Chapter 445: Chapter 444: If I can't finish my studies, will you support me? (1)
In addition, Jun had shared information about this spice with several spice research institutes around the world. These institutes were highly intrigued and even commissioned her to buy a batch from Sui at a high price.
Naturally, Sui refused. The spice produced by Butterspiece was limited, and he barely had enough for himself, let alone enough to sell to others.
Moreover, the Butterspice had a lifespan of about two years.
To put things in perspective, the lifespan of an ordinary butterfly was only a few months, with the longest being one year. Two years was actually quite long.
This was one of the reasons Butterspiece was relatively cheap.
In comparison, Sui thought highly of the Pokémon. They were very human-like, with long lifespans, easily living for decades. Their production rate was high too. Their only downside was the price—tens of millions, making them unaffordable.
Since there were no classes in the afternoon, Sui headed to Utaha's apartment and decided to spend some time there.
Utaha was seated at her desk, diligently reviewing her homework.
Sui, without hesitation, laid down on her bed, enjoying the soft fragrance of her bedding. He picked up a light novel and began to read, completely at ease.
Utaha glanced at him with her wine-red eyes, clicked her tongue, and teased, "Kouhai-kun, you're really shameless. You walk into a girl's room and lie on her bed without hesitation. Tsk tsk."
Sui looked up from his book, speechless. He was just lying on the bed and reading, yet her words made it sound inappropriate.
"But senpai, do you really need to review your lessons?"
He asked, slightly puzzled. If he recalled correctly, this senpai was the most talented student at Toyogasaki Academy. She would often doze off in class, yet had never lost her position as the top student. Truly a genius.
"Because I'm about to graduate," Utaha replied, flipping through her textbook. The sound of the pages turning was soft and rhythmic, her slender fingers moving gracefully. Her profile was serene and beautiful.
Just looking at her, you would never imagine the dark thoughts she harbored beneath her calm demeanor.
"Are you thinking about how a girl who looks so quiet and pretty could be so vicious on the inside?"
She spoke calmly, her voice breaking Sui's train of thought.
Sui was once again speechless. Was she reading his mind? Truly, she had the intelligence to match her talents.
"Senpai, are you really about to graduate?"
He asked in surprise. "I didn't realize you were already in your third year. You're two years ahead of me."
"That's right. So, I'm the older sister, Kouhai-kun."
She gave him a quick glance, a smug look glinting in her wine-red eyes.
Sui rolled his eyes. After a moment, he asked, "senpai, which university are you planning to apply to?"
"Todai University," she replied nonchalantly.
"University of Tokyo (Todai), a prestigious institution… You really are a genius."
Sui couldn't help but compliment her. It was, after all, one of the most renowned universities in the world.
"Senpai, you're aiming for the literature department, right?"
He asked, with a hint of certainty.
"Huh? How did you know?"
Utaha's eyes widened slightly in surprise.
"Hehe, isn't there a saying that all famous light novel writers are dropouts from the Faculty of Literature at Todai University?"
Sui joked, though there was some truth in his words. Many well-known Japanese light novelists had indeed dropped out of Todai's literature department.
Utaha shot him an annoyed look. "Kouhai-kun, are you implying I won't finish my studies? Are you saying that if I fail, you'll support me?"
"Sure, I'll support you," Sui replied, laughing. "I think I can manage."
Utaha's cheeks flushed slightly as she cast him a reproachful look.
A quick glance at the clock caught her attention.
"It's almost time," she remarked, standing up.
"Are you heading out?" Sui asked, still lounging on her bed without any intention of leaving.
Seeing him so comfortable, Utaha clenched her teeth in frustration. "Yes, I've got a tutoring job. But tell me, Kouhai-kun, do you plan on staying in my bed forever?"
"Well, your quilt smells really nice, and it's very comfy," Sui replied with a nod before noticing her uneasy expression. "But have you been short of money recently?"
Utaha hesitated for a moment but then admitted, "Yes, I'm saving up for university tuition. The tutoring job I found pays several times more than normal tutoring gigs."
In Japan, young adults were expected to be independent. After entering university, it was common for students to work part-time to cover tuition and living expenses, even if they came from wealthy families. Graduating high school meant entering adulthood, and staying with one's parents was often seen as a failure to mature.
Although Utaha made a decent amount of money from her light novel "Love Metronome," Todai University was an elite private institution with notoriously high tuition fees. Many students there were from wealthy families. And with rent and living expenses on top of that...
Her family wasn't particularly well-off, and given her pride, she would never ask them for help.
"senpai, you really work hard."
Sui adjusted his position on her bed and commended her effort.
Utaha gritted her teeth, clearly frustrated, and pinched his leg. "Why won't you get up?"
"Ah, I'm feeling sleepy," Sui replied lazily, closing the book and placing it over his face. "Go ahead, senpai. I'll lock up when I leave."
Utaha's eyes twinkled with amusement. "By the way, Kouhai-kun, are you free this afternoon? Why don't you come with me?"
Sui shot her a skeptical look. "Is this for your tutoring job?"
Utaha sighed, rubbing her temples. "Those students are such a headache."
