden solar flames lingered in the cave, pushing back the demonic mana and presence that the Apostle was emitting. He landed a clean 'Dawn' for sure, and the aftereffects of the Lich's lair proved that. But, that wasn't enough to wipe the floor with one of the Demon Cult's Apostles.
In fact, it did the opposite.
"How dare you… HOW DARE YOU HIT ME!!!"
Damien roared while unleashing a torrent of demonic energy. The putrid aura created a thick, billowing smoke of hatred and anger, which stunned and intimidated the weaker members of the raid. Vekka, the weakest of the bunch, had already blacked out and was writing at the mouth. As for the rest, they could resist the Apostle's wrath but had to use Horus's protective barrier to stay sane.
Only Leon and Yue didn't require any assistance as they watched over Amon's battle.
And fortunately, those two were the only ones Amon needed.
"Leon, I need your help."
While Amon was busy facing the twins, Yue walked over to the future hero with a request. No, in this battle stage, it was more of an order. Not that the young Knight was complaining.
"What do you need?"
"The Twin Brutes are a special existence in the Demon Cult. They can regenerate every wound they receive, no matter what they are hit with. Even if we cut their heads off, they will regenerate them instantly. So we will lose if we fight them in a battle of attrition."
"What monsters."
Leon complained from the bottom of his heart, and Yue concurred with his assessment.
"But they do have a weakness," Yue reiterated, boosting confidence that they weren't fighting a losing battle. "Since they are mostly Demon, Holy Power works tremendously well on them. And it so happens that we have the Holy Blade on our side."
Yue fought against the Twin Brutes in her previous timeline multiple times and was well aware of their weaknesses. And as powerful as Amon was, the Gospel of Vengeance was a good counter to his overwhelming talents. So long as their will for revenge persists, the Twin Brutes will always return with more demonic energy than ever before.
"... understood. I will cut my way through them."
A whirlwind of thoughts raced through Leon's mind, but no matter what, his resolve remained firm—he would help Amon through this ordeal. Ascalon was the ultimate weapon against the Demon Cult, and he knew it all too well. Leon steadied himself with the Holy Blade blazing in radiant golden flames, ready to leap into the fray.
"Ellahan, you are needed too. Use your power to restrain the Twin Brutes wherever possible. As the Saintess, you're the only one we can count on."
"Okay!"
The sixteen-year-old girl responded with unwavering brilliance without a hint of hesitation. As the Saintess of the Holy Church, she had long accepted her duty to fight alongside Leon against the forces of darkness. There was no room for fear—not if she wished to stand beside the one she loved on the battlefield. Clutching her rosary, Ellahan whispered a solemn prayer, summoning a radiant surge of Holy Power that illuminated the air around her.
Amon, Yue, Leon, and Ellahan.
These four were the core of Eldorin and the ones who would lead the rebellion against the Demon Cult and its unstoppable forces. No one could have anticipated that a piece of history would be written now.
But not that they had the luxury to care.
Amon brandished Nyx with violent intensity, allowing his sword to whistle across the air and dance like a weightless ballerina. The first thing he did was draw flesh from the recovering Damien. Nyx's black blade moved effortlessly in the dark cave, giving Damien poor visibility of when it would strike his body.
Hence, Amon could effortlessly collect Damien's right arm without much resistance, even though he was wreathed with thick Demonic mana. That deed brought forth another explosion of rage as the Demonic Human roared:
"HOW DARE YOU, YOU MONGREL!!!"
Damien's right arm regenerated rapidly, and he grabbed hold of his thick club once more. Heavy pressure landed on Amon's shoulders as he turned his neck and caught sight of a vicious, descending quarterstaff. Amon kicked his feet and somersaulted away from the attack, and it phased through his afterimage, breaking the ground from whence he stood.
"You're fast…"
Dante remarked as he recovered his quarterstaff from the shattered floor. At the same time, Damien rushed forward with his club, charging with a torrent of demonic energy that would suffocate the average Knight.
"DIE!!!"
In a rage, Damien showed his incapability to control his temperament. What little semblance of martial arts had vanished from his core footwork, and he was just moving like a deranged elephant.
Alas, an elephant didn't have to care about finesse or dexterity. With enough raw power, even fearsome lions would be trampled by its feet.
And that was what Damien relied on. He was never trained in martial arts, and neither did he bother to. While it would somewhat enhance his combat prowess, as a being made of pure demonic energy, he didn't need to do so. Just brute force was enough to kill any foe who dared stand in his path.
Unfortunately, Amon wasn't just going to let the elephant run rampant.
With a single swing of his blade, he pierced Nyx onto the ground and allowed all six Suns to condense upon themselves. A brilliant explosion of golden light erupted from his body, surging outward in a spiralling inferno. While the blast looked menacing, its invocation had a calculated movement.
The flaming spiral forged a burning citadel of eternal light, manifesting a towering wall of pure Sunfire. The ground beneath Amon's feet turned into scared embers, creating an impregnable bastion of celestial flames that withstood the full force of Damien's charge.
For the first time in his Apostle life, Damien's assault was stopped. That fact stunned him, but more importantly, it wounded his pride. Roaring with rage, he continued his siege, attempting to break down Amon's created barrier. But unfortunately, Amon wasn't going to budge.
Solaris Mystic Arts: Sunfire Bulwark Fortress.
The most potent defensive arts in the Solaris House's arsenal.
Empowered by Yval's blessing, the Sunfire Bulwark Fortress had reached a new level of sturdiness, and hardly any demonic energy could pass through. Even if Damien used up all of his energy, he couldn't break through Amon's defences.
And speaking of Yval's blessing, Amon had another trick up his sleeve.
'Sacred Ground.'
White-gold embers flickered around Amon's feet, eventually spreading to a large area beneath the Twin Brutes. Confused by the sudden ability, Dante and Damien paused momentarily. But they soon realised that it was a mistake. Amon's eyes had turned into venomous, reptilian slits as the golden Aura that enveloped his body intensified.
Rather than looking like a knight who had mastered aura, he looked like a holy angel bathed in it. A radiant halo seemingly formed around Amon's crown while he dispersed the Sunfire Bulwark Fortress in favour of a more direct approach.
The white-gold embers radiated the overwhelming might of the Golden Dragon Sovereign, a power so absolute that all beings on the planet were compelled to bow before it. The Demonic Twins were no exception. As Yval's divine energy surged through Amon's body, their enhanced forms experienced something they had long forgotten—fear.
After their ascension to Apostles, they were meant to be perfect beings—overwhelming existences that humans would never again bully.
And yet, they were cowering backwards as Amon's blade swung down at them.
"Die."
Amon repeated Damien's words back at them as the white-golden embers exploded into a full inferno. Enveloping them in a fireball that would burn them through purgatory. The Twin Brutes roared in agony as their bodies failed to regenerate faster than the flames could burn them. As for the spectators, they remained deathly silent.
Agva couldn't believe his eyes. The Twin Brutes were meant to be Apostles, the highest existence in the Demon Cult after the Prophet himself. And yet, they were being played with as if they were schoolchildren. At that moment, he second-guessed himself and his strength as he desperately plotted his escape.
As for Amon's comrades, they hardly could believe what they saw either. Horus couldn't understand how a boy, who wasn't even twenty, could show such a dominant display of power. Johann was without words as he realised that Yue's future husband was just as much of a monster as she was, if not more so.
As for the rest who were his age, they all shared the same sentiment. The Hero, the Saintess and the talented Knight-Magician…
Were they needed here?
