The Cruel Boss Won't Let Me Go

He stared at the number trying to decide if he should pick up or not. Under normal circumstances he would never ignore Alexi's call but he didn't want to be exposed in front of Merri.

They weren't far from Merri's apartment complex so he sped up the car. Merri glanced over at him and noticed he had a strange expression. "If you need to take the call, you can let me off here."

 "It wasn't important."

 When he pulled into the parking lot of the apartment complex, he got out of the car to walk her to the entrance. Merri thought his expensive car was too eye-catching and didn't want the neighbors to gossip. "You don't need to walk me to the door."

 He looked around at the rundown neighborhood, "I won't feel comfortable leaving until you are inside."

 Merri smiled, "Although the area is a bit rundown, it is safe. Mostly people who work at the factory down the road or are elderly."

 Nikolai furrowed his brow, if he could he would suggest her moving into one of the properties he owns. But now is not the time. " I want to talk to you anyway."

 Merri wrinkled her nose and inwardly chuckled, we just drove across town and you didn't say a word.

 She looked up at him with an expectant gleam in her eyes, "What about?"

 As they walked towards the building he told her, "I will be busy tonight but if you want to come tomorrow to practice I am free."

 "Okay. Thank you." 

 When they reached the door he pulled the handle, "You have no security?" He assumed she would need to swipe a card to enter.

 "No. The landlord is too cheap and no one complains because they don't want the rent to be raised."

 She saw his worried expression and smiled, "My brother and I have lived here for a while and there haven't been any problems."

 "I will walk you to your apartment."

 Merri quickly replied, "NO!"

 She realized from his expression she overreacted and gazed up at him apologeticaly. She giggled, "Well…you are too handsome, the neighbors will gossip."  And if my little brother is home I will have some explaining to do.

Merri quickly said goodbye and ran up the stairs. Oh My God! he is soooo perfect!

 Nikolai watched her leave and had a faint smile, the little angel is very cute. After she was out of sight he turned and walked out of the building.

 As he took long strides to the car he called Alexi, "Sorry, I missed your call."

Alexi sounded annoyed, "What the fuck were you doing?"

 "I ate some bad sushi and was in the bathroom."

 Alexi flicked the lighter in his hand."I told you not to eat that crap."

" Why did you call?"

 "Sydney told me there was a fire at the construction site. How much damage and who was behind it?"

 "I planned on calling you when I got to the office when I read the report form Sammy. I don't know the extent of the damage, The Rimbaldi brothers were behind it. I have taken care of the situation for now, I can discuss in further detail when I get more information."

 Alexi took a cigarette from a pack on his desk, "What about the little piano player? Have you been keeping an eye on her?"

 "Yeah." Fuck! I was hoping he would forget about the little girl.

 "Good. Make sure there are no men circling around the little thing."

 "Will do." I plan on doing that but for selfish reasons.

"Slower than expected, CEO Watson's insufferable daughter has become a real thorn in my side. I think she is why the bastard is dragging the negotiations. Cleo Watson is a spoiled bitch and the old man does whatever she wants, so it hinges on her approval."

He snickered, " The vain woman is doing her best to make herself part of the deal. I am going to try and persuade the horny slut tonight to convince her father to sign. I am taking her to the premiere of her latest movie tonight, it should prove to be a boring ordeal."

 "She is a beautiful woman."

 "After fucking the sweet little piano player, I am even more disgusted by insolent women like Cleo Watson."

He inhaled the smoke from the cigarette then blew a smoke ring. " I will just have to endure until I get back to the city. I want to wrap this up quickly, I can't wait to fuck the little thing to death. I have been thinking about her delicious body and unique taste.  Nikolai's's face darkened and his pitch black eyes were filled with a murderous gleam. It was the first time he wanted to kick the shit out of Alexi and take something from him. 

 He had to choke back the words he wanted to say because he was powerless against Alexi. I need to get stronger and be on an even level with him. In the meantime I must find a way to keep the little angel safe. 

 The door to Alexi's suite opened and he frowned. "Keep me posted on the situation with the Rimbaldi brothers and watch the girl."

 Nikolai opened the door and got into the car. He angrily slammed his hand on the steering wheel. Goddamn that selfish motherf**ker, he can have any woman he wants why destroy an innocent girl!

 Merri had a bright smile on her face as she walked up the stairs while thinking about the handsome man's worried expression.

Her brother was locking the door to their apartment when he saw Merri. "Sis, were you out drinking with Claire again?"

 She snapped out of her daze, "Huh? Oh..No.. after my lesson I went over to her apartment. We watched movies and since it was storming I just stayed over." 

 Merri looked at her watch, "Why are you leaving for school so early?"

 "There are tryouts this morning for the basketball team."

 "I thought you said you weren't going to play this year and concentrate on school."

 "I decided I can do both. The coach said I could qualify for a sports scholarship."

 "Really? That's great!"

 "Yeah, he thinks I could get a full ride to his alma mater."

 "What University?"

 Myles eyes flicker and he nervously clutches his backpack "I gotta go or I will miss the bus. Talk to you later."

 Merri watched him fly down the stairs and wondered why he looked nervous. He was the star of the team the past three years, trying out should be just a formality.

 Myles ran down the sidewalk to a black car. A man was leaning on the hood while smoking a cigarette. When he saw him he started laughing, "Kid, why do you look like a ghost is chasing you?"

 Breathing heavily, Myles bent over and put his hands on his knees. After he caught his breath he walked over, "Give me one."

 The stylishly dressed man reached into his pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, "What is going on?"

 "I don't like lying to my sister."

 "You should be good at it by now."

 Myles lit the cigarette, "Yeah, but this is different. If she knew my plans she would definitely freak out."

 "You are a fucking genius. Going to high school is wasting your time and talent. Working with me you will have plenty of money...isn't that what you want?"

 "I'm glad you are so confident."

 "Get in the car, I want to take you somewhere."
