Chapter 184: Team Rocket’s Second-in-Command! [184]
Luo Yuan activated his psychic abilities, linking his mind with Deoxys's, observing the Psychic Tornado from both perspectives simultaneously.
Compared to a single Pokémon's Psychic Tornado, whose weakness was often tied to the individual using it, this vortex—created by the collective power of thousands of Unown—was far more formidable, even surpassing the tornado Mewtwo could summon.
Through the high-speed rotation, the Unown's typically weaker psychic energy had been condensed and strengthened, rendering previous tactics ineffective.
The massive psychic vortex acted like a vacuum, drawing in anything around it.
However, since Luo Yuan had already recalled Dragonair into its Poké Ball, only Deoxys's clones were being affected, while Luo Yuan, Deoxys, and the hefty Dragonite remained unaffected.
To an average trainer, a Psychic Tornado formed by so many Unown would be nearly insurmountable.
But was Luo Yuan an average trainer?
This vortex, while troublesome, was nothing Deoxys couldn't handle.
Although the tornado trapped Deoxys's clones, it couldn't ensnare Deoxys itself.
Given enough time, the Unown would exhaust their energy, leaving Luo Yuan victorious. But that wasn't the kind of victory he was interested in.
Observing through Deoxys's powerful psychic perception, Luo Yuan had already formulated a plan to handle the Unown.
"Deoxys, ramp up the clone production and keep feeding them into the tornado," he instructed.
Though Deoxys didn't fully understand the purpose, it followed the order without hesitation.
Luo Yuan's plan was straightforward: if the Unown's psychic tornado acted like a vacuum, then it had a limit to how much it could absorb.
Once that limit was exceeded, the vortex would grow increasingly unstable...
As Deoxys steadily fed more clones into the tornado, the psychic vortex began to bloat, expanding by nearly a third.
Through the translucent outer layer of the vortex, Luo Yuan could make out Deoxys's clones inside, linking arms in a dense cluster.
The tornado's spin gradually slowed, becoming jerky and uneven.
And still, Deoxys continued to pour in clones, forcing the Unown's vortex to its breaking point.
Finally, the Unown sensed something was wrong.
In a state of rising panic, they tried to stop the vortex.
But by now, the situation was beyond their control.
"Zzzz!"
Listening through the power of Viridian, Luo Yuan could hear the Unown's frantic pleas: "Stop! It's too full! Don't put any more in!"
He remained unfazed, urging Deoxys to press on.
There was no stopping now; the brake lines were cut, the doors welded shut, and the accelerator floored. No one was getting off this ride.
Finally…
BOOM!
With an explosive roar, the overloaded psychic tornado burst apart.
Both Deoxys's clones and the Unown were flung outward by the massive shockwave.
From the power of the blast, Luo Yuan estimated that at least half of the Unown had been knocked out.
"Well, they brought this on themselves," he muttered, directing Deoxys to finish off the remaining Unown.
By now, Deoxys had amassed a considerable number of clones.
Since they were under Deoxys's complete control, they remained unaffected by the tornado's blast and quickly spread out to take down the scattered, stunned Unown.
As some Unown tried to regroup, searching for each other in the chaos, they realized their numbers had dwindled to a fraction of what they once were.
Desperate, they attempted to retreat back into the ruins.
But Dragonite, still sporting a scuffed-up look from earlier, had anticipated this. It blocked the temple entrance with its massive belly, leaving the Unown trapped.
In the end, Deoxys took down the last of the fleeing Unown.
Looking over the unconscious swarm of Unown littering the ground, Luo Yuan let out a relieved sigh.
"Those Unown were more of a hassle than I expected."
After instructing Dragonite to guard the incapacitated Unown, Luo Yuan and Deoxys ventured back into the ruins.
The temple, stripped of its Unown defenders, revealed no further traps, likely because its creators had deemed the Unown sufficient protection.
In truth, Unown were a strong choice for security—if the intruder wasn't someone like Luo Yuan, equipped with Deoxys's overwhelming power.
Reaching the innermost chamber, Luo Yuan was greeted by a grand mural painted across the walls.
A quick glance told him everything he needed to know.
"A... llama comic?"
The artwork depicted an abstract figure of Arceus, the mythical god of creation from the Sinnoh region, saving the world from a falling meteor.
"What's a temple dedicated to Arceus doing all the way out here in Kanto?"
Still, Luo Yuan shrugged it off. Perhaps ancient people from Sinnoh had migrated here, bringing their beliefs along. There was no point overthinking it.
At the center of the room stood an altar, and on it lay the source of the intense Dragon-type energy.
An odd, reddish tablet was lodged within a device on the altar.
"The Dragon Plate of Arceus."
Luo Yuan immediately recognized the tablet, no bigger than his palm.
After scanning the surrounding area with his psychic abilities to ensure there were no lingering dangers, he stepped forward and removed the tablet from its holder.
The moment he did, the Dragon-type energy that had filled the temple abruptly dissipated.
"So, this device was channeling the power of the Dragon Plate?"
Luo Yuan examined the mechanism.
The ancient civilization that built this device was quite clever, essentially using the Dragon Plate like a power source—though they might have paid the price for it if Arceus ever discovered their sacrilege.
"But what exactly was all this energy for? Could it have been to sustain the giant Dragonite?"
As Luo Yuan pondered, a compartment in the device suddenly opened, revealing a box connected by a series of cables.
"What's this…?"
Inside the box was what looked like a nearly fossilized Pokémon egg.
Curious, Luo Yuan activated his Viridian power, placing his hand on the egg to sense what lay within.
"Hmm…? It's still alive."
A faint pulse of life stirred from within the egg.
