The creepy Night.

Chapter 12: The Last Betrayal.

Chapter 12

Subey stood frozen, staring at John's lifeless body. Blood seeped into the cracks of the cold pavement beneath him, staining the night with an eerie finality. The gun in Mia's hand trembled slightly before she lowered it, her expression unreadable.

Caroline knelt beside John, tears blurring her vision as she cradled his face. "No… no, this isn't real…" she whispered. Her fingers traced the contours of his jaw, his lips still slightly parted as if he had one last thing to say. But he was gone. The man she had loved—who had held her, whispered promises in the dark—had betrayed her. And yet, she still wanted him back.

Subey swallowed hard. "Why, Mia?" His voice was barely above a whisper.

Mia turned to him, her eyes dark with something between grief and cold satisfaction. "Because he was never on your side, Subey. He used you, played you. And when the time came, he would have destroyed you."

"But he was mine," Caroline murmured, her body shaking with quiet sobs. "He was mine, Mia."

Mia sighed, stepping closer. "No, Caroline. He belonged to himself. And to whoever paid him the most."

Caroline's fingers curled into John's jacket. The warmth had already begun to leave his body. The betrayal cut deeper than any wound ever could.

Subey clenched his fists. "You could have let me handle it. You didn't have to kill him."

Mia's lips twisted into something that wasn't quite a smile. "Didn't I?" She turned away, gun slipping into the folds of her coat. "You're still too soft, Subey. You still think people can be saved."

Silence stretched between them. Then Caroline rose, her face pale and streaked with tears. "I want answers." Her voice was hollow. "All of them."

Mia met her gaze. "Then come with me."

She started walking, disappearing into the shadows. After a long pause, Caroline followed.

Subey hesitated. He looked down at John—Arjun—one last time before turning away. The man he once called a friend was gone. And in his place, a storm was brewing.

Whatever Mia was hiding, whatever secrets still lingered—Subey knew one thing.

This wasn't over.
