Chapter 143 - 140: Not a Girlfriend, but a Fiancee!

Chapter 143: Chapter 140: Not a Girlfriend, but a Fiancee!

Lu’s father was stunned when he heard this, and he looked at his wife in surprise, “What, what’s going on? Doesn’t our son have no partner?”

Lu’s mother’s face was slightly awkward, but she still quickly smiled and said, “You have little contact with our son. Just yesterday, his girlfriend wasn’t feeling well, and in the middle of the night, he even called me.”

Truth be told, she was also bewildered.

Last night, when her son asked what to do because his girlfriend was having stomach pains due to her period, she was truly stunned.

However, before she could ask too much, he had hung up the phone.

What puzzled her was who his girlfriend really was.

At this, the Qin’s parents’ faces grew complicated.

Behind her mother, Qin Yuyan stood with her hands clutching a purse, standing upright; upon hearing this, a ripple seemed to pass through her eyes.

After a moment of astonishment, Qin’s mother smiled elegantly and said,

“So Lu Xiao has a girlfriend now. She must be very outstanding, considering the Lu family is a distinguished family.”

Lu’s father gestured with his hand, “It doesn’t matter; as long as he likes her, his rather dull personality finding someone at all is good enough.”

“Oh, look at what you are saying! Lu Xiao graduated from the best military university in the country. His looks, height, and qualities are all top-notch. In my opinion, your son’s girlfriend must be extremely outstanding; otherwise, how could she match Lu Xiao? She must be much better than our Yuyan!”

After saying this with a laugh, Qin’s mother paused before slowly adding,

“It’s just, I wonder, with Lu Xiao doing such dangerous and hard work in Qinghai, what kind of person he could possibly meet…”

Upon this statement, the atmosphere in the air suddenly became a bit delicate.

Qin mother’s words were indeed skillful.

It seemed as though she was placing Lu Xiao’s girlfriend above everyone else, incomparable in praise, but the twist she added at the end suddenly led the imagination astray.

Indeed.

Lu Xiao was working in such a godforsaken place, and no one knew his background, the work being dangerous and tough. Who would be interested in him?

Everyone could hear the underlying meaning in those words.

The smile on the gentle face of Lu’s mother stiffened a bit.

When they all were in Beijing in the early years, she disliked this woman from the Qin family, who was particularly fond of comparing, had strong vanity and competitive spirit, and never stopped boasting about her daughter’s excellence and the numerous awards she had won.

What, did she think her obtuse and couldn’t hear the underlying message that her son’s girlfriend couldn’t compare to her daughter?

After brewing a cup of tea, Lu’s mother finally eased herself up with her back straight and smiled, saying,

“Qin’s mother is right. Although I have not yet met my future daughter-in-law, I believe that the girlfriend my son has chosen must be the most outstanding. His taste has always been very picky; ordinary ones simply won’t catch his eye.”

At this, Qin’s mother: “…”

Lu’s father then cushioned his back with a pillow, coughed, and with a faint smile on his lips, added,

“Yes, my wife is right. However, we believe character is the most important thing in a future daughter-in-law; the rest doesn’t really matter.”

Upon hearing this, Qin’s mother’s eyes flickered slightly, and she smiled again, “Old Lu, you haven’t even met her yet. Isn’t it too soon to call her your daughter-in-law?”

However, just as these words were spoken, a clear, cold voice fell sharply at the doorway:

“It’s not too soon. My fiancé is almost here.”

During the conversation, a tall and upright figure appeared at the doorway of the ward.

Stern, handsome, maintaining a calm and composed air, yet powerful.
